Thanks for the bee game plugs! Games are supposed to arrive in port tomorrow. I got back from Origins pretty early today. I posted some feedback in the unoffical group. Figured I would post it here as well for those interested. It has it's problems, but overall it is a pretty good con and is the closest thing you can get to Gen Con that isn't Gen Con IMO. Has a lot in common with 1990s era Gen Con. Origins feedback thread! Danni Loe I don't know if there is an official place for feedback but I thought it would be good to start something here for people to talk about the good and bad of 2019. This was my 4th Origins and I had a great time! I arrived Wednesday afternoon and just due to the flight schedules I had to catch a 6am plane on Sunday (not at all ideal but not Origins' fault!). The Good - I feel like the effort to communicate online was much better this year than in past. Having someone from Origins actively participating in this unofficial group helped a lot IMO - The Tableau event calendar was nice, a lot easier to use that just downloading a spreadsheet all the time. I don't know if it was updated at the same pace but it seemed pretty close. I don't want the spreadsheet to go away, but a dynamic web based option for browsing is great. - Moving the registration to the far end worked well, at least space wise. Things felt much less congested in the middle of the convention center. As someone who pre-registered for my badge and event tickets the registration was super quick and easy as well. I didn't get any additional events, generics, or turn anything in while I was there. - I don't know if this was new or not, but this is the first time I noticed it. I love having the booth numbers on the carpet in front of all the booths so you could actually orient your location in the hall. I wish all cons would do this. - So glad something was worked out with Vallejo and Wizkids to do both the paint and take and the master classes. My group did 3 of the master classes (we also did one of the beholder ones last year) and loved it. I think there is some fine tuning to be done with master classes, since some of the figures were too large to finish even half way in the 2 hours but they were overall great and I hope they return next year. The indifferent - Wednesday is kind of a weird day IMO for Origins. Its great to get in, pick up your stuff, and get into your hotel, but it doesn't seem like there is a whole bunch else going on officially, which seems a little odd since Wednesday is an official con day for Origins. It doesn't need much, but maybe a few events would be nice. As is, it feels like I have a bunch more to do at Gen Con on Wednesday on my own where at Origins I need to just wait for friends to arrive and hope we can meet up. - I wish the unpub room received more promotion. I know it was scheduled late this year, but it felt less busy than last year and it wasn't terribly busy last year either. -This is more vendor specific, but needing a ticket for a Dune demo with Gale Force 9 was kind of weird. Me and the others I was with really just wanted to learn a couple turns of the game, and the 3 hours it was scheduled for wasn't long enough for a table of new players to finish anyway. It was just and odd way to handle showing off this new printing of the game. The Bad -There needs to be a better official parking solution for people traveling in and staying at hotels. I flew in, but the rest of my group, Sally and Helena, drove from Wisconsin. It wasn't clear what to do about parking, and were pointed to the official convention center option at the parking structure next to North Market. When we went to buy tickets the only options were daily passes with no in and out privileges. This was super obnoxious because it meant we had to move the car before midnight every night and then bring it back to the lot after midnight. This was pretty much the most inconvenient thing I've ever had to do at a con. A couple weeks after we bought our passes they added a multi-day pass only for exhibitors with in and out privileges, but it was more expensive than the combined price of the daily passes. What we really needed was a multiday pass with no in and out privileges, we just stayed on site the entire convention and not having something that accommodated that was frustrating. - Events in hall A starting at 10am or ending at 6pm. It was very stressful having events in that hall starting as soon as it opened and not being able to get into the hall until the start time. This also meant the event couldn't start close to 10, which was particularly bad for the 2 hour master paint classes that you needed every minute for. Similarly, having events ending there right at 6 was not great, again because you were rushed out, though this was more tolerable than the 10am start time problem. -The convention center seemed to be very poor about taking care of keeping their water coolers full. There also didn't seem to be many of them, and this just made it very difficult to stay hydrated. - The online registration system, especially for events needs work. It feels extremely dated and its clunky and inconvenient to use. I went and added on events about 4 times during pre-reg (mainly because the things I wanted to do kept getting added in later) and it was super weird to me that each time the system seemed incapable of calculating how much I owed correctly. The search interface is also pretty poor. My day job is as a librarian and I haven't seen something that clunky since the early 2000s. I also don't understand why the official system is hidden once prereg closes. I get you can't buy tickets, but you really do need to be able to see what is and isn't sold out for event planning purposes. This is standard for pretty much every con I go to, even the small ones (more and more of which seem to use Tabletop Events these days). -The paint and take was too small, didn't have enough hours, and was just kind of confusing. Its a great thing to have, but it doesn't have nearly enough space IMO, and it would be really nice if it went later into the evening and more on Wednesday just for more to do. Also, this may be standard, but having the set number of figures run out fairly early each day seemed odd. I know how it works now so I can plan better, but it seemed like a weird way to handle this type of event.

I just got back from Origins too! I pretty much played Pathfinder and Starfinder the entire Con, except for one Indie Games on Demand session on Friday. I had a blast, and got to take a few walks around the dealer hall, bought Century New World and Lanterns Dice, as well as a few Magic cards. They do have a problem with parking as Nesbit says, I stayed at a friend's parents' house with him, but there's not much parking downtown which is kinda weird for a large city. It definitely reminds me more of Gencon back in 2007 when I first started going, so much smaller. And North Market is always good. Oh yeah, their online event registration system is a loving tragedy. It needs to be taken out back and put down. When you search by day it wont even show you events that end at midnight or start before midnight, it's so bad.

I enjoyed Origins a lot, but I was in the board room/gaming library for 95% of it, so I didn't have to deal with the event registration system. It's really nice not having to deal with the pure volume of humanity that is GenCon. It was a bit annoying that the unpub room wasn't more noticeable, i didn't even know of its existence until I wandered by it on Saturday afternoon. The first exposure room at GenCon not only has better signage but ads throughout the con promoting it, if I remember correctly. Speaking of open gaming, is anyone interested in heavier gaming at GenCon? I'd love to get in a game of Food Chain Magnate or Sidereal Confluence, and I don't feel like paying the game library prices after $20 getting me 5 days of library access at Origins. Hoped to go to Origins, which as I mentioned in the GroupMe was my fatal mistake: I only get to go to Origins when I am not trying or, indeed, am actively disinterested in attending but somehow end up in Columbus at the same time as the show anyway. Heard it was ... ................ I listened to the Secret Cabal podcast Gen-Con episode from a few years ago, and it was fascinating to hear them talking about Origins as though everyone understood it was the better convention, and their recoiling in horror when one of the co-hosts was like "so anyway, Gen Con, which as a reminder is the objectively superior convention..." Honestly I should amend my catchphrase from "Gen-Con is too short to spend time playing games" to "if you want to spend all your time playing games at Gen-Con, go to Origins" Disclaimer: Do whatever the hell you want at whatever convention if you enjoy it, baby; I will high-five you all the same Ceebees posted:Anyone who uses the actual flavor names for gatorade is a cop.

This would be an opportunity for a couple of people to try the game out at different level than most non-serious players do. Send me a PM if you're interested.
