Edelgard route spoilers for Claude Claude is basically just barely able to keep the Alliance together before Edie pushes into Derdriu. He engineers a grand battle in the harbor that spares most of the city and basically risks everything. If he wins he'd decapitate the Empire there, but when Edie wins, basically he just put all the anti Empire nobles on the front lines so that the Alliance can be integrated peacefully. He's the only one who does okay without Byleth.

Well, in Blue Lions at least Claude does not take the bridge, you and the kingdom do after murdering Ferdinand and Lorenz and some empire lady I know nothing about along the way after having received Claude's(or at least House Rigans) permission to cross their lands to do so. There was some initial hope that the Dimitri's forces and the Alliance could... ally against that were dashed when the delegation of knights Gilbert sent out were found dead. No idea if Claude actually did this at least but he does traipse across the bridge after you to participate in the Great Gronder Kerfuffle where he is fighting against you.

But he also tried to convince you to stop fighting him and unite against Edelgard which sounded fine but nobody wanted to trust him and I had to kill most of the golden deer for unclear reasons and was not terribly happy about it.

Depends on what you want to do. Brigand has the best mastery perk though.

Priest is a healer mage is a damage dealer, but both can cast the others type of magic, one is just better at a certain type. Again depends on what you want to do with that unit.

golden deer chapter 17, everyone ingame legitimately seemed uncertain if dimitri was still alive up until KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM, and claude could tell dimitri wasn't keen on joining forces anyway at that point

and he and his troops advance toward your starting point in the north instead of going west to take on edelgard, as it turns out

It's incredibly obvious that the lizard people/empire intervened and killed the messengers to ensure that the Kingdom and Alliance don't ally with one another since Claude implies at the start of the battle that he had also sent messengers that never arrived. Unfortunately this is dropped because while Dimitri is strong and kind, he is not very bright.

Mage's mastery ability is way better than priest's, making it a better choice if the character's Faith/reason are roughly the same... except if you're not on NG+ you're probably not mastering the classes anyway without needlessly delaying promotion.

Just beat Blue Lions route, about 60 hours because I spend way too much time dicking around in menus and optimizing loadouts

Kind of disappointed with the direction the story took. I know I really shouldn't expect too much depth out of a Fire Emblem plotline but the character writing had me hopeful. Dimitri's come-to-Jesus moment is pretty unconvincing and then the rest of the game from that point on becomes every other FE beat-the-evil-empire plot. And it really had that feeling of being a sidestory or alternate route sort of thing... None of the major questions answered, no clear motives.

I guess it's pretty clear BEagle route is the "real" story though so I'm glad I didn't start with them, at least.

Those last couple maps of part 2 were really fun gameplay-wise though, the latter half really ramped up the difficulty.

Is that the following Edelgard route or not?

It's the one where you side with Edelgard, yes.
In order to unlock it, you need to be in the Black Eagles house and talk to Edelgard in February, immediately before the timeskip. She'll ask you to go on a trip with her, it'll throw up some very big "THIS WILL CHANGE THE STORY" warnings. At the end of the next battle (ie end of February) the game will give you another choice; this, too, throws up a big "THIS WILL CHANGE THE STORY" warning. Normally there's only one option, but going on Edelgard's little errand opens up the second one. Either way, it's kinda an obvious choice so as long as you remember to talk to Edelgard you should be fine.

Personally I can't wait to play Blue Lions and see what the gently caress Dimitri's deal is, because it is honestly ridiculous that he takes time off from his single-minded hate boner for Edelgard to attack the Golden Deer. Edelgard has some remark about wanting to cause confusion in the fog of war (like the actual fog of war, not the fire emblem game mechanic fog of war), but Dimitri seems pretty aware that he's attacking the Golden Deer and not the Empire?

Like I said before you say obvious but I know people who didn't speak to her and there's been people in the thread.
The game doesn't make chatting to your characters feel too important so I can see why people would miss it.

Also I love starting with A+ professor level in new game plus, my god it's bananas. I might be able to actually have master classes!
Having adjutants from the beginning is amazing too if only for the support ramifications.

And I was mastering the starting classes right from the first fight!

I will say after Edelgard route Chaos I have a lot of story questions. While I mostly understand what has happened this is my main one:
Who is Flayn? Why do they have to pretend she's the sister and not the daughter?
There's a support conversation with her that suggests she's a saint but I'd still like to know!

as far as i can tell on our side, the leicester alliance made the executive decision to let him and his forces pass through ordelia and into the empire unmolested, and then he repays the favor by going "gently caress the empire and the alliance we'll kill every last one of em". come to think of it it was pretty funny how on the golden deer route everyone seemed legitimately unsure whether dimitri was alive or dead until KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM

like before the fight, felix was saying dimitri was dead, and now he's depressed because he really is dead

though of course the simple answer is, "put pressure on the player"

You can raise the protagonist's levels in faith/reason by getting faculty instruction from the relevant other professors or the weekend seminars. MAG's a bit of a crapshoot but being in a magic class raises growth rates. Although mostly I guess the correct way to actually recruit people is to shower them with flower arrangements / food / gifts to reach B support, which drastically lowers the requirements.

Is the main characters mother the final one or was Flayns mother one? It's such a weird thing you never find out about, at least in black eagles.

The only other game which is as different as this for different choices is the Witcher 2 and I think it's impressive that this has done the same - it felt so ambitious then and it still feels that way.
