Any suggestions as to what I should buy as an upgrade from the original Mobius? Had an issue today where I witnessed a hit and run, and the camera footage was not good enough to identify a license plate (I'm not sure any dashcam really would have been able to). I was thinking of something like the BlackVue DR900S-1CH, but I'm not a huge fan of built in GPS.

Make a habit of reading license plate out loud. Most dashboard cameras have a wide-angle lens, it's not going to see letters and numbers at more than 1.5 car lengths.

This is why I keep audio turned on; if something is happening, or I think something is about to happen, I'll read the license plate out loud and whack the "emergency" button on the camera.

I thought he must've had extremely brittle/thin panels, for one reason or another. (As you can tell, I know nothing about motorcycle manufacturing standards! ) Good to hear, though

Yeah, definitely. The only time I've seen someone drive the wrong way was an old guy driving down Main North Road in a gopher, one time. (Wish I had that recorded) Also wow, that P-plater in the red car near the start! I thought they had hit the brakes and wanted to change lane due to a rear-ending in front, or something...but nope!

Did that other goon who was working on a dashcam project a while back ever end up getting anywhere with it? I gave up on my Pi Zero-based ideas a while ago but have recently been having the itch to work on a project again, especially now that there are a lot of other SBCs in that class now which may be more suitable for the task. In case I missed anything when searching around, is there anything out there commercially that will automatically connect to my home WiFi and offload flagged recordings to my NAS without requiring my cell phone or a cloud service to be involved? There are a lot that have WiFi, but it seems that most of those are for a cell phone to connect and download videos. That'd certainly be nice too, but it's not that important IMO. For me the biggest goal is to keep as much of the card free for the rolling file buffer while not requiring any manual actions on my part. Too often I've found my camera only running one buffer file because the automatically saved recordings filled up the card without me realizing. wolrah fucked around with this message at 21:36 on Aug 5, 2019 |
