Congrats on surrendering the only state apparatuses broadly accepted by publics across the western world to have a monopoly on the legitimate use of force to right-wing douchebags without even putting up a fight, I guess. I think fixing the police problem could be fairly easy First require officers to live in the communities they police. Increase pay to make open positions more competitive. Get more officers out of their cars and walking. Maybe if you know some dudes name you are less likely to merc them? I dunno, I could just be dumb.

Ok, so, hypothetical situation. Your boss is a racist, and he got his job from his boss, who is also racist. Neither of them will ever promote you because you aren't actively racist. You'll never get the opportunity to make things better from the inside because you're stuck walking the beat or whatever. The best you can do is not be a racist piece of poo poo on the calls you go out on, but that isn't enough to scratch the paint on the system itself. When your boss retires, he gets replaced by your racist overboss. How in this situation can you make change happen from within? This is nothing against you guys trying to make things better from the inside, but it seems like it is structurally designed to be impossible once things get as bad as they are.

Something I do get frustrated with is that I see people pointing towards capitalism as the root cause of society's ills, and that if we got rid of it all our problems would be solved, but... that's really not true. Yes, capitalism is significantly flawed and has done an immense amount to exacerbate the challenges we face today (including income inequality, climate change, racism, etc.) but it isn't the root cause. Every company in the US could become a worker-owned cooperative tomorrow and that wouldn't fix climate change or racism. These are complex issues with multifaceted causes and symptoms that need to be addressed on their own terms with the tools we have available.

Yes that is completely true, but we should start with everyone paying their fair share, and not let the rich/ruling class get away with all the bullshit they do now. Having rich/better off people isn't the end of the world (you're always gonna need doctors/scientists/specialists) but the vast accumulation of wealth that inst even spent is basically being a parasite that exploits people. We should be working towards empowering every citizen before generating more wealth for the group that already has all the wealth.

Sometimes it seems like a good idea to get rid of professional police for a jury like process where people are randomly selected to do stints.
