Nope. It will never show up as itself on your radar or game, you have to catch a mon Ditto is disguising itself as. Once in a blue moon we get research quests that give you a guaranteed Ditto but I would not wait for that.

Ditto can currently be one of the following mons, so try catching them plenty:

Zubat
Paras
Ghastly
Sentret
Yanma
Hoothoot
Zigzagoon
Whismur
Gulpin
Mankey
Remoraid
Ledyba
Venonat

It used to include Rattata and Pidgey but since those have shinies now, they cannot be Ditto, apparently.

Nope. All you can do is check with the ever-changing/growing list of Pokemon that can possibly be a Ditto in the wild and catch them any chance you get. Sometimes the research task rotation will have a task that rewards you with a Ditto but nothing right now has it nor do I remember how long ago it was when they last had that (and it was like "Make one excellent throw"). I remember saving one of them at the catch phase until I could find a task where the requirement was to catch one and then just use up my free Ditto on it.

This is why some local Discord servers have a channel dedicated to people reporting Ditto findings in the wild, but that was mostly when it was a task toward getting Mew or Celebi, I forget. No one really reports them anymore since everyone's done with it. This should be the current list for all potential Ditto disguises. I can confirm I did catch a Paras that turned into a Ditto lately.

Ditto also have a higher difficulty catching so if one of these potential ones seem like they're escaping from your catch attempts a lot, it just may be a Ditto and you should plunk down a razz berry (or gold if you're desperate).

Your only real guarantee is waiting for them to show back up as research. They only appear during certain events but if you keep up to date with the monthly/event research reward you’ll get one eventually.

There’s no triangulation involved in finding them, certain gyms are just designated as Ex gyms based on historical factors like whether they’re in a park on OSM data. Also I’ve heard that there have been no “new” Ex gyms created for a couple of years. When you’re viewing the gym info in-game there’s some label up at the top of the screen if it’s an Ex gym, but also if you have a local raid scene people should just know which they are.

Getting an Ex pass is more hit and miss - it’s generally a case of raiding at an Ex gym in a group, and/or getting lots of people to raid at the gym within a couple of weeks.

The boundaries of a "park" gym are defined by Open Streetmap data from something like 3 years ago now.

New gyms created inside park boundaries from that old data should still be valid, as will any new sponsored gyms that are created somehow.

However, any existing gyms or any gyms created inside a park that wasn't labeled as such in the ancient OSM data Niantic used to make the original EX boundaries will not pop up correctly.

It's a really dumb, broken system. They use OSM data but have only ever updated it 2 or 3 times for spawn mapping and never for EX location.

I don't think I have ever seen anything out of the ordinary on any gym I've seen in the months I have played the game and the many different locations where I've booted it up. Doesn't help that I don't have much of a local raid scene in my hometown either, so I have no idea who to ask.

I'd imagine if they have been at fixed locations, someone would have compiled a list of where by now. Searching for "Ex gym locations silph road" and variations doesn't bring up anything, though.

When you are looking at a gym, where you can see all the Pokémon inside it, in the top right hand corner there will be a little icon saying EX in a light green-blue if it's an EX raid gym. It looks kind of like the little binoculars+tick that appears on stops when you've completed their research quest for the day.

If it's not there, the gym you're looking at is not an EX raid gym.

I fully agree that it's a dumb, broken system. In my case the whole CBD of a city of 2,000,000 did not have an EX gym.
I don't know whether it is some manual intervention or what but about 6 months ago an existing gym was promoted to an EX gym.

Yeah, for Ditto, basically all you can do is try to catch as much of those garbage pokemon as possible, which can be tough, since they're so easy to ignore, AND due to the fact they seem to frequently enjoy having these "events" where the normal spawns are replaced with whatever du jour set of pokemon is relevant to the "event," which makes finding Ditto even tougher [fortunately, we don't seem to be in one of those "events" now.]

I think I'm gonna pass on that Harry Potter game. Pokemon as an AR game, despite its flaws, makes perfect sense as a natural extension of the Pokemon series. Before looking into the HP game, I tried to wrack my brain over how exactly a Harry Potter AR game would work, and it just isn't as immediately obvious as Pokemon Go, and I think that's gonna hurt Wizards Unite. It looks like the HP game might have some interesting depth to it, but the little gameplay I saw didn't really look all that intriguing, though the game does aesthetically look very nice. I feel like the game will probably do pretty well at first, due to HP's similar giant pre-existing fan base, but probably drop off quick.

Hopefully I'm wrong and the game actually is really fun and popular, but I guess I'll wait and see.

I think I indirectly made a gym in my town because a Pokestop wasn't correctly within its park boundaries until I cleaned it up so it finally was, then it became a gym not too long after that. I had no idea I caused it until someone in my town's Discord told me that's probably what happened because he saw where I was editing in OSM in my town.

Not saying people should go and stretch boundaries unfairly in OSM but it's worth cleaning up your town to catch things like this.

The key difference here is that it is a hell of a lot easier to get 7k eggs than 10k ones, all you gotta do is open up a gift. That alone makes hatching for Riolu much more bearable cause you get up to twenty chances to hatch one a day if you got the time and incubators to burn.

I think all that means is you can see if a particular gym is Ex Raid capable:

You can see it in the top right corner there. So if you do a few (or a lot, who knows) raids at that gym, you are more likely to get an Ex Raid pass when the passes go out next.

I have two Ex Raid gyms in the park by my house and I've gotten probably three or four Ex Raid invites to each one over the last two years.

PvP. You can get one potentially per day by battling one of the gym trainers, and you can get potentially up to three a day buy battling with other players. The rate of stone drop per battle is really low though.

While statistically not impossible, I kind of doubt the rate is that low. I hatched one a couple of weeks ago and I don't exactly have luck with this sort of thing. For reference, I've never managed to hatch a Riolu from either 10km or 7km eggs, nor have I've ever hatched a shiny mon.

So yeah well over. For riolus you could force the 7kms and they had a low % , for gibles it's 110 possibilities at various rates but I guarantee there's very few lower than it so it's under 1/100 chance

This is the reason why I think the rate is so low - my local discord has a picture of the entire egg pools and there's about 20 mons that can hatch from 10k. And those aren't equal chances, either, last I checked silph road Dratini alone had about an 11% hatch rate.

I just have my fingers crossed my current egg is a gible and hatches while the bonuses are still active.
