For those with slowdowns there is apparently some ongoing issue where the stream client fucks with the cpu priorities & timings of Stellaris so running it outside steam has given some people massive massive performance increases.

I will have to try running it straight from the executable next time I get a chance to play. Hopefully that will fix things as I do want to finish the game I'm in.

You can’t use mods that way can you?

You can you just have to copy them across yourself instead of using the workshop. I forget the exact details.

I didn't notice a difference with running the client directly or through steam with steam overlay disabled, but disabling the overlay might have made a difference (at least I assume that's why I've disabled it???). Anyway, 2.3.3 is live. Some nice QOL fixes quote:* Increased alloy expansion budget to allow machine empires to do early expansion

Unexpected; figured it would be after the summer break that the next patch would be released. Will have to give this a shot instead, hopefully it's retroactive with the beta patch. I only use Tiny Outliner v2 so it's not like a missing mod would break the game but I'm also not too eager to start constatly scrolling through 40+ planets again to see what's going on, either.

I was really excited to see that you can steal relics, but it's not quite what I expected. 9% chance to steal a random relic upon capturing the capital planet with your troops. Barbaric Despoilers have a 13.6% chance. If you don't get it on the first try you need to let them recapture their capital, and then take it again.

You can just unpack the zip of the mod into a folder in the Stellaris mod folder (same one you'd put mods you make yourself, wiki should have the details). [so something like Mods/tinyOutliner]

The patch did indeed fix the horrid stuttering that plagued the beta patch. It's gone from almost unplayable to almost smooth as glass. Good job, team. (edit: still seeing an issue with pops not promoting to fill specialist jobs they're eligible for though) (double edit: I actually found the issue. with the lag earlier I must've accidentally set job priorities in both the Worker and Specialist categories so new pops weren't moving up). Oh wow the stutter is completely gone. Gj to whoever fixed that. It's still slow as heck, but my old pc may be the bigger problem there.

Does this work on old saves, too? I'm not sure if I want to continue my current run, but without the lag-improvements I'll definitely abandon it.

Yes, at least if you were on the 2.3.3 beta branch it seems to have no problems. I don't know if all the fixes are retroactive but the performance one at least is.

The hyperlanes fix for the Rubricator isn’t - I tested it. But I would imagine anything that doesn’t change the map should be.

I imagine anything that already exists on the map already wouldn't be changed but having it spawn again may fix it. In my current game (started in beta, now in the live branch) I also ran into the Rubricator system bug, but after loading an autosave and rerunning the project it spawned the system in a different location and with a hyperlane. This was during the beta period mind you but save scumming when the game spawned systems in inconvenient places always seemed to work in the past, so give it a shot here. If you're too far gone from that point you'll either have to live with it or restart, unfortunately. Psychotic Weasel fucked around with this message at 15:51 on Jul 12, 2019 |

Holy poo poo machines are so good now. I tried out an 'archivist' tech focused run on admiral using the 'Archive world' start from whichever mod (gulli's or something). I screwed it up bad it up because I didn't realise the minerals and energy you get at the start from your homeworld expire pretty fast and despite spending ages digging myself out of that hole I am still bounding out way ahead of the AI. The Khan just showed up (midgame set to the earliest date) and i'm already starting some repeateables and up to about 50k FP. I kind of absentmindedly started genociding a bunch of captured pops Matrix style and now all the galaxy hates me so I opened the L-Gates while most empires can only muster about 10k FP and now i'm just laughing my rear end off as the Khan and Grey Tempest just tear the Galaxy to shreds. The colonise anything is completely OP now after the habitability nerf.

Relic worlds are definitely worth keeping as is, right? That's a lot of research bonuses.
|
# ? Jul 12, 2019 16:00 |

The research bonus is nice but I can slap research labs on any planet in the game and eventually get the same output. It's the mountain of strategic resources you can get out of them that I find much more valuable. They allow you to industrialize far more of your other planets or outright just support turning something else into an encumenopolis.

# ? Jul 12, 2019 16:06 |

Yeah they're way better at research than anything else. You could maybe think about converting it if you're a gestalt, since they tend to crush tech anyway and can't build Ecus any other way.

Hello Thread! I bought Stellaris at 1.0 release, played through it a few times, gave it a thumbs down for its myriad issues on Steam and moved on to other games. Recently, I've decided I don't hate myself enough and gave it another shot, since it's apparently a great new game now with many things fixed. Another 40 hours wrapped up and the only differences I can feel are that sectors where righteously murdered, the planet tile system has been swapped/changed but I couldn't tell you why or how, and I think there's a lot of species rights things going on now? It's been a while you must forgive me. Basically, I'm Umm-ing and Ahh-ing about spending more time on the game, and am eyeing up the DLC, which comes to $176 NZD which is comical. I've heard about Crusader Kings 2, so I think I already know the answer but I'll ask anyways; Is there any chance of getting a compilation of the stuff, or should I just move along?
|
# ? Jul 12, 2019 18:03 |
|
No compilations, but the DLCs are largely optional (as in they add more things for you to play - if you don't want to play as robots, don't get Synthetic Dawn for example) and they're frequently on sale.

Is there a way to colonize Habitats entirely with Droids? I read somewhere that that's probably the most optimal way to use Habitats, due to the robots' low housing usage, and I need to start setting up strategic resource generators. Also, when I drop them on a resource deposit, should I ensure that the Habitat is attached to the celestial body that makes the resource? As in, a Habitat on a planet without minerals, but its moon has minerals, won't actually let me access the mineral districts because the Habitat isn't attached to the moon?

factions are pretty hosed up, despite having colonies up and running since 2207, factions did not pop up until 2218 and even then they didn't show up in the list nor give me influence or anything until I reloaded a few times which made them pop again and then finally 2220 they actually showed up. why the gently caress do I bother playing anything but gestalts? honestly? e: like I want to do my gimmick Intergalactic Google Empire where they worship The Algorithm and go psionic because it's the ultimate search engine optimization but there's always something whether it be factions like above or the influence drain of keeping a leader I want that just makes me feel hamstringed and frustrated with it Martout fucked around with this message at 22:10 on Jul 12, 2019 |

I think I found a fun bug with Archeology Sites and Science ships. If you have a ship start excavating a site, you can use Ctrl+Shift to prioritize other jobs for the ship to do. The excavation will continue, while you have the ship itself across the other side of the galaxy doing star surveys, anomalies, or special projects. winterwerefox fucked around with this message at 23:44 on Jul 12, 2019 |

So, I am able to replicate that scientist bug I found every time, its simply ctrl+shift and do something else after they touch the site. I got one scientist excavating 3 sites while scanning anomalies at the moment. Anyone playing unmodded want to see if they can replicate this?
