I did my most recent Steuererklärung with Elster, and was pleasantly surprised how easily that went. Setting the whole thing up with certificates and whatnot took some doing, but once that was done it was just a matter of "Automatically fetch my tax data from the Finanzamt -> Enter deductions -> Submit" and the whole thing was done in like half an hour.

One major reason we’re not getting married is the zwangsweise gemeinsame steuerliche Veranlagung. Why???? Such bullshit. And his year the Steuerbehörde didn’t allow me to abzieh my very significant expenses for various school stuff because... reasons? loving assholes, see if I ever invest my own cash in high-quality Sekundärliteratur and Unterrichtsmaterialien again. At least my new laptop was abzugsfähig.

Ich wohne ca. 4 km von meiner Arbeitsstätte entfernt, da ich im Stadtbereich von Düsseldorf wohne und mein Arbeitgeber in einem der Büroviertel sitzt. Meine Entfernungspauschale wäre 230*4*0,3€=276 €. Ich zahle aber für meine Montaskarte ÖPVN 68,65 € im Monat, habe also im Jahr 823,80 € Kosten. Und weil die höher sind als die Entfernungspauschale (und halt ÖPNV) kann ich die auch geltend machen. Da ich neben meinen Fahrtkosten auch noch andere Werbungskosten habe (z.B. Kammerbeiträge), komme ich auch insgesamt über den Arbeitnehmerpauschbetrag, sodass es für mich tatsächlich einen Unterschied macht, ob ich nur 276 € Pendlerpauschale oder 823,80 € habe. Und mein Grenzsteuersatz ist auch in einem Bereich, wo ich von meinen einen ordentlichen Batzen wiederkriege. Für Sozialversicherungen ist es übrigens vollkommen egal, ob Du 60.000 € Arbeitslohn kriegst und 40.000 € Werbungskosten hast oder 60.000 € Arbeitslohn hast und 1.000 € Werbungskosten. Sozialversicherungsbeiträge zahlst Du immer auf den vollen Arbeitslohn bis zur Beitragsbemessungsgrenze. Und das ist m.E. eine für den Durchschnittsbürger wesentlich gemeineren Effekte.

How do I handle Pendlerpauschale when I have three jobs? I don't go to every job every day and usually I go to multiple jobs in a day. I am supposed to geb an the distance and days for my primary Arbeitsstelle but I'm not even sure which of them I'd call that. If I tell them I go (number of days/year I go to at least one job)*(shortest distance to one of the three jobs) am I good or can I get hosed for that and I have to do some noneuclidean math here?

You should probably do a Fahrtenbuch if you're using a car. For ÖV it's just the abo. If you have both, no idea how it works in DE, but make an extrablatt where you put all the stuff on it with a sum and use that.

I use a Fahrrad. I have three jobs because I have the shitbrains and this helps me work around some of the resulting issues better.

I just got back from a bit of a roundtrip to the vicinity of Rosenheim, and on the way back, the world basically ended. The horizon was looking pretty drat ugly on my way there, so I figured I'd maybe take a more northward route in the hopes that the Gewitterfront was moving southeast. Welp, nope. When I figured I had about 35 mins back, google maps advised me that the route around the southwest of Feldkirchen was closed, so my ETA went up by 38 minutes and the next half hour or so was straight through the Gewitter. Absolute mayhem on the little Käffer along the way, branches on the road everywhere, an actual detour due to a flooded abbiegende Vorfahrtstraße in a Senke where some champ sat in his Seat Ibiza with Warnblinkanlage. Ten minutes into the Gewitterfront, I actually took shelter on a Waldweg due to hail starting, which probably wasn't the safest idea in retrospect due to the whole branches-from-the-sky issue. Hope all the folks in the southwest of München are alright despite how bad it looked. Ironic benefit of the trip: My colleagues empfahlen mir "RainX" for the windshield a couple of months back, and last week, one of them ordered a two-pack for them and myself, I applied it on Monday, and boy howdy, that poo poo surprisingly works better than anticipated. You basically don't need your Scheibenwischer past 30km/h. /edit: My chilis survived. One wurde umgeweht, but she's fine. Huddled them all up yesterday evening before the windy night, thank Jeebus.  Here's a pic from yesterday for comparison. Got the first Chocolate Habaneros coming in, and my Reapers have around 20 blossoms per plant

