Seconding this, Amazon has become (almost) uniquely terrible and it's all the more worrying for how big they are and how much reach they have.

My Kindle library is a mess of Amazon purchases, stuff I e-mailed to my Kindle (which show up in the cloud) and stuff a sideloaded (which don't). When I get my new one can I just copy a folder from one Kindle to the other as long as the account is the same or is it more complicated than that? Related, are collections I made on the Kindle reflected in the cloud and if not can I copy those over too?

Amazon has literally created a new holiday because of Prime Days. I know “Black Friday in July” has been a sales gimmick for decades, but only Amazon has the raw influence to really codify it into the calendar. Prime Day is the closest thing to Black Friday in July, and you see every retailer, online or physical, setting up their own big two-day sales to try and compete.

I've got a $40 ebay gift certificate expiring soon and a horrifically lengthy series of business flights happening around the same time. What would be the best ereader if most of my library is epub on Google Books, with the occasional PDF thrown in? Should I just ditch the Google Books I've uploaded and settle for a used Paperwhite? I'm fine with throwing a little bit of cash towards the endeavor, but the closer to that $40, the better.

Kindle Paperwhite, current or last gen, preferably open box direct from Amazon

That was what I was originally going to get, but the Boox devices run Android, render PDFs quickly, and allow annotation. The big thing is Google Drive integration, which would mean I'd have access to my entire library without any additional steps anywhere. What I'm trying to decide is if I want portability (Nova) or ergonomics (Note).

I still have my old release day voyage, but I think it is time to skip to this new oasis. The deals amazon offers on trade-ins seem pretty aggressive. A flat 25% off plus another $50 credit for the voyage seems like a pretty good deal. I am thinking no special offers, wi-fi only, and 32 gb. Granted, I am sure I don't really need the 32 gb. 8 gb is still a lot of book.

Do people like the cellular versions? I feel like I always have enough books I haven't read yet loaded on to my kindle that the cellular thing wouldn't really be necessary.

Anybody have good oasis cases they like? Apparently the new version uses the same cases as the oasis 2.

As far as cellular goes, I've only ever needed to download something away from wifi once and using phone tethering was perfectly fine for doing that. You should probably save the money and buy the wifi only version.

I don't have my new Oasis yet, but I bought the Ayotu Skin Touch Feeling case (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FD3TKDC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) in Saddle Brown, and it feels very nice at first glance. Will know more once the new Oasis gets here.

Appreciate the recommendation. I went ahead and ordered that case myself. I also went and shipped my old voyage back for the trade-in. I just left it in the case, because gently caress it, it isn't like a voyage case isn't going to do me any good now. Might help protect it during shipping too, though the UPS store seemed to have a very appropriate box that used a plastic sheet to keep the kindle pressed against a cardboard insert.

I do feel like amazon's trade-in deals make upgrading much more palatable. I went with a $300 model, which was knocked down to $225 with the 25% off. The $50 credit will bring the total cost down to $175, which seems pretty good for brand new high-end e-reader.

Well not a design flaw but apparently they hosed up the pre-orders in the US and a bunch of people (myself included) have had their orders delayed until an estimated July 31 so you're welcome everybody.

I ordered the cellular version and it was supposed to arrive next week on 7/30 but got an email today saying I'll actually get it tomorrow. Pretty happy about that as I'm going out of town Friday for a weekend where I'll have time to chill and read a ton.

The battery on my original Oasis has gone to poo poo so I bought the bullet on this new one because warm lighting is tempting enough and got the email saying my shipment has been delayed. They haven’t said when it will actually be delivered yet. Good job, Bezos!

I got addicted to the absolute dick-simple cellular syncing on my first Kindle years ago and refuse to go without it now. I don't want to think about it, I just want to open whatever device I'm reading on and have it immediately offer to sync to wherever I was last. I'm old and time is precious, I'll pay for that poo poo :)

That said, condolences on them loving up the pre-orders, apparently. I had originally ordered the non-cellular version because the order page hides the ever-loving poo poo out of that option so I had to cancel that when I finally figured it out and was bummed at the extra week for shipping but I guess it'll all work out assuming it actually gets delivered tomorrow and isn't stolen before I get home from work.

My delayed Oasis ended up shipping out last night via next day air from like 45 minutes away to my city and is out for delivery now. So strange.

Anyway, I tried out the first 7in oasis and did not love it. I’m hoping the battery life is better on this one and I can get over the aluminum not really being that comfortable. Really wish they’d just have made the original Oasis design a little bigger. Oh well.

Yep, mine was delayed as well and no update on shipping status. I can order the same thing and (supposedly) get it Monday - which I may have to do because we’re out of town all weekend.

I’m a little surprised they’ve managed to gently caress this up.

I got my Oasis 3 yesterday (upgrading from a dying Voyage).

My first impression was that there wasn't much difference in the yellow-tinted screen, but then when I picked up my old Voyage it looked glaringly weird & blue and I couldn't go back after that, so. Page turns are much faster, so all-in-all I'm happy.

One weird thing, I bought a 3rd party Ayotu cover which doesn't seem to be sleep/waking the Oasis at all even though it's specifically advertised as having that functionality & compatibility. Has anyone had success with theirs or know where the Oasis sleep/wake magnets are? I'm a little paranoid that the trouble is with my Very Expensive Kindle.

Online scuttlebutt is saying that the wake feature isn't working on a bunch of third-party cases, so I'm guessing the case companies just labeled their Oasis 2 cases as fitting (which isn't strictly a lie) without checking to see if the magnets are in the same place. Apparently some of them have removed Oasis 2019 from their list of compatible devices since the device released.

Edit: The battery is actually slightly larger. The Oasis 2 was 1000 mAh, while the Oasis 3 is 1130 mAh. Given that, I would probably expect like 10% extra battery life.

Looking around, the differences seem to be
1) Warm Light Option
2) Cellular is now 4G, instead of 3G.
3) No more back magnets
4) Page refresh is supposed to be very slightly faster. It reportedly very minor though.

Amazon has my oasis 3 scheduled for Tuesday, which seems fine considering I only ordered it last week. Looking forward to seeing how I like it compared to my old voyage, which I used consistently for years. I went though a lot of trashy genre fiction on that device.

I ordered on release day and it still says "Expected delivery July 24th. We'll update you when we have a new estimated shipping date." I talked to a rep yesterday and got the "priority note" thing but still no update. Oh well. Must have been some sort of a big supply chain issue if they can't even estimate when they're going to ship out.

I think the one I bought is like that. It does not seem to be waking it up. Fits well and feels nice though.
