I think progressives really fetishize proportional representation as some kind of panacea for our problems when the truth is most of the actions we need the government to be taking right now are likely to be deeply unpopular and will, if anything, be hindered by a more representative political system. Oh yah, Weaver is scum and an idiot, and I'm pissed Horgan was willing to delay minimum wage increase to appease him. At least it looks like they are fooling him on deregulation to help Uber, so far. I just wish Horgan would take more of a lesson from Dave Barrett and govern more desperately. They're not gonna be able to rely on Wilkinson being a total clown forever! I'm with you on UBI, it sounds like a nightmare, but I would like voting reform, just to see what it's be like. I don't think it solve anything by itself necessarily.

They're not gonna be able to rely on Wilkinson being a total clown forever! the thing about voting reform is it instantly solves like two problems that people love to gripe about, which are strategic voting and voters stuck in dead zones where they know their vote won't matter (socialists in Alberta, conservatives in downtown Toronto), but the parties would pretty obviously just change the way they operate and settle into a new status quo based on the new voting trends (for example, a permanent Liberal-Conservative unofficial coalition with them rotating who's prime minister based on whoever won the most votes last election) and there's no guarantee that status quo wouldn't suck just as much as the current one

It sucks that the only real media criticism we have in Canada is some libertarian jerkoff who spends half of every episode selling mattresses and Keurigs.

It's not as though anyone in politics currently gives a poo poo about the 30% or so of the electorate who don't own their homes.

"so if i vote for you, you're going to cut taxes, feign financial problems, and then destroy the medical system keeping me alive? well, that sucks, but at least you're gonna electrocute the gays away, right? you got my vote" There's also the incredible stupidity leaking over the border. I've talked to my dad once in ~4 years, and within 5 minutes he went straight into Hillary Clinton's evil deeds and how Trump will "save us". You can't imagine how stupid the average conservative voter is until you try to discuss anything with them without it turning into straight up conspiracy bullshit.

theres a chud guy who hangs around in the public lobby of the building I work in. always wearing a MAGA hat, always with one headphone in his ear, listening to infowars (or at least just keeping the logo up on the screen prominently displayed, like holding the phone weird to make it easier for passerby's to see.) the first few days i saw the guy in 2016/7 it was kinda funny, this rear end in a top hat just trolling people by wearing it. figured he had a gopro set up somewhere to get reactions. But its 2019 now. Buddy's still there. same hat. Different shirt every few days, but basically always wearing the same redpill poo poo, doing the same thing, standing there in the middle of the lobby near the toronto financial district just... wearing a maga hat and making it very VERY clear this is INFOWARS not some snowflake podcast he's listening to

Can't wait till I'm in a breadline wearing a respirator to protect from the perpetual fires and sipping river water after our 100 year old aqueduct finally collapses, at least I'll know the libs showed those idiots in the NDP who had a better do-nothing climate policy.
