I’ve only rarely seen this good a buildup. Of course, all this potential energy is going to need a payoff, and this is where most suspense games blunder.

As for Yuppie Psychi? I cannot WAIT to show it off.

You know what? I don't even know what 'Yuppie Psycho' as a title means. The words individually seem to imply it means 'An insane yes-man'.

Hello yes I heard there was a lovely trainwreck here and...

Kate may look better but even without the cassette vision we don't know how long she was really in there before Brian showed up, and this doesn't seem to be a slow-acting poison. Alternatively, there is the matter of the Mouth knowing Brian was a hunter somehow, and Brian did show Kate the letter before he knew he'd have to hide that information... then again, if Kate were directly allied with the witch she'd have tried to kill Brian already, so who knows what's going on?

The letter didn't say anything about Witch Hunters, though.

Mzbundifund
Nov 5, 2011

I'm afraid so.
The letter came in a red envelope, which, according to the half-dead hunter we met in the library, means "hired to be a hunter". If Kate is the witch, presumably she'd know that.

I think I would hate actually playing Yuppie Psycho, just due to the kind of game it is, and how obtuse parts of it seem to be... and because the "working in an office environment" horror is giving me the heebie-jeebies. I am enjoying the LP a lot though. I want to see where the game's going.

And that "Voice" segment, wow. That's by far my favourite part of the game so far. That was fantastic. It's amazing what a difference the right piece of music in the right place makes. It certainly made a big difference for me in terms of how into the game as a whole I am. Kind of (... kind of) like how hearing BFG Division got me to finally give Doom 2016 a go. (Previously I'd been avoiding it due to the gore-porn.)

Good music makes a big difference!

It's the logical extension of what he did to the money changers. That was a level 1 infraction on the Jesus-Kick-Your-rear end scale. (anything less, including physical strikes to your person, receives the ol' "turn your other cheek") DOOM shows a level 3 or 4 infraction, I'd guess.

Don't walk in the flower bed! <> Anyway, that was an enjoyable party that raised no further questions. Speculation:

If I had to guess right now, I think Hugo's likely anti-witch but doing unpleasant things that need to be done to end this after so many years of hunters getting nowhere. He was affiliated with the big three hunters in the past, and yeah the frog is a familiar, but it's literally a mask he adopts, then forces Brian to make progress rather than run away.

Regarding Sintra, I think the Hexenhammer got loaded with a scannable virus (or just a hex) that infects Sintra after digitizing it. Seems like she starts up a fresh instance for each hunter? Corvus' digital space seemed so messed up that it must have been increasingly corrupted for years. The only data in there was Corvus' emails. Which tell us "the robot" has the key.

Nearest I can tell, that symbol in the hunters office, or more accurately that Veve is much like that of the Loa, Ayizan. Associated with commerce and the marketplace in Haitian Vodou, I guess that kind of makes sense for a corporate Vodou priest. She's also tied to knowledge of the natural world and initiation rites through her Loko. Closest thing in Vodou that I could find.

A.M.'s design draws heavily from South American artistic renditions of the Blessed Virgin, some of which are more bell-shaped than others.

Neat!

It’s an interesting culture mishmash - I kind of assumed the “capital” was like neo-Tokyo, but the Sintras are João (Portuguese? Brazilian?) and Xiu (clearly Chinese).

To my mind, the bought child is clearly a Kitsune, or “Huli jing “, and the creepy old guy to me looked stereotypically Chinese.

The bans on the child seem straight out of a fairy tale - I wonder if part of the problem is that we’re trying to understand witches based on a European manual? That said, apparently the hexenhammer has been right on at least a few counts...

Edit: boy, you aren’t kidding

I'd like to draw comparisons to Silent Hill 4 with this party-in that game, you have the titular Room where you can save and heal without harassment, as a place to retreat before heading back into nightmare locations. Then, after you reach the halfway point, it starts getting haunted, and you feel threatened. This is similar to what just happened to the cafeteria-even your normal 'hub' had a dangerous area, but the cafeteria was one of the only places you couldn't get hurt in-then they take it away from you.

Covski

Bringing the forums together with the greatest thread!
I had the exact same reflection, but regarding the elevator. I thought it was very effective since elevator buttons screens like that in adventure games are usually just thinly disguised UI elements for going between areas, and messing with that was sort of startling.

Roughly, how close to the end of the game are we getting now? The cafeteria scene really felt like a bit of a point of no return, but it also kind of feels like the game is just getting started somehow.

I’d say we’re 2/3 through? That’s of a guided walkthrough. There’s much more exploration and bumbling about in a normal/blind play, so that play is probably like 5/6 done.

Since we only missed one person, I don’t think missing Rostov will have any gameplay effect.

...wait, you WERE paying close attention to everything we saw and heard at the party, right?
