has Kaepernick worn out his welcome for anyone else? he's becoming the face of woke capitalism right before our eyes. if he were truly woke then he'd stay far away from Nike

that’s pretty much the case with almost every public figure with “good” views I can think of. America is so inherently class-blind and unable to even acknowledge the deficits and misery of capitalism that the only public type of wokeness is when people like Kaepernick associate themselves with companies that enslave children in the third world to serve identity politics in the first

I don’t mean that dismissively either obviously i despise all cops and American apartheid, but it’s notable how everyone involved in the football thing and every other celebrity cause stops short of actually critiquing capitalism or even American institutions. the absolute limit of our collective imagination is centrist, minute reforms to our hellish dystopia and people like Kaepernick reflect that. still glad he made all the chuds mad though

the "all good American public figures stop at critiquing capitalism" isn't necessarily true, though it is a very rare exception. i can think of MLK and Helen Keller off the top of my head

my actual first response to Kaep's protests was "well i'm glad he's doing it but it's not like he has anything to lose because he was godawful last season." and so it goes

there are better ways of doing both than collaborating with one of the world's worst abusers of sweatshops. if he's not willing to go after the root of the problem then he's just another wokelib

it is effectively true because the few anticapitalist public figures have had that element of their ideology completely, deliberately removed from the public consciousness. nobody knows about the poor people’s campaign or anything beyond Helen Keller’s disabilities. even genuinely radical public figures from the first half of the 20th century are forgotten, like Eugene Debs or non-socialist but semi anticapitalists like Huey Long

anticapitalist exponents can be remembered and even revered in terms of collective commemoration but only the parts of them that jive with the broader narratives of Liberalism

yeah that’s another critical part of sanitizing historical anti capitalists - pretending they weren’t hounded to the ends of the earth by conservatives, liberals, and all significant institutions

Why is the nike shoe bad? I hate all the politicians on both sides of this, but it seems like the american flag is just an american flag? Like 'Don't Tread on Me' is the war flag and tied to all the war on terror crap, but people print poo poo with that one let alone the american flag.

The betsy ross flag is used in a lot of right wing marches.
either way it was clearly a tactical decision, wouldnt be surprised if they have a vault of prototype shoes to announce and retract for brownie points.

Yeah it's an ecosystem of grifting. The libs grift off the woke brands and the chuds grift off the outrage. It's an endless series of self contained events perpetuated by hucksters to get people endlessly aggrieved and spending money/generating ad revenue

Nike itself is a symbol of American military dominance. They knew what they were doing naming themselves after the Roman goddess of victory.

Weed stores don't have to try to put out that image.

In Canada, at least, the people who would do that anyways have proven bad at the actually growing weed thing and incapable of hiring anyone who can (despite the fact that at any given time I have 1-3 roommates with experience running grow ops).
