Does skill point gain during instruct scale with professor rank, or does it just start falling off relative to skill requirements once you get to around C or so? Mostly asking since then I'd start focusing on a character's other strengths or talents.

Revelry in the Dark

you get some leeway on your magic recruits since it is harder for Byleth to grow magic

I think in my next run I want to use a male Byleth and use him as a Hero. it'll be Blue Lions but other than that I have no idea who to poach

master isnt an upgrade at all, several classes actually lose base stats going into master, and lots of classes from advanced dont have any equivalent upgrades, like assassin. and assassin stealth is incredibly good, it makes the unit basically unable to be targeted unless they're the only target in an enemy's range.
that's also one thing I was wondering about, the master classes are all like "knight with axe", "knight with bow", "knight with white magic", "knight with black magic" and so on which isn't as cool as the advanced classes

my stupid idea was making a punch assassin, would that work? I just like the idea of sneaking up on enemies and punching them dead

You lose like 3 weapon skill per battle for not being in a class specialized in that weapon. Maybe that adds up, I dunno, but that's the only penalty.

It does not scale with professor rank, although you can spend renown on statues for a couple of flat bonuses. Higher skill ranks just take way longer to raise, but tbh that's also a reason to focus even more on them. I didn't get a single S+ rank on anyone in my first playthrough.

Edit:

yeah no, they arent a strict upgrade at all. all the horse classes lose out on a small amount of stats compared to non horse classes, even if those classes are in a lower tier. the only actual upgrades in master are gremory, war master, wyvern lord, falcoknight, and the unique lord classes.

like, four faculty sessions in flying brought me to the D in flying i needed to poach ingrid at B support, for instance. if your targets value faith (like annette or lysithea) the choir is also a good way to raise faith, and also get more support points with them

Whoever said the Alois/Shamir paralogue was tricky wasn't kidding, those wyverns are deadly. Just minor battle spoilers: I had to rewind at one point just to stop Alois from getting one-shot even at full health. Thankfully the boss doesn't park himself on one tile, so I could lure him from the south. Having Shamir and bow Petra parked in the town meant it was never in danger, but only Edelgard could take more than one attack from the wyverns without dying, so positioning got a bit dicey for a while there.

thanks! I didn't know you could get the -faire skills by leveling a weapon, so that's nice! Speaking of learning skills, in this game every class has one skill to master right? Does that mean you should always max out your current class before assigning a new one? I've noticed it takes a long time to max them out, like I'm barely 1/3 of the way on the first classes by the time I can switch to the second ones.

another thing I was wondering about was weight. Is there an easy way to eyeball whether a certain weapon or shield is "worth it"? I only know that WT affects your attack speed and can make you terrible in battle because the enemy gets to attack twice as much, but I've had a hard time figuring out a good way of telling.

Now he's a loving beast and on top of this I didn't realise he was picking up def and res like every level so he's completely invincible. I've created a monster.

beat beagles chaos route

it was overall cool but it definitely felt a bit disjointed? like, it feels like it desperately needed a moment for you or your students to go "okay edelgard what the hell was with the whole flame emperor deal", like even without that i still feel i understand how/why she was doing that poo poo, but it'd be nice considering she was set up as the primary antagonist for the first half of the game lmao

i was sort of hoping we'd learn the Death Knight's deal considering he was, yknow, actually on our side, and it was disappointing he never showed up at all post-timeskip lmao. manuela talking about how he apologized profusely for the whole "stabbing" thing was hilarious at least

Those Who Slither In the Dark were waaaaaay too prominent a threat to be relegated to the "and the adventure continued" hook tho. like, we destroyed the entire Alliance in two chapters, surely you could've spared some time after we killed rhea to deal with your lovely uncle once and for all, Edel? especially since they literally did a magic nuke on a city, that edelgard blamed on the church, and this never had any consequences or even any further mention? and the hideous trauma he put her through is like half her motivation?

i never even saw raphael, marianne, and lorenz; and i wonder if i stopped them from spawning somehow because im pretty sure i killed every other student lmao

the penultimate map was some real bullshit - the bolting rear end in a top hat stalled me enough that every. single. one of the crest-bearing soldiers turned into a crest beast. i get that i could've handled the situation better, but by the time things were spiraling out of control i really didn't want to restart the mission; and it's not like all the monsters made it harder - it was just waaaaay more tedious.

final map was hard in a much less bullshit way but on my first attempt i ran out of dragon pulses and by that point i was worn down enough that i just switched down to normal difficulty lmao

definitely looking forward to starting my lions run next but ill probably be taking it a bit easier now

For decision-making, weight is literally just negative speed. 1 weight is canceled out by 1 speed. A weapon with 11 weight (like Nosferatu) is the equivalent of having 11 less speed.

In general though, it's fine to just swap between all your weapons and see which ones make you double/get you doubled. Shields seem kinda bad to me, personally, but if you're an armor knight I guess it couldn't hurt to have more def and less speed.

Okay so I just realized I was in a weird place with regard to Byleth’s skill growth. I've largely been ignoring it because you don't instruct him or otherwise set his goals, but I just noticed his sword rank is at C+ at a time it really needs to be A for Swordmaster (my intended path for him). I guess I never thought about his skill level because he's already so OP.

What can I do to raise his sword skill ASAP so he's not stuck in intermediate for months? I just mastered Mercenary and he has nowhere else to go at the moment unless I want to train other skills when I should be training sword.

Agreed that BEagles Alt route is just too damned short and doesn't deal with all of the stuff it needs to. 18 chapters to 22 on the other routes. Could have used at least a couple more.

It also got me thinking about how a theoretical route where everyone joins together could work- sure Edelgard thinks no one would believe that the church is evil, yet we have info about the hosed up poo poo they've done, including making baby Byleth a vessel for the goddess, which just kinda got dropped in near the end. When did you find this out, Edelgard? Could you not have told us sooner? Maybe we could have told the other leaders about this poo poo before you started a massive war, then killed them? At least try!

They're trying to fit it into the Shin Megami Tensei Law/Neutral/Chaos framework because Onmi made a post to that effect a few days ago.

It doesn't actually fit that well.

I mean the route is about Edelgard dissolving power structures and ending both the noble system and the entire concept of inheritance so it almost works but on the other hand she isn't wandering around screaming like a Warboy and murdering random people so it doesn't fit with how SMT chaos usually works :v:
