I was going with the "lightning" aspect! Since in FF VI:

"It deals Lightning-elemental damage to one target with a spell power of 20 and Hit Rate of 150 at the cost of 20 MP"

Does the new format of crafting/gathering quests mean that it will be harder to level up the jobs that I don't do the job quests with? Previously you could get a good chunk of XP from doing job quests, but I guess you can only do that with the job you choose to do each "track" with now?

It was nice to realize that I apparently have all the jobs I need to do all the new job quests, since I have all the combat roles (DRK, SUM, NIN/DNC, SCH) and all crafters/gatherers at 70 (well, 72 in the case of DRK since I'm doing the MSQ with it).

Kinda, but the Crystarium mean quests give such huge chunks of EXP it basically means you will skyrocket ahead on one job if you focus entirely on one, and if you divide them up evenly (like do 2-3 turnins on each one) they'll come out pretty even. There are also some drat good leves this time around so I haven't had much issue leveling DoH.

The Crystalline Mean quests take the form of 6 item deliveries, so you can divvy them up between your various applicable DoHs/DoLs if you like.

Also bear in mind that it's okay for all the Crystarium Deliveries for a Facet to go to a singular job, especially ones with time-intensive crafts (WVR) and time-intensive mats (LTW, ALC, GSM). Don't forget weekly Custom Deliveries in HW and SB. If you use HQ turn-ins for multi-delivery leves, you should be able to level everything from 70-80 with 30ish leves left.

Solitair posted:

Interrupt when the cast bar flashes (or when the WHM is dropping Holy), stun when it doesn't and the spell is impactful.

A few Revised XP manuals would be good. If you take the aforementioned advice about leves and deliveries, you may not need more than the ones you get thru the Crystarium Facet deliveries (think it's 9 total). Other than that I'd recommend capping them before the patch in a couple weeks, since we might get new crafted gear at that time.

Nah you just change what main hand weapon you have. Like you'd get given a beat-up frying pan and if you equip that you're now a CULo. You put your spear back on to become a Lancer. (Later you get another item to equip but that's for combat classes.)

You can level them all to 80. Only limits I can think of offhand are which ones you set Specialist (unlocks way later, can have 3 at a time) and Desynthesis (can cap with 3 classes or spread the points across more).

You can change Jobs at any time as long as you’re not in a dungeon or raid. You can level everything.

Yeah, you can change back and forth to them any time just like combat classes. You play them basically the same way you play anything else, except you can't fight - I've got more skills on my bars as Miner than as Dragoon. Instead you go around collecting things from gathering nodes, making collectibles, crafting, whatever.

Specifically, your Job is 100% tied to the weapon you currently have equipped (and Soul Gem after level 30). When you are equipping a lance you are a Lancer. When you equip a needle you are a Weaver. You change back to Lancer by re-equipping your lance. You save a separate level for each Job. You can think of it as your skill level with a weapon type, rather than a general character level.

Functionally, you save a gearset for each Job and switch using that.

The problem is, you can't reasonably have Fire 2 upgrade into Flare because of Flare's increased cast time and MP requirements - what if you want to deal aoe damage at range without emptying your mana pool? - and the mirrored Fire/Blizzard spells are part of the artistry of the job's design.

Is there a way to transfer items to and from your retainers' inventory in one click?

Relatedly, does the inventory bloat from gathering and crafting jobs ever get better? HQ items taking a second inventory slot rather than stacking with their NQ version is particularly jank and annoying.

You never want to do that. I'm pretty sure Flare is immediately superior to Fire 2 the second you get it.

Also the FC I joined has all sorts of great support for crafting so I'm quickly getting all my jobs up to 20 (Had Weaver and Goldsmith already there, I actually enjoy leveling those)

What is the path of leveling once you get around 20? Do I have to start looking up lists of leves? Do I just go down the crafting list one by one still? Do I have to start buying stuff from the market boards?

While it is 100% true that Fire 2 is obsolete, I do think it'd be weird for a spell that doesn't cost all your MP to upgrade into one that does. That just feels weird.

I don't think the "artistry" of the situation is enough justification to leave completely useless spells on our bars though. And it's not like Thunder 1 and Thunder 2 don't get upgraded anyway; what happened to the 3-sided symmetry we had before that?

The worst thing about the new quests is we're back to using real materials.

Anyway, do them on GSM and WVR. Both have truly awful leves and crafts and you'll want all the easy exp on then you can get. Out of Cul/Alc I found Cul more annoying to level, but both were still so easy that I unintentionally left their questline at the level 75 step.

I haven't seen a bunch of the 50/60 dungeons in years since I don't run that roulette.

berenzen

Depends on the dungeon. MSQ dungeons are more likely to be rolled so Cutters Cry, Dzamael Darkhold and Aurum Vale are less likely to have people running them, as people are less likely to have them unlocked. Additionally, people at level 80 are pulling out of a pool of like 30 dungeons at this point for the levelling dungeon roulette, so it's not out of the question for someone to not be used to playing a certain dungeon, especially if they're not ldr on a daily basis.

And yeah, if it's 50/60/70 dungeon roulette, that number is closer to like 40. And it's not as commonly run as a roulette.
