There's nothing wrong with getting high end equipment, good shielded cables etc. but any of these multi-thousand dollar reciever/amplifiers are going to have top-of-the-line power filtering built right in.

Agree - “audiophiles” are some of the most emotionally driven, gullible people in existence. While some of the stuff they do does actually provide a measurable difference, most of it you can’t actually hear.
At a certain point it’s just dick-waving and conspicuous consumption.

This was a joke that got out of hand and anyone who believes that Sony would put a world-class DAC in a console has sniffed too much glue and probably listens to their CDs on it using the 'hall' digital effect.

only if its the OG playstation with the RCA outs. But even then, it's nothing special. People claim it has a great DAC when really what they mean is it had a decent opamp.

However this doesn't keep people from spending ridiculous amounts of money on modifying them:

Man, watching Grandparents deteriorate is depressing. My wife's Grandma moved in with us/in laws a year ago, after her husband died of a Stroke. She was a little forgetful then but has gotten worse over the year, but in the last two weeks she has gone downhill big time. Her house was sold not long after she moved in but has recently said to her niece, how we were all living with her and she didn't know where all her things were. Shes waiting for us to move out so she can find all her things. Then yesterday she asked whose house it was, whether it was my wife's house or my MIL's. She sits in her chair all day (even sleeps there) and doesn't move, and now has horrific Edema in her legs and cellulitis. She tells the doctor she only using her walking stick when she leaves the house which shes only done to go to the doctor since shes been here. Its heartbreaking to watch my Mother in Law have to be her nurse because she refuses to shower or see the doctor when she needs to. Mum's brother is just burying his head in the sand. She needs to go into a Home, but I don't think Mum has the strength to make her. It makes my wife so angry to watch all this and I don't know how to support her.

Sorry for the e/n wall of text but you guys are a good sounding board.

You shared it with a dick.

I just did some design work for a boutique audiophile grade amp builder. He also sells hand built cables and cable "burn in" generators. A little box for $300 that puts white and pink noise through the cable to break it in. Customers rave about the sound using undefinable adjectives like warmth and presence. "Airy" seems to be their favorite new trendy description of sound, most of the reviews use it.

He said most of his customers are doctors and lawyers. He does build good amps but he doesn't believe his own hype. He knows most of these guys are plugging it in to $.12 per foot romex tangled behind drywall.

That's dementia for you. My Grandma lived to 104 with dementia from before her 80s. My Grandpa died (I believe) of a broken heart after a particularly unfair argument. It's weird that the thing I remember is her spine slowly folding up on itself. Also I had said my goodbyes litteral decades before she died. I still bawled at the funeral.

I get what your saying about your wife, though. Sometimes all you can be is a sympathetic ear, a soft chest to cry on or a hard shoulder to lean on.

In short, the CD will sound like a remastered version. The effects are permanent. The Intelligent Chip delivers a specific number of treatments, 10 for the GSIC-10 and 30 for the GSIC-30. If one attempts to treat a CD that's already been upgraded, the Intelligent Chip recognizes the CD has been upgraded and won't use up a treatment unnecessarily.

I've been unemployed for 37 hours from the worst Canadian Tire in Canada. I haven't really started an earnest job search beyond doing what I've been doing for the last few months (shotgunning applications all over Indeed).

Checked my email and one of the jobs I applied for today has netted me an interview. I've also got a message on Indeed from an employer for a job I didn't even apply for. Both jobs pay better than the one I just quit.

Suck it, Crappy Tire.

I remember selling a pair of speakers for $2000. The manufacturer charged me $1000 for them, so I did kind of wonder how much money actually went into the product. Easiest $1000 I ever earnt. Customer came in with a magazine pointing at a picture "I want these". I didn't sell that brand but decided to give them a call and try my luck. 40c phone call = $1000. Yippee for me and audiophools.

I witnessed a current-generation F150 in a rollover accident this afternoon. It was pretty gruesome. It changed lanes into a car, lost control, went into the median and started rolling. It landed upright, but the cab had collapsed almost completely down to the door handles. They had to extract the driver, who was pretty banged up.

Ford Rangers are kind of close. I think my 2003/2002 had a bed close to that size. I know it was 4' wide at least, but I don't know if it hit 6' long. My 06 F150 is close, too. I know the bed is at least 6' long, but it's probably closer to 5-5.5' wide.

It's not a hot take if it's the right take. Everyone forgets that the Mk4 was panned by critics when it came out for being too expensive, too fat, too blobby and not being great to drive. Plus that lump of an engine up front was probably designed by locomotive engineers, with the sheer amount of excess cast iron pretty much everywhere.
