Wait, was he? I honestly can't even remember the slightest bit about Shido. Despite being such an important character, he somehow actually contributed basically nothing to the plot, intentionally at least.

Shido chat: He didn't seem to be aware of it happening. He definitely knew the effect it would have on him and was desperately trying to prevent it. Everyone else "spontaneously" changed their minds and repented but with him there's the question of whether or not having full knowledge of what was happening would allow the change to happen at all.

Yuck! Maybe they were dumping all their money into the Sonic the Hedgehog movie (should have been doing a Morgana the Cat movie instead). And those VA savings are not going to waste, as Gangsta's Paradise is hardly going to license itself.

I think they just didn't bother dubbing it because most people consider the 3DS dead. They didn't dub the new Etrian Odyssey either.

Vic Mignogna could Infinity Gauntlet half the planet off the face of the Earth and if you handed me a script of Junpei's dialogue I'd still read it in his voice. Like yeah, don't hire him, but P3 already came out and he already voiced Junpei, the damage has been done to my ears and my brain and I'll never be able to divorce Junpei from his voice. Same with Chie, even after they've done so much with the new VA.

While I can see the Vic thing (even if it's hilarious his lawsuit already seems to be flying off the rails and I hope he gets counter-sued into oblivion) but Erin Fitzgerald's made Chie her own so much that going back to the Chie's original dub voice just sounds weird. Diff'rent strokes, though.

And it was really good.

But it's kinda different since we were going from no voice-ac ting to Japanese voice-acting instead of the Eng dub to Japanese dub.

Erin Fitzgerald is just the perfect VA. I love her in everything.

I'm sad more people don't lament the loss of Dave Wittenberg as Teddie. I have not played original P4 and I love the new voice just fine, but Dave is so loving awesome in everything. I grew up with him as permavirgin weenie Allen in Xenosaga and he was great but then he was also Kakashi in Naruto who of course was the height of badass to teenage me. He could do it all.

To be fair, that's just one line and it's really the voice director's fault for letting such a crappy take get through to the final product. It just feels bigger than that for the player since it's a line that repeated many times throughout the game. I mean, even if you like the actor in the rest of the game, I think everyone can agree that that's an awful line.

Yeah, it's one bad line in a game full of great VA work. Hell, even looking at her other battle lines, specifically the Galactic Punt prompt where she goes "Oh, me me me! I'll do it!" is great and fun. It's not like Rex in Xenoblade2 where he's constantly putting emphasis on the wrong words or clearly doesn't know the context of the scene he's voicing so his inflections and energy levels are totally skewed. The fact that "Is this our chance" even comes up is because it's such an outlier in the overall quality of work.

So I've complained before about P5 being all about thieves and heists and stuff but never actually leaning into it, but PQ2 actually does. The first boss fight involves stealing outfits and making fake props and cranes and the game does a MUCH better job of pulling off the idea of a heist than the calling card boss fights of P5.

In P5 there's the bit where you push a button and Morgana gets lowered down on a rope. Then they drop it.

Well, you are robbing Kaneshiro’s bank by cracking safes and evading (extremely ineffective) cameras to get to his main vault. Still, they really could have made the missions more heist like beyond being themed around heist settings.

I always thought Ann should have been wanting to get into acting rather than modelling. That way she could be used in that role and give her a reason for being in the party. In better ways than her pretending to be a princess to that one creeper by the pool in Shido's palace.

I remember there was a post claiming that each character in P5 is a heist movie archetype. Joker is the leader, Morgana the lockpicker, Ryuji the muscle, Ann the femme fatale distraction, Yusuke the forger, Makoto the driver, Futaba the hacker and Haru the who knows. If that was intentional they did a pretty poor job of utilising them.

You’d think her she would help you buy out Iwae’s entire stock when she joins, but nope. She expects you to keep funding the entire team on your own by beating imaginary money out of stray thoughts.

Haru could have been your “in” for high society or pull strings to make things easier, but also nope. Anything she has is totally irrelevant by the time she joins up. All she brings to the team is gardening and the last elemental damage type.

We just keep finding new ways she got the short end of the stick.

Obviously because Makoto is the muscle.

Mar 11, 2010

Makoto was the Miss Daisy, Morgana was a Jethro, and they pulled a Leon Spinks. What they didn't have was a Jim Brown or an Ella Fitzgerald, though. And Haru was the Boesky, obviously.

RazzleDazzleHour
Mar 31, 2016

The Yusuke Forger thing makes a lot of sense especially considering the way Kamoshidaman plays out in PQ2, but yeah like other people have said I really would've wanted them to flesh these ideas out more. Even the emphasis on Picaresque is barely tied into the core ideas of what is happening.

I think that possibility is preempted by the game going with a Lupin III analogy with a lot of its characters instead, though of course there's overlap. Well, most of an analogy. I still don't know who if anyone is supposed to be Jigen.
