Cut atonements. Whatever you do, don't let your goring blade DOT drop.

It's the opposite, you want to drop Goring Blade if it means more Atonements. The goring combo is 1485 potency compared to 1650 from three Atonements.

But most of all, you cheated BABA

Things that are mindblowing to me, as someone who has some experience with F2P mobile/PC games and who has heard that MMOs seem to be designed to be life-destroying addictions:

- there's a levequest allowance. I can't do all of them at once, I have to wait.
- no daily login reward
- zero time-sensitive events or things I can miss. (except for 1.0)

basically I'm not seeing any of the addiction traps that I'll see elsewhere and it's like... woah.

I mean there's seasonal events but they're usually really minor investments in time and effort, usually getting some cosmetic, furnishing, or mount, almost always silly.

Yeah. Saying there's no missable events is incorrect, because I specifically logged in with all seven of my alts to get that car seven times and that basically meant the ff15 crossover event succeeded in my case.

There's just, well, fewer of those missable events and the game doesn't hammer them over your head the way mobile or f2p games do.

Most pay MMOs don't do that poo poo because they already have your money, they don't really care if you log in every day or not and don't need you to get addicted to pulling gacha. That's why all the people that are willing to pay $10/mo or whatever are super dismissive of f2p mmos because the quality of life is just hugely different. WoW, FF11, EQ, the vanishingly smaller list of pay MMOs are pretty similar in that regard. The producer of this game straight up says though he doesn't want people to ever feel obligated to play FF14 and they're geared around a large portion of the player base only subbing one or two months for each new patch.

They do do lots of seasonals and time sensitive things though, but generally they're easy to get and in most cases they put them up on the cash shop after a year. The car for one comes from the FFXV crossover a couple months ago, there's an ongoing PVP crossover event that ends in a couple months, and next week I think is the anniversary event which will have some exclusive stuff.

Also the one-time event/holiday stuff usually goes on the cash shop a year or so later if you really have to have it. It's pretty generous that way overall.

Have we ever confirmed that the rogue council member was called Venat, or is it conjecture from XII lore and how that ties in with the Ascians?

Not yet, but Venat, the Heretic is the only Scion of Light (Occuria) from FFXII that hasn't be referenced in some form in-game as a member of the Convocation, and the only one that wasn't tied to a Scion of Darkness (Zodiark, Hashmal, Mateus, etc.), leaving a hole open for Hydaelyn. Gerun, the Oracle hasn't been mentioned this expansion, but came up in Heavensward 3.1. Urianger sends us into the forbidden section of the Great Gubal Library to pick up a copy of the Gerun Oracles, the existence of which was conferred by Elidibus in conversation. These writings detail what happened before, during and after the sundering. There's also a short excerpt from these writings from Yoshi-P's 2016 New Year message. The loc team got creative with the wording, but the translations for French and German version of that passage are more direct and match what was explained toward the end of 5.0.

Venat's goal in XII was ending Occurian machinations, allowing Man to take hold of his destiny instead of being manipulated for some other purpose. Substitute Occuria for Ascian and it starts making a lot of sense in context. Cid and the Ironworks are also in on it. Too many parallels to discount it as a valid theory, with how the XIV team has previously incorporated lore from other FF games into XIV. Hythlodaeus also confirms that we are someone Emet-Selch knew before the sundering, and that the fact we were split into fourteen parts is a great irony.

All conjecture at this point, though. The rest of the 5.0 storyline will probably shine some more light on all of this.

Hey so mmo accounts are big money in the black market, even more valuable then credit cards because the police think video games are dumb kids things (they are) and don't bother charging people for stealing them, making them huge targets by automated theft programs. So we have this thing that makes it so even if they guess your password they wont be able to get in without getting a one time code provided on demand by something you physically possess.

Me, enlightened player: Is there a way to get that protection but where I don't have to do the thing that protects my account?
