when she asked for the death row inmates I just figured she was recruiting to replace the guys killed by the enemies. How wrong I was.

But honestly kind of a cheap chapter. Cool but boring at the same time. It's good though, because everything preceding this was insane levels of insanity.

I admire Makima as a character, well dressed, strong and good leadership.
I wonder how they'll save Denji now.

Looking professional when committing genocide is essential. This is mostly achieved by using a beret.

Olive drab colour ensures the genocider will remain hidden from his prey until it's too late for them to do anything.

It would have been better paced if they inter-spaced her devil taking people out during another fight. Something to heighten the tension between the deaths randomly happening, allies not even sure what was going on, then at the end reveal that Makima was doing it all. Keep a sense of the unknown instead of just going "Makima is god tier, look how cool this is".

I saw speculation that Makima's devil contract is the Heights devil. A fairly powerful human fear, needed the tallest temple to get set up, the victims were completely pancaked on the ground, and the "weird feeling" that guy had before he got owned could have been vertigo/falling sensation. If we want to stretch further, we could tie her inability to be/feel full with that sinking pit in your stomach during a drop.

Regarding the WNL fanservice thing, I think my less negative reaction is mostly down to the art style not involving particularly exaggerated anatomy. The frequency of fanservice isn't really less than something like Hatsukoi Zombie, but the less exaggerated anatomy makes it stand out less to me. But I wouldn't classify it as being remotely the same as something like that other WSJ series about the dude in the inn with the yokai (forget what it's called). Basically "fan-service heavy borderline-softcore-porn shounen romcom" seems to be a separate genre/sub-genre from things like WNL or the aforementioned Hatsukoi Zombie.

The main thing that makes me not bounce off of it like something like Nisekoi (which it pretty directly replaces) is that it seems to prioritize the humor (which is often good) over the "adolescent wish fulfillment."

Speaking of shounen romcoms without any fanservice, I think the series about the guy who attracts "bad girls" applies. And there's that other series about the guy who cross dresses, which holds the distinction of being the only genuinely good shounen romance manga.

She could have given the demon something related to her stomach for their contract. I don't think she outright gave it to the creature since you lose what they take though

It feels like the artist is getting better at making stuff you can visually parse but it still hasn't really grabbed me at all.

Same. Which is why last chapter was noteworthy.

This chapter however is significantly better.
Poor Ricchan. :ohdear: I feel you. :smith:
Fumino continues to impress me with her problem solving attitude.
Friend seems angry! First thought! Call Nariyuki and explain together!
Friend appears from underneath sheets with another girl! First thought, berate him and wait for an explanation.

So many series would be better with someone like her around.

Yeah, this is the one I was talking about. Always forget what it's called.

edit: One other interesting thing about that manga is that I think it is literally the only male-aimed manga I can think of that is fairly open-minded (for lack of a better description) about gender stuff. Though that's more of a depressing statement on how universally awful other primarily male-aimed manga are on the topic.

edit2: Out of curiosity I checked if the author has done anything else since that series, and apparently not? That's a huge shame, since it does so many things right that most other shounen romances do wrong.

In case it wasn't implied clearly enough, anyone in this thread who hasn't read the aforementioned "Ookami Shounen wa Kyou mo Uso o Kasaneru" should go read it if they even remotely like romance/comedy/drama manga. It's kinda a miracle that a shounen romance as well written/plotted as that even exists; most seem to just run indefinitely and stay predictable throughout (though to We Never Learn's credit, it's not clear who the protagonist is going to end up with in that series).

Eh I think it's more like the Zanpakuto from Bleach. We already have a character turning it into a gun and another into 2 maces. So there's plenty of stuff to do. We also have the whole, dress up like your hero thing in order to become stronger.

the gun guy just extends it doesn't he? it's the same thing but he holds it differently. estelle's maces are just her breaking the stick in two. bleach is a good comparison (like the gun is just gin) but bleach also threw out any kind of rules it had with bankai and a bunch of characters didn't even use zanpakuto in the first place

idk it's solid but I wouldn't really care if it was cancelled at this point. maybe it'll grow on me

I've caught up now.

The art is clean and easy to follow. The leads are pretty nice and somewhat relatable. Their relationship is sweet.
I like Estelle as well.

I have no idea if they're going to do something with the costumes though. I wonder why the gun guy is dressed like a clown?

Comparing the Nyobois to Zanpaktous seems apt so far.

But it still feels a little generic. I'll keep following it though, because it's an easy read.

I wonder kind of timeframe the Mangaka is working on. I think they mentioned the summer holidays, which makes me wonder if the summer holidays are going to be the time frame.

Honestly, I like that they do a more-or-less literal translation of the dialogue. It makes things even more crazy than they already are.
