Also Truth: Pokemon gently caress IIRC the only Pokemon past Gen 4 that can mega evolve are Audino and Diancie. Well, there's Ultra Necrozma but that's not technically mega evolution.

It kind of also made good on the playground rumors that the Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise had stronger forms. If they gave them to newer monsters, then the megas would completely overshadow the original forms (and it kind of already happened to some like Lucario and Salamence). Maybe in a future installment if they ever revisit Mega Evolution, then newer monsters from Gen 5, 6 and maybe even 7 may get one. Although Ash-Greninja kinda throws a spanner into that.

I’m almost to Solaceon Town in the DP anime, and it’s still solid. The Chimchar storyline was genuinely emotionally moving, and the tag battle competition had some good fights. The show is starting to rely a bit more on character of the day storylines, but they’re still better than the Johto CotD storylines; the focus is on the new Pokémon and the way Pokémon affect people’s jobs, rather than on random festivals/whiny kids/Team Rocket antics.

IIRC, Sinnoh does feature the longest filler gap between major events in the series, but I regard it as a major high point for the series regardless. And that Chimchar storyline ain't *remotely* finished yet.
