I feel like this is as good of a thread as any to post about it. A friend of mine just got an email from a former landlord / apartment company from a place she lived 3 years ago saying she owes a $490 cleaning/utilities bill. She asked to see the lease (she didnt keep a copy of it) that says this is okay, and they said she would have to pay extra to see her lease. This sounds... very illegal!

It's legal to sue somebody and refuse to show them the evidence you claim to have unless it goes to court (common with copyright trolls who sue the people paying for IPs that torrent porn), so yay America, sounds completely legal.

It’s kind of backwards but I recently moved into a run down dirty lovely old apartment and all I could think was fucken a, not gonna have to do poo poo when I leave.

july is almost over and it is gonna be 105f/40c here over the weekend and the air conditioning units still arent installed in our building. im going to have to keep my dogs locked in the bedroom with the window unit or they'll die lmao. my downstairs neighbor has pneumonia. hopefully she and her 90 year old mom hold up ok. we moved here because they allowed dogs and central air was advertised. owned

The place is brand new and they already have mold growing in their bathroom, which is directly below ours. the landlords were supposed to look into it but havent best I can tell. so yeah, an old lady with pneumonia taking care of her even older mother may spur them to action, but who knows. they're claiming it is an issue with the contractor having the permit to put it in and they cant let someone else work under the permit. it has been a long time since I worked construction and I dont know dick about the permitting process in my state. I'd like to think she's telling the truth but she's a rent seeker whose sole source of income is from renting places, so...

That's not a fuckin permanent installation, why the hell would you need a license. While I'm here: in some Better News about landlords, my class action lawsuit against Steve Croman (public enemy #2 or #3 behind JKush here) has been certified in the court and we're going to depose his dumb rear end and serve discovery in as broad a fashion as legally allowed, as soon as possible. what's sad and frustrating is that the best outcome is no-interest refund of rent overages and an adjusted lease with regulation for all tenants involved. No damages whatsoever.
