Good rng on the dragons in stage 2 would be a good thing too. If they come at you from behind then you're safe but if they come at you from the front, your options are to quickly hit them with 2 headshots to kill them while jumping to maintain your horizontal speed or to back up and dodge them.

I was experimenting at one point to see if I could recreate the crab skip with any of the other bosses but I didn't make much progress, not for lack of a skip but for lack of glitch-finding skill. I've found 4 glitches in this game and 3 of them are useless lol. And to be honest, I'm not entirely certain if crab skip is faster than fighting the crab. I think it might be *slightly* faster, but not a lot.

The 1 glitch I wish I could find a use for is the one that lets you get stuck in walls. When you are moving upwards and shoot to the right, you can embed yourself into the right side of any surface. The only thing you can do once you get like this is to move out of the wall. I wasn't able to find any way to zip.

It can be used amusingly to get just the top of her head stuck in the right side of a ceiling. From there you can walk but she'll be hanging by her head in the wall. I haven't found any uses for it though.

As for locked doors, I feel like the hitbox in stage 4 and 5 are different. I can pretty consistently hit the buttons in stage 1 but in the same kinds of positions it feels like I need to be more precise for 4 and 5.

I hated fighting the crab on my normal mode playthrough, so when I watched your run do the crab skip I was just like "oh thank god, I don't have to fight that guy ever again." I'd be curious to see a comparison between doing the fight and skipping it, but not having to fight him is worth it for me. :newlol:

Oh, I've encountered that sticking-in-walls glitch, I was wondering if it had any possible use for the run. I usually get it when I'm grabbing the secret shop coin in stage 2 and jumping back up. Thanks for the info about that, might have to experiment with it a bit!

Yeah, gently caress the crab. I hate that fight. It isn't even that it is super random or anything, it is just a nuisance since there aren't any fast and safe spots to stay in while fighting and you have to keep moving around unlike the plant and worm. I love how I found the crab skip on accident while talking about how I'd never found any useful glitches in the game

He has a Polish name and I think lives in Poland right now, so it's probably not nearly as much of a red flag for traveling.

I always thought the TMR moniker was kind of funny because I'm pretty sure his family is Polish and emigrated to Mexico.

still learnable if you just watch the individual episode runs instead since a full game run is three of those back to back

incidentally, been meaning to try this myself.

What's the reasoning for the game order? Is it to get anything crash-heavy out of the way before moving on or is it just that you can breeze through those games more easily than the later ones or what?

I assume 2 is because of all of the saving you have to do, what are the softlocks/crashes in 4?

4 is just broadly unstable and I had a hell of a time getting it to a state where the game was completeable.

It can also just softlock within the first 10 seconds if you mash the action button too hard.

Outside of any technical element, 4 is the most volatile run of the series on account of half of it being an escort quest with an escortee who may randomly elect to get you killed if her brain stops at an inconvenient moment. Consequently it's fairly easy to just straight up die in SH4, which would make a run not single segment and thus invalid. So it need to get out of the way early.

They all still suck to emulate.

You can either play CD-i games through MAME which is buggy with spotty compatibility, or you can use TinyCDi which is a fork from the same code base and optimized around certain games but works way worse on others.

RetroArch should have CD-i support through MAME as an option now but getting your hands on the proper format files for the games might be an issue.

I loved when they played fighting games with that setup. I remember them playing something like Battle Arena: Toshinden and the players would mostly just jump in the air.

sorry, wrong clip(although that, one is also an example of PJ breaking things, in that he somehow made a physics launch then launch a second time so hard banjo nearly hit the ceiling). the one I meant to link is the one where he's doing a challenge and puts himself into outer space. It's amazing how consistent he is at breaking every game he touches.

edit: and an actual speedrunning thing, he got the good boy skip in MM7 and a great wily, got to see it live which was great, and he got a PB too, 20 seconds off the world record it looks like?

I think they are forcing Terra into Locke’s section, which tricks the game into thinking they are at Kefka at Narshe so that it adds empty character slots into the party. How is the runner skipping all those triggers?
