If he talked about an american's bottom line going down but that technically yes taxes go up instead, I think it'd be a lot more persuasive. I'm no political analyst, though, just someone who believes in a message that has recently felt very stale and unable to adapt.

In that debate she came across as an empty conwoman. If she has some actual longstanding support of anti-imperialism and some actual concrete proposals I'd love to hear them, but otherwise she seems like the same sort of empty suit but with love instead of bipartisanship. I'm trying to check into her 2014 run to figure out who exactly she has been before this presidential bid, but if you got some information do share.

Technically yes but in a watered down way wherein he rattles off various costs of our current system. That doesn't resonate like "Yes, but they will pay less money overall and gain security for their families" to me. Do you or other posters here believe his messaging has been good? I think it's his biggest and glaring weakness because the ideas can win people over on their own. If he could sell them too? I'd be a happy man.

I know that it's going to shock you, but I totally agree, not making election reform and security a priority the second the Democrats retook control of the government was the biggest mistake they made. We'd already seen their cheating and underhanded bullshit fully displayed in 2000 (Florida) and 2004 (Ohio) where they flipped the result of the elections , I mean maybe they couldn't find a video of Kathrine Harris or Ken Blackwell changing votes in a data base but there was more than enough smoke to at least install some smoke alarms and sprinkler systems.

So I’ve been in the past threads as not loving Bernie. I’ll start by stating I was wrong about the book thing, and for that I apologize. I read a couple of hot takes on twitter and didn’t do research before bringing it here. Somebody asked me why I don’t like him, and last night I think it was covered perfectly. His policy’s are all things I generally agree with (minus that judge flub). But his delivery method bugs me. He yells too much, and just seems too old. Contrast that with Warren, who I like a great deal.

I also came out early liking Harris, and last night nailed why. She’s really loving good at debating and doing the politics of it. I want her to go after trump in a debate, because I think unlike Clinton she can get under his skin but also not lose her calm. I think he is more likely to blow a big gasket against her.

That being said, I totally get that she is a politician, and her being actually president won’t help the country nearly as much as if warren was president, or Bernie’s policies were in effect.

So it basically comes down to my fear that I think Harris is more electable, but I like warren more? (And If Bernie gets the nomination, I will vote for him).

Have you critically scrutinized your assumption that being high school debate club champion is synonymous with "electable"?

It was impossible to adequately respond to anything unless the moderators let you run with it, and they were never going to let Bernie run with anything without constantly interrupting.

He could have done better, but the problem was the format, which they did deliberately for reasons both of being able to shape the narrative as well as the ratings and sound bites chaos like that produces.

Gotta say after seeing the Republicans last couple cycles it’s rather refreshing that the most fringe “wacky” candidate on stage is actually pretty decent!

Republican debates get Santorum with his fetus in a jar, Ron Paul eliciting a “let them die!” chant, and Hermancain being Hermancain. Williamson is just an old time hippie with mostly good positions surrounded by some magic crystal bullshit.

Buden's problem is less that he opposed busing in 1977 and more that he won't say he was wrong noew. If you're a Democratic senator from Delaware in 1977, of course you were going to oppose busing. It was remarkably unpopular, especially with the .middle class suburban whites who made up Biden's base.

The thing is, when all this came out this year, if he had said something like, "Yes, I opposed busing in the late '70s. Even though I was never consciously racist and have always been against any form of racial discrimination, I, like so many other people, didn't realize at the time why busing was necessary to combat the kind of neighborhood and economic divisions that led to segregation in practice. I've come to realize over the years, though, that that was wrong, by listening to the stories of people who benefited from busing. You know, folks, that's the type of thing we need now. We spend so much time talking and so little time listening to each other, about what we need, how we feel, and how we can work together to make this country live up to the American Dream and reverse the damage that President Trump brought to this country."

Or, I dunno, something like that. I mean, this thread would still hate him, but I think it would have stopped a lot of the bleeding.

That's not what I'm looking for. Like what's her opinion on US support for Guaido in Venezuela? Did she actually involve herself in any way in anti-Iraq war demonstrations?

Here's her 2014 campaign website. From what I can gather from her actual 2014 run she opposed mass incarceration - and correctly identified private prisons as real mother fuckers. She supported free college, universal pre-k, and universal healthcare, which is actually good concrete poo poo that raises my opinion of her. She pushed for the repealing of the AUMF - that's the poo poo I actually want to hear.

I hope she gets a spot at the next debate and actually talks about this poo poo in concrete terms next time.

No it’s not, I hate this argument because it obscures the reality of why Trump is popular among the right wing. It’s not because he’s a meme, it’s because he’s a racist piece of poo poo who will be racist in public.

Williamson is not going to meme her way through the Democratic primary because she doesn’t have any kind of draw like Trump did with his racism to his base.
