First round with the new slightly bigger version of the grip I've used the last 2 years and 100% carbon copy Justin Rose claw grip I had only 30 putts and overall just putted so much better than my last round where I had 5 3 putt bogeys and something like 37 putts. Bad news was I was just slightly off on a lot of my approaches and ended up only hitting 2 greens for the day as opposed to the other round where I hit 11. :shobon:

Nothing feels better than small putting adjustments clearing up issues, though. I can have a lovely driver going and just hit 3 wood/driving iron but when the putting sucks, you just have to take it for the whole loving round.

My next round is a scramble on Monday with 3 unknowns as partners on a course that sets up in a way to screw me with left to right dog legs on the majority of holes. I can hit my driver straight, draw, flat pull, or, when absolutely the worst choice, an unplanned push/fade. Fingers crossed.

Keep in mind that if you hit fewer greens, you’ll generally have fewer putts anyway since a chip will get you much closer to the hole on average than an approach shot with an iron or wedge. That’s why the “number of putts” stat by itself doesn’t tell the whole story.

Had another similar round at a pretty easy course where I was just slightly off on approaches but my putter was pretty hot again and only had 30 putts with 6 par saves. Only real bad hole was a triple where I forgot how to swing a club for 10 minutes and chunked a hybrid into the trees off the tee 30 yards or so to start the hole. Ended up carding an 84 that could have easily been better with a couple tidier shots. Also got my cap down to 15 when at this time last year I was a 27 or so.

Looking at getting back into golf after not playing in about 15 years. I never really had my own clubs and going to be building a bag from scratch.

A buddy, who does play a lot of golf, told me about the Cobra One-Length iron sets. It looks like they just came out with the R9's and new R8's can be had for cheaper than used R8's.

Seems like relearning one swing for a lot of clubs could be a good thing for me in my position. Does anyone here use the one-lengths? Are you happy with them?

Not going to lie, I love technology stuff and the cobra connect system looks really neat too.

Try it first. It's not "easier" to hit one length, it's different, because it's still not one swing. But, it does work for a lot of people who try them. IF you have a PGA store near you, you can try that sort of thing in one of their bays.

So, had a charity scramble today. First, got 2 hours sleep (the boy was sick and in and out of our bed all night). Second, clear, sunny, humid day. Third, I play this course once a year for this tournament. But...had a good to very good ball striking day, and an excellent putting day. We only had 3 players, so we also had a rotating player hitting a second shot on each shot, so we were really set for a low score. We shot even par. One of the others was a decent shot off the tee and a decent putter with good course knowledge, but could not hit an approach to save his life. The third we used literally 2 shots, the 2 required tee shots (one per side). He hit irons off every tee and could only get about 170 on his best shot. We used his tee shot on a par 5 that is an easy birdie hole but, with 170 from the tee, we had 175 approach for our 3d since we didn't make the dogleg for the approach so it was over trees. We never used any of his putts, and he never showed us a line. It was amazing he paid $225 to play. 4 birdies, 4 bogeys.

Define a few rounds. I’m a sweaty motherfucker and I still usually get a couple months out of a glove in the summer so 15-20 rounds on the low end. I don’t buy cheap gloves anymore though.

Grip and grips surely make a difference in wear I would think.

I buy the costco packs of Callaway gloves, and i probably get five or six rounds before one becomes my range glove and i rotate through them like that. I am definitely due for some new clubs and grips 15years+. drat, it's time. I made a pact with myself that I could get new clubs, proper fitting and all when I break break 8 over for 18 on a decent course.

I guess I'm looking for a miracle glove that lasts like 6 months or something.

Grips are something that definitely get overlooked. I usually replace my grips every other year, they do wear out, especially if you don’t clean them. If you’re cleaning your grips fairly often they can last a long time. Treat them like you’d treat your car tires but you also have to wash the tread.

My grips are pretty much shot, and filthy, and I feel like my glove hand doesn’t grip as well to the club anymore so I’m sure that’s a part of it.

The human body is gross plus you’re picking up dirt and debris from the ball and your dirty towel every time you play so that doesn’t help.

I swear by these:

I play at least once a week and I had 1 pair last me from February 2018 until June this year. I only changed it because the velcro wasn't as strong.

Been using New Decade grips for a long time. One of the other members at my club showed me the Tour Wrap grips he just bought and I quit like them. Anyone use those?

MG Dynagrip Elite are the only gloves I buy, they last a few weeks of playing every day for me.

I need to regrip most of my clubs but I still haven’t decided whether I’m going to extend them at the same time or not. I’ll probably hold off until the fall because I’ve been playing really well for the past month and don’t want to change anything and mess it up. I had 6 pars and 3 birdies in my league last night which will move me from a 0 to a +1 handicap in that league.

I have these Callaway Lamkin grips on my clubs

Mostly because they looking loving sick on my black Nike RZN Vapor Fly Pro clubs lol

But they really are nice grips. I read somewhere that you should re-grip your clubs after about 30-40 rounds which works out to once a year for me.

I just load up on Callaway Dawn Patrol gloves when possible as they seem to be the best value going. They used to be $12.99 but even at $15.99 now are still ok, and I'll get about 6-8 sweaty rounds out of them. You can also get them on Amzn for $12.29 each right now. The cheaper synthetic gloves get all slimy and the more expensive gloves aren't really worth it. I also practice/warm up with the cheapo synthetic gloves so the Dawn Patrol's last longer. Also, I like having some Rain gloves available for the worst parts of summer, even if you are only using one of them.

I've been hooked on GP New Decade MC's in white/black like Phil for as long as they've been produced (10 years?). They work in both winter and summer, with part cord and look cool bro. My NorCal "winter" is like 55 degrees though. I used to go for full corded grips back 20+ years ago and man, those things were harsh during even in our wimpy "winter." Don't miss them. Grips definitely age like any other rubber product so if it's been 3+ years despite "number of rounds" they are toast.

OK this gets its own post.

So a few years back, the betting pool for majors was either the $25 or a dozen balls. I won on one of them (think it may have been Spieth winning the US Open at Chambers Bay) and one of you wonderful goobers, I want to say ensGDT? didn't just send me a dozen balls, but included some garish orange Duck Dynasty branded Srixons, and they arrived right before I went to scotland.

I'm back here again this year and because I am Bad At Golf, I sent a ball screaming off into the Moray Firth. I dug into my bag for another and OH HEY LOOK WHAT I FOUND

Drank 4 bottles of water over 9 holes, had 3 beers and a giant glass of ice water after with some sushi after (my local muni has a Japanese restaurant attached) and have peed once in the 4 hours since. And even playing in the swamp rear end conditions today I didn’t feel the need for a glove at all. Gloves in the past have given me blister issues because of the seams and how they fit my hands so I’m glad I’m able to play without one now.

In regards to the 'one length Irons'... I can't help but feel that's another gimmicky fix that's going to go by the wayside in 2 years.
Does no one else see that?
Even the clubs themselves seem suited for "oh you can totally swing it forever this way" but they're all fat-faced and weighted goofy so you can open-face flop them out of poo poo. Let's not kid ourselves. That's what you're gonna do. You're gonna do it. And then you're going to want some stronger stick to 'pierce the short grass that you're laying into' (i.e. you're laying up short in the fairway and you need a loving 3 iron).

Does no one else see this?
