Fister Roboto posted:My favorite is the people who are on the bargaining stage of grief, ie it's not going to be THAT bad. My dad's a big fan of saying that people can just move north to Canada and Siberia, which will of course be perfectly hospitable and ready to support billions of people with zero effort. The temperature of those areas might become livable in our post-climate change hellscape while India ends up abandoned, but the current days of easy food production in the quantities required for the current population to not drop by low to mid double digit percents will be completely, irrevocably rear end-hosed sans lube. Rough estimate is about a century per inch of topsoil, assuming an otherwise balanced and lively ecosystem in perfect conditions (like nutrient rich rains rinsing off mountains and accumulating in valleys) and less ideal places, you can double or triple that time. Siberian wastelands are....not that. Edit, that's also just talking soil. Latest I read was something 30-40% caloric drop in production of staple crops like wheat and rice, purely from the excess atmospheric CO2, which is another point you're likely to hear, "Plants love CO2, they grow better with more of it, it'll be fine!" because they're loving stupid and swallowing any excuse they can find on Facebook to ignore how truly, thoroughly, hosed we are. bird food bathtub fucked around with this message at 19:37 on Aug 3, 2019 |

Yeah the soil can't support large scale agriculture even if the climate does. There's no escaping to magical lands now made fertile.

^^^ Oh good, another one this week I got into an argument with a guy, and his post-climate collapse plan is to buy a bunch of land in Kamchatka and build a compound with an electrified fence surrounding it. I didn't even begin asking him how he plans to power that, what he planned to eat and drink, and what he would do about the billions of people who would come knocking at his door. Enjoy beer and coffee while you can, that poo poo is gonna be a luxury for the uber rich. I might buy a couple hundred pounds of green coffee and vacuum seal it, would probably last me most of the rest of my life. Speaking if lightning bugs, we saw some in our neighborhood a fee weeks back. I was kind of surprised because they had never been really common in our part of Colorado as far as I know, so it was cool to gross out our kids with them. Also I've seen probably 10 different bee types in my garden since my sunflowers bloomed. Its been really fun watching all the bugs doing their thing this year, we didnt have quite as much insect diversity at our old place.

Living in the Great Lakes region, I feel lucky that I’m in one of the few areas that might derive some benefit from climate change, although on the whole it’s obviously a global catastrophe. Chicago and all the other major cities in this region, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Detroit & Cleveland (maybe lol) are going to be overflowing with climate refugees. Shitloads of freshwater, some of the most productive agricultural land on the planet, numerous large cities, etc.

Looks like the reports of a large number of fatalities might be wrong? None of the major news sites are reporting more than one confirmed death so far, as far as I can see. I'm guessing someone said something like "22 casualties" and that was interpreted to be dead and not wounded/dead. Would be cool if people on twitter would stop spreading his loving face and manifesto around.
