Can't wait for Flashy to meet up with Atomic Samurai and we get to see what an Atomic Slash looks like in slow-motion. Also Darkshine lariat blending a bunch of monsters into Pig God's mouth. Also Bang and Bomb opening the Gates of Death.

Now for a "different" opinion: https://comicbook.com/anime/2019/05/01/one-punch-man-fans-praise-cgi-animation-centipede/ I suppose it did look good on its own, but saying you didn't notice it was CGI is a bridge too far. I do see a surprising amount of people saying that they don't care (or even notice something) that the show is poorly animated. I think though that if the show had been this way since S1, it would not be anywhere nearly as popular as it is now. Shadow0 fucked around with this message at 03:16 on Jun 7, 2019 |

Marvel, please just let Murata illustrate an issue of Spiderman. How many hints do you need the man to drop before he has to show up at your office begging you to let him do it for free?

Electric Phantasm posted:The Pain fight is animated beautifully and I won't hear otherwise. Nah it's actually pretty trash. The style they use to animate it is very fluid and opens up a lot of movement options, but the weight of the key frame placements are horribly off. If you want to see an example of that same exact animation method done right in the series, go watch the one tails naruto vs sasuske fight right before the time jump, the action is on point in ways that the pain fight could only dream sticking the landing on.

Well sure if you freeze it on that frame it looks like poo poo but that's one of my favorite episodes of that show. On the whole though, yeah, naruto is pretty much trash

I seem to remember having watched a video about the evolution of animation techniques and finding out that lots of intermediate frames look incredibly strange because like this, but I can't remember the specifics.

It's called a smear https://idearocketanimation.com/8857-animation-techniques-smear/ Few years back, people figured out this was how blizz made animation in ow look so smooth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk4coGVVfVU

Yeah, smears are super common in animation, and it's usually pretty unfair to isolate frames like that, since when it's in motion, you likely won't even notice the individual frames looking weird. I'm sure you could even isolate some frames in season one of one punch man that look really silly if you divorce it from the action it's a part of. One of the most famous examples of smearing would be "The Dover Boys" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR0eBWDVAtw or the Krust that cannot be Busted.

there's definitely a weird thing where a significant number of artists/animators insist that their use of wobbly elastic tweens makes animation look better and then one hundred perfect of their audience says otherwiseSlightly Absurd posted:when it's in motion, you likely won't even notice the individual frames looking weird. how do they know to pause on those frames if they didn't look weird in motion

Smears are like any other technique, if used properly they work well and if not you get cases like that weird sonic running animation. When done well they blend in and you have to really be looking for them to notice: https://sakugabooru.com/data/d4d2f2864b9c56845f426c550188081f.mp4 Bleck posted:how do they know to pause on those frames if they didn't look weird in motion In the case of OW it's because people started noticing them when editing their own potgs for youtube videos.

Even artists and animators who use smear frames enjoy and appreciate how dumb they look in isolation tbh

Fortunately, Kimetsu no Yaiba is really well animated with really good CGI so I'm getting my fix of "extremely well-animated action show".

Jimbot posted:Fortunately, Kimetsu no Yaiba is really well animated with really good CGI so I'm getting my fix of "extremely well-animated action show". On a related note they use CGI quite sparingly and in smart ways (CGI'd subject far from the PoV, shading similar to the hand drawn, used solely for motion shots and hard to animate designs) and even then its quite obvious when they do use it.

I'll have to watch it again but in the latest episode it looks like they used it during the fight when he's dodging around and thought it looked pretty great. A bit obvious, yeah, but as far as CGI in a traditional animation show, it was pretty top tier.

Miles Morales's story in Ultimate Spider-Man was so popular that when Marvel killed off the Ultimate universe, Miles was (one of?) the only ones that got to become part of the main continuity. Considering there have been no less than three Peter Parker origin stories told in the last 15 years, making one about the next most popular Spider-Man actually makes a lot of sense.

Miles getting into the mainline Marvel universe probably had more to do with his creator Brian Bendis still being a big force at Marvel at the time that the Ultimate universe was being eliminated, and he still wanted to write more Miles comics. also wolverine's son got ported over too lol man the ultimate universe went downhill fast once Jeph Loeb got involved Hellsau fucked around with this message at 08:18 on Jun 8, 2019 |
