Is this the thread where we talk about the new Periphery album? I know I'm months late but this is good E: Reptile honestly sounds to me like the thing 20+ years of metalcore has been trying to achieve. I like the whole record but drat, that song is something else. Fenrir fucked around with this message at 15:36 on Jul 14, 2019 |

It's a fan-drat-tastic song and while there might be some musicians that have better technical chops, Matt and Nolly provide a titanium-reinforced rhythm section for the Jake/Mark/Misha guitar three-piece to completely unchain themselves and for that beautiful/frightening/life-affirming voice belonging to one Spencer Sotelo to really soar. I love the record to bits and pieces, but goddamn I don't see them topping "Reptile". Then again, I didn't see Architects topping All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, but between "Death is not Defeat" and "Hereafter", Holy Hell did just that, so I enjoy getting pleasantly surprised.

Double post because we're not going to run out of posts, I asked Only a couple other posters ever mention these guys and I am probably their biggest enthusiast on here, but Obey the Brave (vocalist Alex Erian of Despised Icon and a bunch of revolving door people) released Balance on Friday. It's more or less what the singles indicated it would be - their least heavy of the four releases so far and every track except one has clean vocals on it. The record is really basic and the guitar tone is very nu-metal. I think the prior album, Mad Season, was about the most of their use of cleans I could be happy with, and I liked about half that record. I literally only like one song off Balance - "Reality Check", which rips and is the only old school sounding OTB song on there. Salvation was their best album, Young Blood a close second, then Mad Season and a distant fourth is Balance. These guys used to be one of my favorite bands, so the new sound is a bummer. Young Blood and Salvation walked the perfect line of hardcore and metal. e: they're becoming non-Chud ATR

I don't hate the new OtB but I was also never that huge into them beforehand. It's basically a less catchy Beartooth album. I think I have posted every new Knocked Loose thing for like three years now so uh here's another new Knocked Loose thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u84ky2dZsA8 Weaker than the last couple singles imo but still solid.

The good news is Despised Icon is alive and kicking and coming to my city this year, so as long as Alex Erian keeps that up, I'm happy. Also that Osiah album rips.
