I mean if anything it would make scotlab literally irrelevant.

E: so proably not much change really.

Cos fundamentally I'm not sure what the point of a pro independence but also... pro labour party is? Like the whole point is that they wouldn't want to work with the labour government because the fundamentally wouldn't recognize the legitimacy of it? If you want a party that's trying to put a labour government in office then necessarily it has to be a unionist one because "we'll put you in government but only so we can leave" is already the SNP position, basically?

It would also mean hijacking the entire platform of the labour party to their ends which seems... ill advised on UK labour's part? Like why would a labour government give away its majority by literally getting rid of the seats, for no benefit? It doesn't make sense from any angle really unless they believe that a: people would actually be better off not under a labour government or b: that scottish independence is more important than the welfare of everyone in the rest of the UK which I would hope would be clearly farcical?

Is this a good thing or bad?

Being from Kent, I don't really know the intricacies of Scotpol aside from the ocasional comments in this thread.
To clarify, the outside impression I get is that ScotLab is still mostly Blairite.

In the grand tradition of Scottish Labour of the last 12 years it is neither good nor bad, it simply doesn't loving matter. For over a decade they've completely failed to losing the Scottish election in 2007. Allow me to lazily post a list of all the ScotLab leaders since that election from Wikipedia
Jack McConnell (22 November 2001 – 15 August 2007)
Cathy Jamieson (15 August 2007 – 14 September 2007) (Acting)
Wendy Alexander (14 September 2007 – 28 June 2008)
Cathy Jamieson (28 June 2008 – 13 September 2008) (Acting)
Iain Gray (13 September 2008 – 17 December 2011)
Johann Lamont (17 December 2011 – 24 October 2014)
Jackie Baillie (24 October 2014 – 13 December 2014) (Acting)
Kezia Dugdale (13 December 2014 – 13 June 2015 (Deputy Party Leader, Leader in the Parliament)
Iain Gray (13 June 2015 – 15 August 2015) (Acting)
Kezia Dugdale (15 August 2015 – 29 August 2017)
Alex Rowley (29 August 2017 – 15 November 2017) (Acting, as Deputy Party Leader)
Jackie Baillie (15 November 2017 – 18 November 2017) (Acting)
Richard Leonard (18 November 2017 – )

Yes, the Blairites have an outsized representation up here but even the Labour left here do little more than screech about the SNP. Richard Leonard regularly asks questions at FMQs about issues which aren't even loving devolved (he's not alone in that, Lib Dem Willie Rennie does it too). It might work when the opposition is the Tories but doesn't work with the SNP because huge numbers of SNP voters are former Labour voters and I can tell you from personal experience that Labour's reaction to the SNP in the past decade has been alienating, especially when combined with the general arrogant malaise of the "natural party of government" refusing to accept reality has changed and they haven't.

I see little to be optimistic about in the short to medium term for Labour in Scotland. All the momentum of the Corbyn leadership cabinet didn't really happen here because it was less than 12 months after the indy ref and that was still the single most dominating issue, and frankly Labour campaigning with the Tories as Better Together hurt them. They might have saved the union but it is hard to calculate how much damage it did to the party in Scotland. Instead it's just "Nats bad" which, yes, the Nats are pretty pisspoor but loving nora, if your message hasn't worked for the last 12 years maybe try changing the tune? Make a positive case for voting Labour rather than a negative case for voting SNP. Some Nats won't be won over, even the relatively recent converts because they've nationalism is brain poison and they've convinced themselves Scotland is somehow special and uniquely ripe for socialist/social democratic government. But that's not all of them.

I don't see any issue with Labour allowing IndyRef2 and any Labour government that allows one does not automatically mean that the party needs to pivot to a full nationalist party. It seems very odd that people in this thread are implying that.

There is a popular conspiracy theory in some African circles that Bill Gates etc are so keen on giving African women access to family planning and prenatal health because Bill is terrified of more dark people rather than because high fertility rates both cause and are caused by poverty in women and girls.

I can see why people are automatically distrustful of everything that rich white men do though, especially in Africa.

I feel like any left-winger bringing up 'identity politics' is deeply unwise. It's firmly a right-wing dogwhistle these days, and it's not useful enough to be worth reclaiming. Then again, if Williamson was good at articulating thorny political concepts without sounding vaguely racist, he wouldn't be in his current situation.

election time is but a window.

I can't watch the video he links, so I'm assuming he's not just considering the working class to be white and in old industrial areas. Is he talking about how New Labour split the working class apart along racial lines using all that bogus asylum seekers etc. narrative, and how it's important to bring the now-disparate parts of the working class back together intersectionally? I'd like to think so

I've never really understood what identity politics is, or is supposed to be. I don't think that's a phrase that has ever been uttered by an actual politician? Some pundits refer to it every now and then, but usually without sufficient context.

Apparently, from what I've been able to guess, "identity politics" means something like, aha, these people are left-of-centre, so that must mean they also hate nuclear power and are against the existence of NATO, or some other dumb poo poo where people get lumped into imaginary, stupid categories dreamed up by liberals

It's the politics of identity as opposed to the politics of economics. So, religion, race, gender, all that jazz. It's almost always used pejoratively, either by white straight male left-wingers who don't like being told that their policies were only designed to better the lot of white straight men, or by far-right white identitarians who absolutely know what they're doing when they use it as a dog whistle for 'non-white interests'.
