Is it some weird kind of money laundering, like they want to have Loony's so they set up suppliers for this insane pizza entergagement, and they buy stuff from their suppliers are jacked up prices and the restaraunt fails but they've gotten the money in and they can.. I dunno buy Canadian politicians or something? And the fact it's so garish and stupid is like their defense that it can't be money laundering?

there's one piece of this puzzle that defies my explanation entirely. reading about this piece of poo poo restaurant gives me an awful headache and the whole thing seems like an artifact from a fever dream. but i swear to god my 79-year-old mother's partner referenced a restaurant just like this in april. and here's the weird thing - i don't live anywhere near toronto. the guy is an 81-year-old former surgeon so he's pretty intelligent and not at all dementing or anything, but in april when i visited the two of them (my mother + her octegenarian boyfriend) he randomly dropped some observation about a garfield-themed pizza restaurant into the conversation, mentioning that it was in brisbane or beaudesert in queensland, australia , and said it was appropriate because garfield liked pizza so much. i was going to correct him at that moment because everyone knows garfield is all about lasagna, not pizza, but i figured i might as well let it slide because he's a cantankerous old man and i don't correct him about climate change not existing and all that. but a cursory search reveals that there is no such thing as a garfield-themed pizza restaurant anywhere in australia and either he was exhibiting signs of early dementia which strangely predicted this hallucinatory mess of a restaurant, or the mandela effect is real and this is concrete proof

The original Dubai launch of Garfield Eats got a fair amount of wacky puff piece coverage at the time, I can imagine an old man poorly recalling a factoid from the news would get his details wrong.

I wonder how long he can operate at a loss, since most restaurants are advised to expect to be in the red for their first year and all profit margins are razor-thin. And Garfield Eats, of course, is no ordinary restaurant.
