It ought to blow up in his face; kneecapping your own commercial and economic base and wrecking living standards might work in the first world where the standard was high enough that the degraded version is still somewhat liveable, but doing it where people are way more desperately poor/on the verge of food insecurity would probably be a disaster Then again, if there's one takeaway from the 2019 indian election it's that materialism isn't real

Modi's cult of personality is odd to me. so many other right-wing heads of government have a brash, loud, bombastic personality (Trump, Bolso, Salvini, BoJo, Duterte), and then you have grandfatherly, relatively quiet Modi. obviously he's racist and has that in common with everyone i mentioned, but it's weird that he attracts so many people to him by acting the opposite
