A lot of people love 3. I personally don't - it loses a lot of the back and forth 2 had, and is far more armour centric.

I had a squadron of torpedo bombers torpedo the ever loving poo poo out of a CL.

They were kind enough to stick their leftover near a BC. They missed, but did you see how dead that CL was?

Why is it that whenever my boats get torpedoed, they sink immediately, but the enemy hulks will eat torpedoes for hours before going down?

It's because the game will tell you immediately when your ship is kaputt, but not when the enemy's is. Ie, you only get told about the hostile ship sinking once it's already under the surface, but about yours as soon as it's clear it's going to be under the surface (eventually).

And yep, that 'realistic' game element drives me up the wall too.

3 is worth picking up for the Eastern Front setting, 4 is more of the same of 2.

In my Italy game I'm back at war with Austro-Hungary again. Air recon is starting to be useful. But man, DD captains right ? In my last battle I also lost two CAs to friendly torps. Given the balance of forces in the Adriatic they might as well have been BCs.

This game was always going to be for the lulz.

~80% of the time if an enemy ship has slowed below 10 knots it's terminally damaged and if it's dead in the water it's almost always sinking. You might need to manually intervene to prevent your ships from wasting ammo on them though.

The aircraft pummeling already-sinking ships thing rings true to me. There's plenty of stories of Japanese battleships eating dozens of bombs and torpedoes and it wouldn't shock me if most of those hits came in after the ship's fate was already sealed.

Fog of war?

Afaik only the owning nation gets the "x is sinking" notification and ships stick around looking non-sunk for quite some time for the opposing side unless something spectacular happens like the ship getting Invincible'd. If it got torped a few times and isn't moving or shooting, it's probably safe to focus on something else for a while.

Not a problem, sir

Pause the game and mouse over an enemy ship. It will tell you it's speed and any damage (Light/Heavy/On Fire/Sinking)

Won't stop your forces from firing on it even if it's partially underwater.

1907 - As the UK I went to war with Russia. First month, massive fleet battle in the Baltic. MASSIVE.

I’d just rebuilt some old B for colonial service, you know, upgrade FC and guns, bulge, poo poo like that. They’re complete crap.

So of course those are my flag division while the brand spanking new BC’s are the scout force. The four BC’s gently caress off to chase some cruisers while I get hit by a gazillion Russian B’s.

Major Russian victory.

Oh the US is communist now, and I have Panama, the Philippines and Guam. I could have had Alaska, but... canal.

Good evening everyone- we thought we should let everyone know how jets currently sit with the game. We had discussed a 'flag' or 'tech' advancement to highlight it, but given we are talking about navy jets most likely on carriers, once we allow that distinction then there is a host of complexity taken into things in ways that might not be obvious- in short, jets just need more room.

So at the moment there is no indicator that an aircraft is a prop or jet, however, any craft that can make 400+ knots can be safely considered to be a jet. This might seem arbitrary but there is only one notable example of prop naval aircraft which could make 400 knots.

This is something we are talking about internally, and it is relatively likely that more developments will come forward in a later patch.

Inspired by years of Grey Hunter LPs I decided to make my own mini wargame set in the Pacific. I've finally released it on the Google Play here: Pacific Fire

It's normally $3, but using these codes you can get it for free:
  • HWXS[seven]FCV9H9MGUDZA3D7CDB
  • HF[four]80NQRW95D50YAEU4MTUG
  • 2BKGYWZG5JDEPFV01Q[four]PNAD
  • P7LU3[three]HV29UPF2KE5MCRS42
  • 5HZUNLS8T4[nine]42RQQG5DF2RT
  • B8J[six]VT6X0XKKTYYFUXZKHMP
  • BF0BMYHWHDRYN9NK[eight]4NGFH3
  • EWBP0VB[two]ZY3ZYV97P5Y8RLM
  • EWVU5CA189[zero]QNNHLHYXRK9W
  • GR15UWQLD[six]Z8S76EDN0S9FY
Replace the [text] with a digit before using - e.g. [nine]->9

It's far, far simpler and quicker to play than WITP of course, but tries to capture a little of the same feeling. It covers the entire war on a map stretching from India to the west coast of the US, and includes more than a hundred types of aircraft, ships, and submarines. There are currently two grand campaigns spanning the entire war and a few smaller ones focusing on specific operations. Feedback very welcome!

It doesn't contain ads or use the ID in any way, but merely having access was enough to get it flagged. I've submitted an update removing access, should be back up again now.

I remember people like CC3 a lot (maybe because it was the first one with better graphics?) 4 has a campaign map you can move groups around on but they're both just more CC if that's what you're after.

So I tried out Pacific Fire.

It's pretty fun and fast paced, the UI makes sense and the cutscenes are quick and effective at relaying what happened; It's a good way to kill 10-15 minutes at a time on the toilet or waiting in a lobby, and it's definitely worth $3.50.

It's definitely WITP Light though, and I feel like some of the charm of the WE-GO system is lost without an emphasis on scouting and intelligence gathering, and with turns taking place over such a long period of time.

Since you can't have any idea what the enemy is going to do, and the consequences of allowing Level bombers to attack your ships without being intercepted are so severe; there is no reason to not doom stack everything that isn't a submarine and maximize CAP; ignoring what the enemy is doing in favor of maximizing the effectiveness of what you have control over.

Once out, this will probably be my "go to" WW1 grog recommendation because they've done well with this new series.

So this was... pretty boring actually. Fredrik seemed not to know his own games very well? He forgot he made Steam and Iron? Then he said putting missiles in RTW2 would be too difficult but they're already planned to go in? The only decent tidbit was Fredrik saying the AI doesn't see torpedoes, it just starts ships on evasive manoeuvres once DDs are in range.

Thanks for the feedback! The point about scouting/intel is interesting, I've been experimenting with some ideas along those lines.

Also looking at shorter turns (e.g. one week), which I think will have a significant impact - opens up more tactical options as well as reducing the penalty for undefended bases getting hit and unescorted bombers getting intercepted.
