Jeff Skinner has a really bad contract but we’re a cap team and I’m ok with a few big contracts.

He’ll either anchor our second line, or provide a hell of a boost to the first line with Sid.

Jordan, you will definitely have to conserve cap moving forward but that is a filthy first four picks. That first line is gonna be impossible to play against.

I might regret not going for a defenseman here but there's a winger available who's a year removed from 85 pts, just had a "down year" of 66 pts and could easily hit 75-80 again. His contract likely scares people away but I think his cap hit isn't bad and he's still just 29 so his deal takes him to his age 33 season, which also isn't bad. He clearly seems to be the best forward available and could certainly rebound and be a legit elite point producer, and even if he doesn't and stays a 65 pt player, that's also excellent.

The Devils select Jakub Voracek.

I wanted Skinner but I couldn't justify the contract. I got antsy over what would have been $38 million into my top-five picks.

This is who I debated taking over Voracek and I probably should have to secure a first pairing D since there probably won't be any left in 27 more picks, but Voracek was too good to pass up.

No. The last pick was at 10:15 AM PST. Your forum clock settings seem to be an hour off.

I can't say no to those points even though the cap hit and length is a bit scary. Oh well, Lucic has taught us that any contract can be traded.

Just about every D I would take over a forward has been targeted, and I can't resist waiting until a little later for the back end with so many promising forwards still on the boards. I've got my 1C/2C sorted (more or less, depending on who falls to later rounds), but I can't resist shoring up the wings.

With that in mind the Vancouver Canucks are going to select Rickard Rakell. At 26 he has two 30 goal seasons under his belt already, at 3.789 he's a decent cap hit for his production, and while he didn't break 20 goals (in 69 games) last season, I think he can bounce back.

Give me my boy Jeff Petry. He's a legit top pairing RHD, something that I can't pass up on with all these D that are being taken right now.

I hoped he had been totally forgotten. After Voracek and Trouba he was my next pick. I love Rakell. He also quietly averages 19m per game. A legit first line forward.

Ehlers and Ekholm were the two players I wanted next. They both have great contracts but Ekholm's deal is just ridiculous value (for his team).

Thought about Stastny but he's 33, coming off an injury, and I don't think he's likely to keep producing