On a different topic. I have a couple of friends who drank too much of the neo-liberal kool-aid, and there is a recurring topic which is the "abolition" of the Provision that took place some years ago. According to them, when the Provision was abolished, then, according economy 101, they expected the corresponding cost of the Provision to be transferred to the rents, because the tenants can afford higher rents and therefore the landlords can raise them to what tenants are willing/able to pay. So they predicted an increase in rents. I think that this is a load of baloney because what actually happened is that there was a useless middle-man that existed due to a stressed Wohnungsmarkt plus the fact that the person getting the service (the Vermieter) wasn't the one paying for it. I predicted virtually no change in rent and the disappearance of a useless service. I know that Provision is still being demanded illegally in some cases. This is my request to the thread: I could never find studies on the impact of this law. Does anybody have a study or article handy?

Seems they lost the Blätter because they're treibing aus, I guess. The Sichuan one treibs aus at the bottom like no tomorrow, figures with how the berries are supposed to be big clumps of berries and not just single ones. YAY. Still no blossom on the Sichuan though, but the other one (either Dutch Yellow or Dente de Coyote) has blossoms in wait.

How are you even supposed to trim, anyway? Speaking of how we're all growing different varieties, I think next year I'm gonna do some peri-peris to make some Nando's knockoff sauce. Super intrigued about how my lemon drops turn out, since I love the idea of them too. Also how hard is it to overwinter these plants, assuming I want to keep them around as perennials?

(and how would you go about cutting, I'm curious) Well, the "wrong direction" stems more from the fact that all of my Chocolate Habaneros and Reapers were robbed of their Seitentriebe during the storm last week, and their attempt at recovering has been focused on growing upward and developing the more stable crown. In Tomato-plants, this isn't really an issue since you usually ausgeiz the Seitentriebe and go for a fairly tall main stem, because Seitentriebe deprive the Frucht-Spawning Zweige from important nutrients. In Chilis, Ausgeizing isn't that important of an issue, since Chilis don't require the same amount of energy for developing fruit, so you usually just köpf the Königsblüte to tell the plant to get more bushy instead of tall, and then just casually crop as it keeps growing. My problem is that I love my plants a little too much, and don't really like hurting them, so I give them a lot of leeway upwards despite the "smart" course being to continuously limit their upward growth. I just really like thriving plants. After the storm damage, this lead to my already-80cm tall Reapers/Chocolate Habaneros to keep pushing upwards, and that just doesn't work on my balcony. The pots I have them in can easily let them grow to something around a meter and a half, but they'll get blown over by every single day that sees 15km/h winds with occasional Böen due to the Staudruck along my building and the way my balcony eats the brunt of Luftverwirbelungen. Heres a Stamm-oriented picture of the plants in question, the Reaper on the left has been complying very reasonably with my requests over the last two weeks, spawning a lot of Seitentriebe instead of going straight-up "TO THE loving MOON AND BEYOND", the other Reaper (3. v.l.) has been starting to get around to the program, but the Chocolate Habanero in the middle has dealt with losing literally every leaf below the crown by going "LOL, MOON? WHY THINK SO SMALL?" Ignore the Red Habanero on the far right, because it's just a really chipper plant that is happy to be around its taller cousins:  This is the problem, said Chocolate Habanero in the middle is just happy to go straight up despite having zero Seitentriebe, so it's the picture-perfect antithesis to proper Chili-cropping. Full disclosure, all of these pictures are already post-cropping, so the extent of my plants motivations isn't as apparent in what you can see. The cropping I've done is to basically to cut back every new upwards-trieb, and to curtail every seitwärts-Trieb that has indications of being a "main" trieb that is perpendicular to what it is branching off of.  My White Fantasy is looking particularly raggedy, because - once again - I didn't follow the standing "rules" of stutzing. If a trieb already has Blüten or Fruit, you're not really supposed to ditch it, because the leaves around those branches support the maturing of fruit and all. I just couldn't bring myself to cut off Triebe that already had all-but-reife Chilis, like in this picture (emphasis on the far left):  I honestly shouldn't have let either of my plants get above 60-70cm, but I just love seeing my plants thrive. I'm gonna put off cleaning my balcony until the next two days of Unwetter-Warnung are over.
