I doubt it'd be entirely underground; I don't think Nintendo would ignore just how popular some of the minor characters have gotten and make the sequel take place somewhere you can't meet them.

Setting all the new content underground makes sense though; they've had Subrosia before so it's not totally unusual, and it's not like we don't already have 100+ elevators leading down into the bowels of the earth in the form of the Shrines.

I'd be okay with cavernous vista with glowing bits of rock in the ceiling that kinda resemble stars. At least it's less to render and will make the framerate more stable.

Get. Hype.

The overworld shot with the castle lifting stuck out for not having the four giant pillars or sheikah towers/shrines dotted across the landscape. Death mountain was also not erupting. I think the overworld will still be accessible (it would make zero sense to not re-use all those art assets) but the map will open up and/or a subterranean aspect will make up a bulk of the new areas.

True dungeons seem to be a thing, too.

As much as the original BotW leaned on the physics and sheikah slate, I imagine Link/Zelda/Whoever won't have access to it for this go around. I'm buying the idea that link's arm gets possessed or lost.

If you see something suspicious, bomb it!

I am extremely down for a Sheikah Slate+Sekiro approach for this game.

Gonna be fun speculating on this teaser trailer for the next year and a half before Nintendo tells us anything new.

i'm silly and sent actual feedback to nintendo saying i like the idea of zelda being playable even if it's just random speculation bc just the idea of playing botw zelda made my gf light up and i like it when she does that

this is by far her favorite game and the best part of the direct yesterday was seeing her reaction. she says in making a champion her art book that they wrote they've already been working on this for a while so i'm wondering if it's gonna be a november 2020 release.

A golden helix streaked skyward from the Helvault. A thunderous explosion shattered the silver monolith and Avacyn emerged, free from her prison at last.

So Zelda, but in space. But instead of just being Metroid, Samus is on the same planet/space station/whatever and you have to avoid her because she has a plasma cannon and a shoot first policy, as you both delve deeper to find and eliminate the evil within.

Didn't people figure out the runic language in BotW1 was a simple substitution cypher for english? I remember screenshots of the slate upgrade pillars showing it off. Has anyone tried checking those against the floaty green glyphs? I looked around a bit but didn't find anything, and I'm an idiot so I know I'm not the first person with this idea, there should be like 8 2-hour videos on this already.
They did, and it's all a bunch of cool Zelda easter eggs like "It's a secret to everybody."

Anyway, at best I tolerate dungeons to get to more overworld, so I'll be extremely disappointed if the lesson they learned from "no dungeons, best-selling Zelda game of all time" is "let's make it all dungeons."

I love Link's look in the trailer, with the leather armor pieces from the Hylian armor strapped over the Champion's Tunic. Would be dope if there were a way to combine armor or weapons in the sequel.

Man I hope the hordes of people who are convinced zelda will be playable in this game based on literally nothing won't be disappointed when it inevitably will be the case that she isn't because, nintendo.

Also i'll be disappointed if they use the same overworld, even if it is altered significantly.

That interview really makes it sound like the same overworld... Maybe adding dungeons and underground, it might be cool to go back to a place you know that has significantly changed. Likely going back to your home town, it’s the same but different.

Whimsicalfuckery

Yeah that interview does imply the same map, unless "revisiting that hyrule" is cryptic talk for something. Personally I think it'd be cool if there are two worlds, the current botw hyrule and an alternate world, maybe a dark world or termina-like subversion, and you can travel between them. One of the things I always wished I could do when playing MM as a kid was go through the door in the basement of the clock tower and back to OOT hyrule with all the MM powers and items.

this is the company that released MoM with a straight face. how bad does it have to be for the decision makers to actually pull the plug?

also there's literally 3 games worth of precedent for what a fun, modern metroid looks like and it's the prime trilogy. did that bomb in japan or something to the point that they refuse to design a new game in a similar way?

It'd be nice to see Hyrule after a few years with ruins partially rebuilt and whatnot. But I hope they do some variation on the common two worlds/mirror/dark world thing, and one of the "worlds" being underground would be cool.

No fair! You changed the outcome by measuring it!
I'm no fancy game programmer, but I would guess that lots of DLC could be more readily done by adding underground caverns, rather than modifying the existing world too much. They can use the classic "goron punching a wall in a cave fruitlessly as a gate point", there's a team of them outside of Goron City.

Put me down for a charity betting pool. I bet on toon Link

They had an unnamed studio working on it, then they restarted development because the game was in a bad state and brought Retro back on board instead. So lord knows what kind of nonsense was going on there.

zelda is never going to be the sole playable character and is definitely not going to be playable in this game, anyone who expects otherwise is setting themselves up for disappointment at best and revving the outrage engines at worst
