Can we agree then that supporting the Iraq War is recent enough to stain someone’s record? And that goes for hiring people who supported the war? Or is foreign policy a place where we forgive more easily than health policy?

Not when it contradicts the principles of scientific atheism no However, if 99% of the people were on board with crystals, I suppose we can setup a state owned crystal production company which provides them at reasonable price to the healthcare system. But this would be a temporary compromise until we promote education so that people realize their fates are best left to the fate of trained doctors and not charlatans.

redneck nazgul posted:there are not enough white progressives and white moderates (that lean democratic) to beat Trump. So, the minority vote is of paramount importance and I’m skeptical they will rally around Bernie or Elizabeth … but I could be wrong about that. I’m a big fan of Warren as a presidential candidate, and Bernie for his contribution to the progressive movement. If I could wave a magic wand, it would be Warren elected as prez and Cory Booker as VP. To get Trump out of office it MIGHT … I repeat MIGHT … have to be Biden due to the average Joe (no pun intended) and Josephine who are not political junkies like us and want a “comfortable” candidate. Again, it’s good to vigorously debate this, and Biden very well could fade going into the final turn. After the next debate we’ll be down to maybe five or six viable candidates, and your two will make the final cut I’m sure. I can see that, but Joe Biden put us in this situation in the first place so it feels dishonest to me. He's been at this for so long and you'd have to think that if he had half a century of politicking, why now of all time. It seems like an admission that he's made mistakes, and I feel like the luxury of time that we have taken for granted for so long at the behest of people who died for it is just out and we don't have time to see Grandpa Patriarch Joe have a struggle sesh in the white house performatively because he has had the fortune and the luxury to do so while people don't, and have been beyond out of time to prop up such a struggle sesh. I've never written in before, but he pretty much encourages that on principle alone because not is he just a class enemy, the dynamism that allows him to minimize women is abhorrent to me and just dishonest and I will not allow justification of "thats how politics works" because no, those terms shouldn't be dictated and set as the standard any more. I think the problem with id pol is that it backfires spectacularly because its so malleable and can be used without context to be weaponized to extremes so focusing on what is needed. He will not beat trump by morality tone policing as he has done, because he comes off as extremely condescending and tone deaf and his economic platform is ill thought out and left to be desired, and even if he parrots a progressive talking point, it'd be disingenuous because people have already hammered him on flip-flopping and will continue to do so. The working class does not identify with a delawarean corpocrat~ To get the minority vote, on which the majority are working class, you need to focus from a class perspective that enriches and invests in their communities, from an intersectional framework. That is where the appeal is, Americans care about money more than anything if you tout capitalism and they know that you're loving with them and taking their money. Everything else is just a waste of time and a fantasy of privileged daydreaming that doesn't get the bills paid on time. The only comfortable people are with Joe Biden are a subset of a demographic that have the luxury and time to dismiss his flaws. Lastgirl fucked around with this message at 21:41 on Jul 25, 2019 |

I’m completely OK with the idea that bad policy positions in the 1990s is enough to say someone shouldn’t be the president. I think it applies equally to supporting Republicans as to other bad positions. I don’t think supporting Republicans during the 1990s is somehow justifiable but yet other positions in the 90s are not.

How is supporting the Republicans during the AIDSs crisis not worse than peddling false hope? Imagine hearing the Republicans laughing about the “gay plague” and still remaining a supporter of the party. And incredibly, never ever apologizing for it. Never even letting it enter your mind as part of the excuse for when you do leave. Not even a single mention.

mormonpartyboat posted:it depends on what and why and so on it appears that people have misunderstood which is great, because it just goes to show that capitalism deals in ultimates. So if you socialize healthcare, and if people have personal beliefs about treatment, how do you address that and its very easy to just go "ok, you can take this shot, but if you want your crystal nearby, thats fine." but then there will be people who are insistent that their crystal is the only healing source, so as long as universal healthcare is readily available, its their choice if they want to come around to it. Some of them are genuine in their belief systems so saying that they're being conned is telling that they don't have agency in how they want to live or die. It doesn't matter as long as there is an actual universal healthcare system that supports people so they choose to use it, because its there and ready. Its the same disingenuous shtick that republicans moan and wail about how healthcare is slavery and it will force us all. That will be something that will come up in the future debates, most likely when M4A comes to pass. Which would be a far better debate to be had than just deciding that people live or die because they're too poor to "have access" to an obvious resource that is a right since again, we live in abundance.

Same with the exploiter Williamson. when i look at things like this, i tend to look at it as cost/benefit. what is the cost? well, some dying people looked at a world that mocked them for being sick and gay, so they spent like $20 on a book to feel better. what is the benefit? they felt better as they died it's definitely not ideal, but when i look at all the layers of exploitation used to build up the primary candidates, i can't get too mad about "she took money from people while letting them find peace as they died" when there are multiple candidates who actively arrested and killed innocent black people just so they could say they were tough on crime in local politics. biden actively campaigned to refuse gay people access to the military in 1993, before DADT. the democratic party at large didn't put even gay marriage in the party platform until 2012. in that same year, warren said that treating a trans prisoner's dysphoria with surgery wasn't a good use of taxpayer money, because, well, treating trans people like human beings might cause a hit in the polls. saying she exploiting people without leaving anything more than a warm fuzzy is, if anything, an argument that she's near the top of the list when it comes to exploitation, because that's just how loving terrible the democratic stable is
