I thought the show was fine, but I hated two things in particular: It made no loving sense whatsoever for Carlton to go to a loving community college for a couple years before heading to Princeton. It was obviously done so his character was still around, but man, that always bugged me. I also hated that the college's mascot was a peacock. Such a stupid on the nose joke.

I remember the episode where Carlton OD's on speed because he thought they were vitamins, just for the whiplash tonal shift from where he's doing a frenzied Carlton Dance to him waking up in the hospital. I think the audience was still laughing when he passes out. Dude could just not catch a break on that show

DJ Jazzy Jeff is actually a really good producer and not just someone Uncle Phil threw out of the house all the time.

I remember one time I turned on the tv and was greeted by Will Smith looking directly into the camera and repeatedly screaming, with no context whatsoever. Here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVCUTt57en0 pretty much remains my best memory of the show

That emotional father breakdown really hit me hard when I was a kid because mine was the same way. Now I'm just like "goddamn Will, to hell with that loser, blood don't mean anything. Your real family is the people who treat you as such and the rest of them can go gently caress themselves forever"

It is kind of wild that the show ran until 1996, well after Will Smith was a megastar.

The episode where Uncle Phil turns out to have paid for Law School by being a pool shark and he wins back all of Will’s money is one of the best episodes of any TV show ever.

Best ep is when Uncle Phil tells a touching story about not getting the chance to apologize to a close friend he had a falling out with that later died. Carlton and Will smell bullshit and start poking holes in it and hes all "gently caress it I made the whole thing up, leave me alone I'm hitting the fridge!"

Laterite posted:It could be corny at times like any sitcom but it was always well written and the cast was solid. 100%, old aunt Viv would sometimes act like jerk and end up with her foot in her mouth in a self depreciating, funny way. New one was just a shrill bitch Phil had to tiptoe around.

such loving trash also Will Smith took the show because he owed the IRS like 3 million bucks and needed a steady paycheque to pay it off or else they'd have pulled a Wesley Snipes on his rear end.
