The OLP are putting on a People’s Picnic at Queen’s Park tomorrow to celebrate Canada Day. I’m surprised the ONDP didn’t do this.

I like the Canadian anthem, it has an optimism and hope to it that I like :unsmith: even when our country is being kind of a gently caress, its usually less of a gently caress than the global average.

I desperately wish we got more cultural crossover from our socialism loving nordic country brothers rather than that tire fire south of us :smith: We could bond over not seeing the sun for half the year and hard liquor

I know, I know... but they were in the media for a day or two after the cancellation announcement talking about what a shame it was etc that the PCs don’t value celebrating Canada. It just seems like the obvious step. The OLP had some 10 second sound bite on the topic and then they were silent until this announcement. Calling it the People’s Picnic is a good idea too.

It might be literally true that the ONDP has spent more time in the past six months talking about the price of Raptors tickets than about cuts to autism programs?

Marit Stiles has been hammering them pretty hard over the autism and education cuts but I haven't heard from literally anyone else in the party.

On one hand I've done a number of days of action on education cuts, higher education, and autism, so it seems to me they talk about those issues a lot.

OTOH I don't watch tv much or use social media besides Twitter so I have no idea what's the awareness among the general public..

e: those were provincially organized activities. Now we're more focused on the GND and healthcare items.

The NDP are depressing across the country.

They keep hitting me up for money in BC despite my continuing to tell them to go gently caress themselves until they change BCPSEA's mandate.

The NDP at every level has a remarkable talent for combining bad politics with bad policy.

I've always tended toward the view that there's too much accumulated branding, organizational capacity and electoral good will built up in the NDP to justify abandoning it and investing in a new party. As I get older I'm realizing that's mostly just me seeing what I want to see in a party that is beyond redemption. At this point the NDP increasingly seems like an obstacle to progressive politics, sucking up time and commitment from well intentioned people who want to change things and redirecting them toward a party that is equal parts bad policy and incompetent messaging.

That doesn't exactly reflect well on the party.

Also the more you actually look at the record of the NDP any time it forms government the less reason there is to trust how they would govern.
