If I’m running a Bad Moons big mek as a babysitter for my mek guns, would it be better to have one in mega armor with the KFF bubble, or instead a mek with SAG for more hitting power?

Question on sniper rifle wound allocation since I have mostly played AOS lately and thus have some lingering confusion from the minor differences between systems. In my game today my Ratlings shot at some CSMs. I hit and wounded once, rolling one 6 to wound. He failed his one save. The rules say it causes a mortal wound in addition to its normal damage. Should that be two wounds and thus two dead CSMs? Or was the mortal wound stacked on top of the first wound from a failed save? I think RAW, it should be two dead CSMs but we played it as one since logically the bullet should be head shooting one guy, not killing the guy next to him as well. Did we do that right? I didn’t see an FAQ on this but the wording and order did seem a bit confusing.

Mortal wounds apply to the unit and bleed over, controlled by the model-owning player. Edit: the confusion may be that multi-damage weapon values do not spill over, so a 3-damage hit would kill one CSM. PierreTheMime fucked around with this message at 21:03 on Jun 23, 2019 |

The influence Mars has on the fleet based Ot Neba chapter is unmistakable. It manifests itself in the fact that their archeotech rivals Fist Founding chapters, their affiliation with multiple forge worlds, and -most visibly- the plethora of techmarines that attend every company. Many companies boast a half dozen or more senior techmarines. Outside those ranks are dozens others who are subordinate to them, either awaiting the pilgrimage to Mars or assisting with less complex tasks. Techmarines are a fixture of every meaningful conversation and are not afraid to interject or contradict even the most powerful voices within the chapter. Their unique battle cry "01110010 01110100 01100110 01101101" (transcribed here, in person it sounds like a servitor throwing a gear) Is heard not only in combat but, incomprehensibly, whenever their technical expertise is consulted on an unorthodox use of technical equipment. Pictured are the two most senior members of the 4th company's allotment. Finished my second ever Forge World Model. I will likely revisit the axe blade in the future, I'm not happy with it.

