Nuts to Osaka then. How about a train to Kobe and driving from there? I might be able to parley that into a a second Kobe steak night on the way back.

Rent a car in osaka to get the experience of:

1) stopping at some nice SAs along the way so that you can eat roadway side food and buy omiyage

2) almost running out of gas because you are an idiot and didn't pump up gas at the last SA

3) the experience of Osaka police arresting a chinese dude for going on a tantrum at the Kansai airport rental car station. Meanwhile I'm right in front of them casually talking to an agent about returning a car.

That's not at all what I said but you keep makin those false equivalencies, friend.

I'd go back to Akihabara for some more arcade action, that was where my partner and I stumbled into the Sega arcade and played a wild big mech game.

The stores that we went in were pretty much anime, which was meh for us but I'm sure there's more to explore, we spent only a few hours there. The little art stores under the train line was pretty neat.

Youve calculated the tolls right?

Like, I'm not actually saying driving from Osaka is a bad idea because I've done that before two times. Just do the math and determine if your friend is up to the experience.

If your friend only knows how to drive in Bumfuck Wyoming I wouldnt recommend they drive from Osaka, but if your friend drives in New York City, Osaka is a loving breeze compared to that.

We haven’t checked out tolls or anything yet. She’s driven around Europe and Okinawa so nowhere super crazy I don’t think.

We’re planning an overnight trip from Osaka to spend a night in Iya Valley with a stop over at the Naruto whirlpools on the way. Are we better off getting trains to Naruto and renting a car there, or just renting a car in Osaka and driving the whole thing?

Our driver ideally doesn’t wanna drive more than she has to but thought it’d be best to check first what the options are.

The trains are verrrry round about, you have to transfer in Okayama. Renting a car after getting to Shikoku is reasonable.

Check Osaka - Tokushima buses for the most direct route.
http://tokubus.co.jp/wptbc/highwaybus/osaka/

Wakayama - Tokushima ferry for the experience.

You said you found a gross underage anime porn game and walked out. I was saying "better not go to any game store in Japan" because you will find poo poo like that at all of them, particularly anywhere that sells PC games. It's not something exclusive to BEEP as you kinda made it out to be, and BEEP has far less of that poo poo than other places which have entire floors dedicated to it, their soundtracks playing on the stereo, the game ads running on TVs, and giant cardboard cutouts and posters of the teenagers you can gently caress in the game

She’s booked a car to pick up in Shin Kobe while I was posting here but thanks anyway for the links and info! She said she’ll do the extra driving on the condition that she picks all the car music, which I think means we’re listening to Taylor Swift’s entire back catalog.

Post Taylor Swift Disorder will make up for the time she went to a new year concert in Shinjuku with me that ended up including a local idol as one of the early-on performers. The main band were awesome at least!

All idol singing has been referred to as “chipmunks” since then.

Almost a week post-Japan and, to be frank, what I miss the most is a convenience store on every corner and super easy access to ito en green tea, literally everywhere.

I’m pretty sure I was addicted to lawsons choco-pan. That gooey semi sweet bread was a post-drinking fixture on my way home.

Vending machines on the street were one of my big things that I missed when I got home, especially getting a canned hot choc on a cold night.

Oh, and the fact that people don't litter literally everywhere.

I lived in the uk for a while and littering was the one thing that made me want to leave there the most. It's such a degenerate, scummy thing to just throw plastic wrappers on the ground.
