Whatever it is, prepare to have to make a new base again.

I believe they mentioned the UI would be redone for VR. Hopefully they do the same for the 2D game.

It may not have very good resources but one of my favorite planets to have a base on is a weirdass hexagonal biome planet.

In my experience, Sporal planets seem to have never ending perfect weather, and I don't think I've ran into one with aggressive sentinels either. Perfect candidates for chill-out bases IMO.

I wish you could have a proper base onboard your freighter. Having your base in orbit of planets and moons while you explore them would be choice.

Freighter base makes much more sense anyway, especially for a game that encourages exploration of a near infinite galaxy.

I wish it did make sense, like the larger your freighter, the farther it was to the edge where you could place windows. I also wish you could hollow it out. I want a castle with a moat inside my freighter. gek crew stacked 4 high in bunk beds so i could have a fountain in front of my spaceship castle

I could swear you can build a bunch of rooms with terminals up in the buildable area. Dunno if specialists can be up there but you can grow crops and plop in your own trading station.

So you can have a mobile production line, but not a very imaginative or pretty one.

Well I booted this up for the first time in two years and somehow my first fifteen minutes have been better and more fun than the thirty hours I spent on launch. Wowza. Anyway, I put everything on ultra and it's like 90% 60+ fps but with some occasional slowdowns. What's the most likely culprit? Running with Good GPU, Bad CPU.

I got to the part in the story where you find Artemis' crashed ship. It was on a threatening sentinel planet subject to constant firestorms. Also Gravintino Balls are all over the loving place. So of course I built a tiny cube of a base and in between firestorms I dash out, grab as many Gravitino Balls as I can, and dash back to my base. $$$$$$

In my experience this game leans on the CPU a lot, it's obviously doing a lot of procedural generation on the fly and I suspect it isn't especially well optimised. I'm using an i5-2500k running at 4.5ghz and that works well enough in most areas, but I ended up locking the frame rate at 30 just so it would be consistent.

Found a planet with one every 500-600 units and spent a couple hours digging 'em up for about 50 million total. The real money is in crafting, though. Do some of the intro base building quests until you get the blueprint for Circuit Boards, then set you up a farm for the ingredients and start rolling in the money. There's other, higher-level blueprints you can get, but Circuit Boards unlock super early and are really easy to farm ingredients for. Or just cheese it and take a portal to someone else's farm, but that just sucks all the fun out of it.

I bought the game again after not playing since launch (I was crazy for it at launch but haven’t played any of the updates). I’m following the story and enjoying it, but I’m kind of thrown by the pacing. Specifically, I’ve played for eight or so hours and the story doesn’t seem to want me to actually explore much, I’ve only been to three or four systems. If I gently caress off and look for some kool new planets, will I have to backtrack to quest objectives in the first few systems, or will things like holotowers spawn in the new systems? It seems weird to me that a game with trillions of planets wouldn’t encourage you to truck through space by making new quest objectives keep spawning in the next system over, keeping you moving.

I think you can reset most missions (some of the story ones can be finicky) to use local systems by clicking the right stick over them in the quest log. Looking forward to seeing what shape this beautiful mess of a game takes next.

That article also says that Hello were happy with the game after Next and basically considered it finished, which suggests that the third pillar for this is likely to just be some extra content/story. Anyone expecting this to ‘fix’ anything in the game is likely to be disappointed.

The radio silence has been deafening apparently the Australian classification doesn't really mean anything, games get classification approval months in advance, I think the example used in the Reddit thread referenced in the article was The Outer World's being certified last month, and that game doesn't officially release until October. Just gotta be patient, we might not get the update until late August or even September.
