The new, mid-engined C8 Corvette was announced yesterday, and the test mule for the C8R was seen in the promo video shown to the press. more or less confirming what's been rumored for a year or so, but it's still nice to get confirmation.

Plus the C7.R has been running in IMSA since 2014, it's beyond time for an update. Plus the new model being mid-engined should help them as well. The interesting hints from those reporting on it (like Pruett) are that there may be customer cars much sooner, which may mean somebody running the C8R in the WEC regularly? Would be good even if it's a GTE-Am team.

2 C8Rs for Pratt & Miller... and 2 C8Rs for Ganassi. You heard this COMPLETELY MADE UP RUMOR here first baby

I’ve always appreciated that racing trucks have a speed limiter just to ensure that they can actually slow down to make a corner.

There will be not one, or two, but THREE itasha racing this weekend at the Spa 24h! Aside from the Goodsmile Racing car which will 100% crash out again, Goodsmile is cosponsoring two Black Falcon cars which means there's a chance for one of them to be competitive at the top. Looking forward to the commentary booth trying to figure it all out. https://twitter.com/goodsmileracing/status/1152141727228055553

NASA—the 25 Hours of Thunderhill people, not the space people—has announced a new amateur endurance racing series. You don't need a racing license, just a regular ol' driving license. https://twitter.com/drivenasa/status/1153711707526770688 Seems like this is LeMons, with an emphasis on fun but without the zany cars, but with the option to eventually get a full NASA racing license.

an oddly awful oud posted:oh my god it'll be a bloodbath I like the box of shame rule. 5.2.1 Any driver displaying rough, careless, and/or irresponsible driving or displaying unsportsmanlike conduct will likely receive harsh penalties, which may include loss of points, suspension, and/or monetary fines at the discretion of NASA Officials. In egregious instances, you may also be required to place the “box of shame” over your head, walk up and down the cold pitlane once while all other teams can “boo” you until you find the team you affected with your less than admiral driving and apologize for the action.

So does this slot between Lemons and Chump/ChampCar on the seriousness scale? or maybe more serious than ChampCar?

Cygni posted:So does this slot between Lemons and Chump/ChampCar on the seriousness scale? or maybe more serious than ChampCar? First of all, lol that ChumpCar took the ChampCar name I think NASA TREC is above ChaumpCar here. Classes are based strictly on vehicle performance, and if you run enough TREC races you qualify for getting a NASA license meaning you can potentially race in the 25 Hours, which is safe to say the most significant/prestigious/serious amateur endurance race available to people. LeMons and ChaumpCar exist in their own worlds and cater to their own audiences, and I think TREC will as well. I don't think NASA would have done this unless there was enough demand for it that they wouldn't dilute the market and stretch the crossover crowd too thinly.

This is more NASA doing WRL and AER than NASA doing Lemons or Chuamp.

Overarching manufacturer GT3 endurance series that encompasses the Bathurst 12 hour, Spa 24, Suzuka 10, California 8 (Indy next year) and for this year on, the Kyalami 9 hour. Typically the factory-blessed teams run locally owned cars for the manufacturer, to save on freight. It's a neat concept
