GunnerJ posted:It actually sounds like it rules tbh it's kind of interesting once you get past the completely trashy premise. It does everything in its power to avoid any interesting ideas like how would a person utterly drowning in violence react to suddenly being moved into an environment where no violence is needed, and it assigns Frisk literally zero agency (though it does make Frisk female which I like just because of how rarely that happens) but its prose is shockingly effective at conveying doom-like action: quote:Ammunition half depleted. Muzzles turning red. Don’t care. Keep firing. Forty of them already. Forty-eight. Fifty-seven. Sixty-two. Little freaks aren’t even dodging. Your precious queen is dead. Can’t stop me. Barons coming for you. Standard pair. Shoot at their knees. Watch them buckle over, Tear their heads off. Ammo at quarter capacity. Store chaingun. Whip out Plasma rifle. Stun module. Keep them from getting past you. Pinky’s stuck. Let him sizzle while you blast his imp friends away. Wait… something just skewered him in the eye. It’s an arrow or something- and it's also far better at capturing the characters' voices than it has any business being.

Alright, Undertale was pretty great. Man, what an emotional rollercoaster that ending was. I feel like I missed some stuff but that's what wikis are for.

The one connection I missed on my playthrough was the significance of the jokes you tell Woshua. You tell a joke about a kid who ate a pie with their bare hands. You tell a joke about two kids who played in a muddy flower garden. You tell a joke about a kid who slept in the soil. There are a couple of other oddball things you'll never find on your own that I can just show you in screenshots. First is a little easter egg if you name your character 'Quote': https://imgur.com/a/qwxCD Next is Grillby's shop view, hard to access and honestly barely worth it given the effort it takes: https://imgur.com/a/EfjhS This was a small halloween event patched in the first year, only comes up with the right time/date: https://imgur.com/a/C14E3/ And finally the difficult-to-execute Grillby fight (though this is a Geno route thing) https://imgur.com/a/oTc1J Scarodactyl fucked around with this message at 06:01 on Jun 14, 2019 |

I guess I just needed a moment to gather my toughts. Man, the True Lab was very Gyigas in a good way. And the final battle was amazing. Consideirng how much I loved the Deltarune earlygame compared to the Undertale earlygame, I'm even more hype for when it comes out in 2039.

One thing that irks me with the True Pacifist ending is that the Asgore fight fakeout doesn't feel like a direct consequence of the player's actions. Toriel does say that she only had time to arrive because Frisk was constantly taking detours befriending everyone, going on dates and solving the True Lab, but mechanically it feels like a guard disappearing in an adventure game because you found the cat's mustache or whatever three screens east, just a videogame trigger. Everything that happens afterwards is still A+ (let's just say... a tiny flower helped me.) but I just can't shake the feeling about that specific moment Cipher Pol 9 posted:Man the artwork in this game never fails to impress me.

I replayed Deltarune the other day, and I think that game might have my favorite opening of any game. Top 5 at least, easy. The character creation process does drag on for several seconds too long, but everything from there to the first save point is pitch perfect. The emotional whiplash of small-town monsterville, Susie threatening to eat your face in a scene that is genuinely tense and kind of terrifying... It is, if not rare then at least uncommon, to see sequels move beyond reference and surface-level subversion to actually actively capitalize on the expectations set by the original. It's so good.
