I've been building bunch of lists, just not sure what suites Malakov best. I've also been running into issues with being 1 or 2 points away from getting a 3rd free solo and it drives me crazy.

Here are a few I've been looking at:

Doom Reavers
Infernal Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Hearts of Darkness (Khador) (CID)

!!! This army contains a pre-release entry.
!!! This army contains CID entries.

[Malakov 2] Kommander Andrei Malakov [+28]
- Victor [34]
Great Princess Regna Gravnoy [0(6)]
Kovnik Apprentice Kratikoff [4]
- Berserker [8]
Valin Hauke, The Fallen Knight [7]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [10]

I've also been looking at Feora3 to for making a gunline with grievers.

Infernal Gate [12]

In this list with Grievers with hermit -2 arm debuff, incite, and sevvy0 you can get to pow17 and the Judicator gets pretty nuts, too, but it doesn't have much board presence to secure zones. In this case, Holy Zealots kind of perform a similar role as grievers.

In either case, do you just role with the fact the list can get pretty high pow shooting, but may lose on scenario, or do you water down the shooting potential to get a unit of howlers or something else that'll stick around a while?

EDIT: I know I was mainly asking about guns, but I feel the doom reaver list makes a lot of sense and has clicked point wise way more than most lists I've tried to make with Malakov.https://conflictchamber.com/?cg201b_-1bgyf8onlOkRosopnf89nf89okou

The theme forces revamp has me more excited for the game than I have been in years.

Basically, all themes get 3 requisition points at 75pts that they can spend for free solos and stuff. No more building around the stupid "one solo per 25 pts of warjacks" crap. Should open up more themes (play beastheavy in a traditional infantry theme because you like th3 solos, for example).

As long as PP is smart and doesn’t let some factions take 6-8 pt options for free, this will be very good. I play Exalted and it’s bs that I easily get 5 or 6 pt models for free that are very good, while most factions can jazz st get 4 pt standard solos at best.

I’m also glad to see the huge change that allows more beasts and hacks in every list. It’ll add more variety to lists which is a huge improvement over where things are now.

I haven't been able to watch the keynote yet, but regarding the 3 free models just for playing 75pts, is that only if you play in a theme? I could see it being added at the faction level being benefitial to peolle not wanting to play in theme.

They're also going to be consolidating some themes together, so it's going to be a lot easier to make a list that you want.

Jay Larson posted on Facebook that they should drop in a few weeks after Oblivion box set drops at Gencon. There will be a period where you can select between old themes and new requisition themes until the big world tournament finishes up so they can use the legacy system that everyone has been prepping for. After that, the next WarRoom2 update will remove the legacy themes and go 100% into the requisition/revamped themes.

I’m so cautiously hopeful that it’s good, but I can’t help but be totally cynical about this one.

1. PPs support for their non-core WMH games in the long run historically has been terrible. (See: grind, ikrpg, level7, MonPoc - until recently).

2. The strength of WMH has never been the setting and lore in the way 40k has. Taking on 40k in that way seems like a bad decision.

3. The biggest complaint stores have about WMH is that the line is too big, too many skus to stock and doesn’t move like GWs products do. Making a new game with a new line seems like a grab for more skus to throw at game stores who already hate that they can’t order through normal distribution channels.

4. Where the gently caress is my L5R miniature wargame?

What do you mean by #2? I mean, it's not a strictly fantasy setting, but I'm not sure why you feel they're taking on 40k in the lore department. Humanity being scattered around the universe is the most unoriginal start to a sci-fi setting you could imagine.

I just wanna see more about Warcaster so I can see the aesthetic of the models.

It’s being called WM40k all over the social media groups. It’s almost impossible to not draw the comparison, even though it’ll have nothing to do with GW’s game.

The allure of 40k for a lot of the people is the rich lore of the setting. The game is middling at best and tournament balance is nonexistent without a fan-made set of houserules. WMH in comparison has okay lore that they do a horrible job of supporting, but very tightly written rules that favor tournament play well.

But stepping out of the IK setting to future time space fightin mans doesn’t strike me as a great idea given how many players they’ve lost to GW pulling its head out of its rear end a few years back.

I’d like liked to see a more modern or near-futuristic IK setting, or a post-infernal world reset maybe. Given what’s been shown so far, I’m not hyped for what I’ve seen yet.

I’m in wait and see mode on Riotquest. I suspect that people are only going to buy it for Eiyriss5 and Boomhowler2 and whatever they release over the next year because the rules will be janky and they’ll work in the new themes with some weird edge case interaction.

I'm curious how it will end up. I laugh about some warmachine decisions PP makes, but I liked company of iron and monpoc and like -most- of warmachine so it isn't impossible they could put out a game I'd be interested in. I know already that Boomhowler2 is going to greatly improve McBain in mercs, assuming he gets released as the ?preview? version I remember seeing.

Cool. Is there a place where they go into more detail about what it means mechanically when you Do A Thing so hard/well that you get sucked into Urcaen? Some canon about whether the Ascendants/Scions are real or just the Infernals doing soul-fuckery and Menoth is right etc.

Because the whole "Infernals come because a debt is owed thing" probably means Thamar lied about where magic came from and it's entirely plausible that as terrible as He is Menoth is also the only hope for a reasonably non-poo poo afterlife.

Not really. That's mostly just a GM fiat thing. I don't think there's anything to suggest that the gods aren't real and protecting souls in Urcaen though, considering we can see what happens with the Iosans when that fails (soulless kids).

Yeah it's strongly implied Thamar cut some really awful deal with Infernals to unlock human magic of the non-wilding/divine variety. It's also implied that the Skorne stole their magic from the infernals somehow.

Well given that Thamar's bargain is really real because the Infernals came back yesterday to claim 2/3 of the souls of humanity and loving angels are coming in to help the fight, I think the cosmology can be pretty well taken at face value.
