What a crazy world that would be!!! Anyone have that meme where someone did some back-of-the-napkin math about the cost of daycare and what if we paid the daycare cost x classroom size to teachers and it comes out somewhere in the 150k range? It's dumb, but also good for slapping down poo poo like this.

at daycare rates, according to last year's enrollment my highschool would be hypothetically pulling in just shy of $3mil per month, split among 85 faculty that would be ~$416k per teacher annually

The cheapest, legal, private childcare you could get in NZ is a minimum wage babysitter looking after your 1.9 (NZ average) children. So if that money went directly to teachers instead it'd be $1341/day or $279k/year for the 200 days of school. And that's with my smaller than average class of 25 kids. I earn $54k/year. Even if you want to put the cost of property rental onto the teachers, that'd only knock $25k off my salary for an equivalent 60m2 office space.

Peanut President posted:considering that public education is clearly much cheaper than private libertarians would appear to be getting owned I think there’s a mix of conscious and unconscious reasoning for hatred of public education Part of it is just the hatred of taxes and seeing undesirables getting a no cost education, especially since the wealthy will just pay for their children to go to private school so why should they have to contribute at all I think they also have a conscious or unconscious need for people to “earn” their education so they want them to have to directly pay for it and even more likely go into debt for it. This also means those people are at a disadvantage and will be more subservient to the whims of capital and easier to squeeze

My smallish city failed to pass a small property tax so schools didnt have to cut programs. (Cause a similar vote passed 10 years ago and was going to lapse) Bunch of retired boomers out with signs for weeks NO NEW TAXES. And the debate turned into, if this was a "new" tax or continuing an "existing tax". And not if this was a thing to communally spend money on. You know. Kids education.it failed by literally 40 votes. Thanks boomers, gently caress the kids.

If the dems ever get back into power in the US why don't they just massively expand the defense budget and start implementing their social programs through that? Rebrand everything "social" or "state" to "military" or "defense". Bam, food stamps are gone. Now we're just expanding army rations to civilians in need, because how can the nation be strong if the population is hungry? Do away with federal/state housing projects, those are now civilian barracks. Free college tuition? Absolutely not, but funding for tertiary level intelligence, so the citizenry can contribute their diverse skills to defense of the nation? Definitely. And how can the nation be strong without a healthy population? Boom, military funding for civilians to use at hospitals everywhere. Don't like these changes? Respect are troops you traitor. Just loving lean right into your inevitable descent to fascism is what I'm saying.

Unfortunately you can't trust an imperialist military power to not be imperialist with its military power.
