Grem posted:The two hosed up tiles really grind my gears They probably pass the whole group of tiles under a surface polisher once the paint dries to remove any paint that wasn't in a recessed area. This may be necessary to clean them up for packaging anyways and allows them to run the 2 axis painting setup a little faster/not spend as much on more accurate stepper motors.

It's interesting to me that they do it this way rather than a separate production line for each tile and then assembling sets. That machine seems super complicated.

The whole set might be on one runner straight out of the injection-molding. There might not be enough throughput to setup 34 different lines.

Its not that complicated. You only need two motors to move the print head around and two pumps to extrude paint at the right moments. Its pretty much the same as a plotter. You only need to program it right once and its doing everything by its own after that so it would be hella cheap to run.

If it helps anyone enjoy this gif more I believe these are maybe Amano Shrimp, I have them in an aquarium at home. They're peaceful and cool and chill and live in freshwater streams etc mostly in Asia. In the aquarium hobby they're used as a sort of cleanup crew, hopping/walking/swimming around the tank eating algae and leftover fish food/algae wafers. They also clean up dead plant matter and are basically great.
