If you're interested in crops, The Star has a great piece about farmers adapting to climate change: http://projects.thestar.com/climate-change-canada/saskatchewan/

In lighter (armored vehicle :rimshot:), NPR has a story about the LAV contract: https://www.npr.org/2019/06/18/732414876/for-saudi-military-vehicle-deal-canada-weighs-jobs-and-human-rights . This is my highlight:

quote:

The company says it directly employs 1,700 highly skilled people in London, and indirectly provides work to more than 12,000 additional people across Canada through more than 500 suppliers. Macartney says there are more than 240 suppliers in London alone for the armored vehicle contract.

One of those is the Rho-Can Machine & Tool Co. Co-owner DJ DeJesus says the company employs about 100 people and counts on General Dynamics for 35% of its business.

"So if the contract goes away, 35% of the people lose their job," he says. "That would be just horrific."

DJ loving DeJesus . Like Jesus said, losing jobs making parts for death machines would be horrific.

Dude should loving quit his job and start spinning Christian EDM. Dance to DJ DJ DeJesus awwww yeah.

A good example of why public terrorism is idiotic in the extreme. Those two chucklefucks just ended up maiming a mother and some other innocent folk, while entirely missing this motherfucker who's built his life around manufacturing weapons for genocides.

We should do like the British and figure out some way exporting weapons to a genocidal state is a violation of Canadian law, and sue the government to force them to stop, because every Canadian government is so beholden to the god of capitalism, Jobs, to do anything but offer their unconditional support.

You want a Philips 4k bulb, humidity control, and roughly 84* F temperature. Everything else is just pest management and your chosen feeding method.

If you are planning to grow something seriously then I would highly recommend Korean regenerative farming as a basis.

Ford: We're going to move people around to run things more fairly so I look like less of a corrupt shitbag.

https://www.cp24.com/news/ford-appoints-four-people-to-sell-ontario-abroad-including-ex-pc-party-president-1.4475557

quote:

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has appointed four people to positions abroad to drum up business in the province, including a former aide to his brother and a former president of the Progressive Conservative party.

The four agents-general - positions that have not existed in Ontario's government since the 1990s - will be based in London, Chicago, Dallas and New York City, and serve as the province's primary international representatives there. They will be paid between $165,000 and $185,000.

The government said it may appoint up to four more agents-general.

The appointees include Earl Provost, who served as chief of staff to Ford's late brother Rob Ford when he was mayor of Toronto. Provost, also a former Ontario Liberal Party executive, joined the premier's office as a policy adviser a few weeks ago and will now head to Chicago. Jag Badwal, who is a past president of the Ontario PC Party, heads to Dallas. Taylor Shields, an assistant vice-president of marketing for Chubb Insurance, gets the London post and Tyler Albrecht, a senior analyst at Optimize Capital Markets, goes to New York City.

Opposition politicians have previously been critical of appointments Ford has made of friends and loyalists, after accusing the Liberals during the election campaign of helping insiders get rich.

  • Ford sparked a huge outcry when he named family friend Ron Taverner as Ontario Provincial Police commissioner, an appointment Taverner ultimately turned down.
  • Jenni Byrne left her post as principal secretary for an appointment with the Ontario Energy Board with an annual salary of about $197,000.
  • Past Progressive Conservative party president Rueben Devlin was granted a three-year term as a health-care adviser
  • Ford campaign adviser Ian Todd was appointed Ontario's trade representative to the United States, with a $350,000 salary
  • Ford family lawyer Gavin Tighe was appointed to the Public Accountants Council.
  • Failed Tory candidate Cameron Montgomery was appointed to lead a standardized testing organization.

Elections Canada is scrapping a plan to run a social media influencer campaign aimed at young people, after conservatives rightly complain that the program will benefit only the Liberals because none of the celebrities young people are likely to listen to on social media are bigots.

I have a lot of mixed feelings here.

But wait, you didn't mention the part where they already paid a bunch of said influencers before scrapping the whole thing after discovering a bunch of them had a bunch of partisan involvement.

Bunch of free cash for some kids with connections.

(Also the bolded text seems unlikely as video gaming culture is still garbage and kids seem to really like watching streamed video games.)

flakeloaf

Well that was wrong; I meant none of the celebrities they picked were small-c-conservatives (or bigots)

https://barrie.ctvnews.ca/elections-canada-scraps-social-media-influencers-to-encourage-youth-vote-1.4475853

quote:

Elections Canada revealed Thursday that among those who were supposed to take part in a video encouraging youth to register were Olympic athletes Andre De Grasse, Penny Oleksiak and Max Parrot and YouTubers Mitch Hughes, Elle Mills and Lilly Singh. The others were comedian Katherine Levac, TV hosts Maripier Morin, Nicolas Ouellet, singer-songwriter Alex Nevsky, blogger Thanh Phung, actor and First Nations activist Ashley Callingbull and Maayan Ziv, a photographer and activist for disability issues.

Perrault's decision to scrap the influencers campaign comes after sustained criticism of the idea from Conservative MPs, who alleged it was evidence of bias on the part of Elections Canada. They doubted the influencers would be truly non-partisan and charged that any increase in youth voter turnout would largely benefit the Liberals.

The Conservatives quickly pointed to past partisan activity by at least three of the 13, including a 2016 tweet by Ziv about being "in that @JustinTrudeau afterglow" and a September 2015 tweet by Callingbull calling on First Nations to vote out Stephen Harper's Conservative government.

Find me a person in the public eye who didn't agree that Harper had to go at the end of his term (or an Indigenous voter who thought he should stay).

Also, "having tweeted about it once at some point in the past" is hardly "involvement", is it?

James Baud posted:

This, I agree with. All of the people on that list are easily capable of making a video telling their audience to go vote for anyone at all, as long as they vote.

Majority in every province but 1 back Liberals’ Trans Mountain decision, and it’s not B.C.: Poll

quote:

The survey also found majority support for the project in every province except for one -- though the odd one out wasn't British Columbia.

Instead, Quebec is the dissident province, with just 31 per cent backing Ottawa's decision, with 40 per cent opposed.

...

A full 85 per cent of Conservative voters say they support TMX, while 56 per cent of Liberal backers and 33 per cent of NDP or Green backers approve of it.

Not like the Liberals need votes in Quebec, anyway!