Playing quickly and elegantly is a big advantage over how 8th is now. Hm, maybe? It took some getting used to in AOS for me. I think I like that hits only wound the thing they hit. I like there being a difference between multiple attacks or area attack versus a single big damaging attack. Maybe it would be faster if 40k was the same as AOS, and that might be a very good thing. Played game 1 of our escalation league, starting at 500 points. Mission was Four Pillars from CA 2018. Used my Scions against Black Legion. My List - Patrol Tempestor Prime with Command Rod, Power Sword, Relic for +1 orders, Old Grudges Warlord Trait. Scion CMD with banner, medic, vox, plasma gun. Scions x 5 with 2 x plasma, vox, Temperator with chain sword Scions x 5 with 2 x melta, vox, Tempestor with chainsword Scions x 5 with 2 x volley gun, vox, Tempestor with chainsword Ratlings Taurox Prime with Battlecannon, 2 autocannons, heavy This list is designed to grow 250 points each round, first into a Battalion, eventually into a Dropforce from Vigilus. I will be able to drop the Scions buffed up by the Prime and nuke something nasty. Sadly my ability to deep strike is limited at 500 points due to the small number of units. His list: Lord Discordant (LD) 2 x Venomcrawlers (VC) 5 x CSMs with auto cannon Ouch! 3 relatively big nasties for 500 points. My advantage is that he only has 1 troops units and only troops can score in Four Pillars. I figured I was in big trouble here as his big guys would be able to survive a ton of damage and then run me off the board. I figured my only chance was to kill his 1 unit of CSMs and keep at least 2 of my troop units alive to score objectives each turn. I also figured I could maybe focus fire and kill one or more of his big guys. I selected his Lord Discordant as my Old Grudges target since he was the Warlord, hoping to score a point off that. Setup: Terrain could have been better. Not much LOS blocking to hide my guys behind, and the objectives were just far enough from my terrain to make them a bit exposed. I won the roll, so he had to put his whole army down first. He put the CSMs on one flank to hold an objective, a Venomcrawler on a flank (he originally thought it could score an objective), and the LD and a VC in the center. I stacked my Volley Gun squad, CMD squad, and Prime on one somewhat protected objective, with the Taurox and Ratlings in support. I put the plasma squad on my other flank to try to grab the other objective. My melta squad went into reserve. He took the first turn and started advancing. I didn't realize that the big guys had decent shooting too! He didn't roll great, and only caused a few wounds to the Taurox and a few squads. During my turn, I moved my guys up to hold both objectives. I perhaps made my first big mistake here. I decided to put my plasma guys behind the wall protecting the objective. I thus missed out on their shooting, and I knew he would probably be able to charge them free of overwatch. My thought was to try to protect them from shooting, which I did, but they were still doomed. Maybe I could have strung them out a bit to hold the objective and still get a few shots on the VC. Oh well! For my shooting, I killed 1 CSMs with the Ratlings, although it should have been 2 as you fine folks pointed out a few posts up. I also did a little damage to his VC advancing with the LD. I scored 1 points for holding 2 objectives versus his 1. Turn 2 he killed the Ratlings with shooting and did so more damage to the other units, but still not too bad. He then charged in with his weak flank VC and killed the Plasma Scions as expected. His LD charged the Taurox, so I burned my last 2 CP on Vegeance for Cadia and Defensive Gunners. Did a little big of damage to it. His 2nd VC charged my Volly Gun squad but only killed a couple guys. On my turn, I ordered the remaining Volly Gun guys to back out of combat and shoot. The Taurox also pulled back. The other Scions huddled in the building to protect the objective. I was faced with a really hard choice on where to drop in my Melta squad. I debated having them come down to help deal with the badly damaged VC and slightly damaged LD. I also could have dropped them in his far corner which was empty, to hold an objective. I ended up dropping them behind his CSMs to try to finish them off and take his objective. They killed 2 Marines, not enough to dislodge him from the objective. I managed to kill the VC at least! We now had equal OBJs, but he killed more than I did and scored a point, making it 1-1. In his 3rd turn, his VC and LD shot at my Taurox and Scions. The Taurox exploded, and badly wounded my Prime, killed a bunch of my dudes, and slightly wounded his LD. Boom! His last 2 CSMs tried to shoot my Scions but didn't do much damage. He charged in the LD and wiped out my remaining Scions in the building, leaving my Prime with 1 wound as the last thing left on my side of the board. I responded by retreating the Prime behind the building. My Scions got into cover and meltagunned the last 2 CSMs. He scored Slay the Warlord and kill points for 2, Making it 1-3. The last couple turns I tried to hide my dudes and he moved his LD to take Linebreaker, while his last VC advanced back on my melta squad. I managed to also get Linebreaker and score the objective once, making the final score a loss for me at 3-5. It was a fun game, even with the debate about the sniper rifles and mortal wounds. I let him have that one even though I was fairly sure I was correct because I didn't want to ruin the game with a silly argument, plus the logic of a sniper hitting a vulnerable spot and killing a 2nd dude was a bit odd. Probably wouldn't have changed the course of the game, so no big deal. Not sure what I could have done better here. I know I forgot my various special abilities a few times. I think I was ok with my orders. If I had been able to focus my fire on his Warlord, that would have been best as it could have removed a big threat and gotten my Slay the Warlord. I have a plan for 750, 1000, 1250, and 1500. Might tweak it a bit, we shall see. Planning to go up to a Battalion next round, adding a Primaris Psyker, Ogryns, and a Taurox Prime with missile launcher. After that, it will be a Valkyrie (and the Specialist Detachment), bumping the squads up to 10, and then eventually some Bullgryns, a Leman Russ, and a few more characters. I don't for a second thing this will be super competitive, mostly basing this on things I have already bought or want to buy. I'd like to find room for an Assassin, but haven't bought any of those yet.

That one change would make stuff like melee dreads and battlecannon equivalents loving terrifying and useful against hordes. it'd probably be easier to just give lascannons and other anti-tank specialized weapons a rule that limits damage spillover. edit: at least easier than the various rules they keep putting in to make certain options less of a joke against hordes like battlecannons and warglaives. Could any US goons help me out? I've got a friend travelling over to the states soon, who's offered to pick things up for me, and I also want to pick up the new paint range without paying ten million New Zealand Bux. My original plan was just to get it shipped from the UK, but this way might be cheaper since it cuts out the shipping cost. Could you guys please share any good US based online stores that offer good discounts on citadel's paint ranges? I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

As a mediocre painter, the black contrast paint might be the best thing GW have ever put out. Though to be fair I'm using it for black leather so the slight washed out appearance is a bonus. But seriously, one quick and heavy coating is giving me something that i was struggling with for ages using the base+layer paints.
