I remember very clearly from the earliest interviews that the plan was always for the Robot Uprising of the Parks was always meant to be the preamble to the actual story that they wanted to tell. Originally it was supposed to be just the first season and honestly the first season could have just been 15 episodes and combined all the basic plot points into one season and it would have been fine.

Edit: or honestly just skip S2 because literally nothing of consequence happened

I mean of course they're gonna say that cause they have more seasons of content to create and get paid for. Just like in BSG they "had a plan" (they didn't), Game of Thrones showrunners "knew from season 3" that the story they were telling would take exactly 73 (or whatever it was) episodes, etc.

The reason WW s1 worked so well was that ... well, let's say you're at the end of time and are chronicling the greatest, most significant events in the universe's history. Ok, the big bang, sure. Matter coalescing and the creation of stars, planets, galaxies. The first life. The first self-aware intelligent life. The first artificial, created self-aware intelligent life. Colonisation of other planets, the first encounter between alien intelligences, and probably "immortality" (uploading organic consciousness into computers or w/e). Those are the universe's milestones. Season 1 covered one of those, that season was about one of the very few greatest moments in the history of the universe. Season 2+ are just, "and then". I guess if they want to be ambitious the show can also go for that immorality moment, have human and AI consciousnesses uploaded into ships to explore the universe or something and that would be cool but would also be a very different show that I can't even think of a good way to execute.

This show should have been a miniseries.

Can you imagine how good S2 could have been (aside from First Nations guy episode, which rocked) if the robots were loving Velociraptor-like killing machines that hosed poo poo up instead of the smouldering tire fire that we got

Or the mercenaries were actually halfway competent and there was some genuine tension in the battle over Westworld? That would have been loving rad. But alas, Joy/Nolan have to prove how clever they are

All of you Westworld fans are probably exactly like me with Star Trek: Discovery.

Endlessly hoping for the best, impressed as hell with the talent and love put into the production, ultimately disappointed and disheartened by the results. All because the writers - really, the executive producers - are loving terrible.

Jonathan Nolan is the opposite of terrible. Season 2 of Westworld is the first thing he fell short on when he had any real control.

The previous trailer got my hopes up for perhaps a more focused story and change in tone or something, but this shot them back down. It's too much, it's all over the place. Maybe they'll prove me wrong but I'm fully expecting more of season 2 level shlocky writing as a vehicle for a bunch of cool setpieces.

Occupationworld (Resistanceworld?) would be the opposite of Edo/Raj/Westworld in terms of narratives and layout. Westworld especially is large and sparse, a city under german occupation would have to be small and dense (otherwise what is the point). There was a fair bit of talk about control in season 1, keeping guests apart etc, lumping them all together into a tight space would be a good way to create chaos, i.e. costs.

Ofc WW2 era europe is a great canvas for adventure with well defined villains in the Germans. If there ever were a killbot park ever made I could see this one being the first. Killing WW2 era Germans is very very popular.

The only thing he had a hand in that was universally reviled as bad is Terminator Salvation, and he just had early writing credits that were overwritten by Bale and other writers later. Some people don't like Dark Knight Rises, but others love it (the difference seems to be expectations brought into the movie), so that's, at worst, a mixed bag. Out of the rest, what garners a "lol" response?

Batman Begins

The Prestige...isn't great? Wha...what? I don't think I've ever heard anyone who didn't think that was near Nolan's best movie with many saying that or Memento are the best. What didn't you like about it?

edit: One thing that people love about it is part of what's liked about Westworld's first season; the twists are completely organic to the plot and interwoven with the narrative to the point they are immediately apparent on a second viewing. Stuff like how Bale subtly plays differences to the point you can easily tell who is who on a second viewing is part of how well that was thought out (as opposed to on the fly stuff like Westworld S2).

That trailer actually dampened my expectations rather than raising them. Significantly less cool cyberpunk, about a billion things going on, which you know they have to squeeze into like 10 episodes or whatever. A billion previous series cameos. Doesn't look cohesive whatsoever. Hope I'm wrong and there's actually some solid narrative rather than just a hodge-podge of cool-looking unexamined ideas, but it looks like they're geared up to replicate the exact same mistakes of S2 honestly.

Yeah, I feel the same. The future cyberpunk thing seems really interesting, but I have zero interest in yet another historical park storyline. It makes me feel like this will be far more derivative of the previous seasons than I'd hoped and implies they don't have any better ideas for what to do with the show than just have people running round a robot theme park.
