As of 2012, it would require 76 days of reading 8 hours a day to read all of the EULAs you agree to in a year (source). I can only imagine it's gone up since then.

For all most of us know, we are agreeing not to blink. Or breathe. Or allow our hearts to beat.

If you are personally unsure whether you have signed a contract with Hulu to stop breathing that is a journey for you to take on your own.

Ultimately I think it boils down to whether your word means anything. If you willingly enter into a contract with a company, you can either follow the obligations on your end or not, depending on if you think your word has any value. I feel like most people here would be absolutely rioting if their employer didn't honor the strictest interpretation of their employment contract (I.e., if their employer said "well, we aren't going to pay you for the first 3 hours you work each week, and tbh it's not theft, you never got paid for that time so we're not technically stealing any asset you own"), but also people are great at double-think and will consider that COMPLETELY different than if they themselves don't live up to the details of a contract they willingly entered into.

Good ol' human nature: be a trashy as you can justify to yourself.

Corporations are not people and respect must go both ways. I'll give a person the benefit of the doubt that my trust in them will be repaid and if I do right by them then they'll do right by me. All I trust a business to do is rip me off at every opportunity and I will not hesitate to repay them in kind.

That's a separate topic, policy vs implementation. But as far as policy is concerned, my understanding is that in your view the legal system ideally should enforce contracts to ensure compliance, yes?

Bruh, under the current US legal situation the only thing the streaming site can do to you for blocking ads is to boot you off the site. They can't actually afford to sue you to recover pennies in damages, and they can't call the cops on you or get you jailed over it.

You could turn off (at the power point) anything that doesn't need to be on standby, like your tv, but I don't know why you'd turn your fridge and freezer off. Don't you still have stuff in them? If not, I guess you could empty and defrost them before you go if you want to and have the time?

If you have a gas hot water service, it should have a setting on it where you can stop it from keeping your water hot, but still keep the pilot light on. Remember to turn it back on and give it an hour or two before you try to have a hot shower when you get home.

I got rid of one of these not too long ago, and I do not recommend it if you have dogs. Started out fine but just got weaker and weaker.

I like my current Kenmore canister, very powerful and it takes forever to fill up the bag (which is less messy to deal with.) Only got it in April though so I can't speak to long-term use.

I mean, how long does defrosting take? And what does that even entail? I thought it'd be as easy as just unplugging the fridge and keeping the doors open?

Any remotely modern fridge keeps itself defrosted, so it's as easy as unplugging it, period. Definitely keep the doors open though, lest the residual moisture make something gross happen.

This is called dynamic range compression and, at least on Windows, it's got a somewhat crappy built-in one https://pureinfotech.com/normalize-sound-volume-windows-10/

Are cooling weighted blankets actually cooling or do they just kinda mitigate some of additional heat from laying underneath 20 lbs? I was thinking about getting one but I sleep hot and don't want to set my AC cooler every night in the summer to compensate. I sleep under a standard (I guess?) down comforter and no top sheet now.

I think they were questioning if you want to spend the time to empty out your freezer and fridge before leaving for a few weeks. If you don't have anything in there, just unplug it and open the doors, but really you could do that overnight if you wanted to.

Whats weird about your question is the fact that most people have stuff in their freezer and fridge that will last longer than a few weeks and unplugging your fridge before a medium length trip isn't really a common thing.

Motherboard chat reminded me -

I have 4 HDD's that were encrypted with TrueCrypt years ago (on Vista ffs), and the motherboard fried on that machine. But, I'm pretty sure they're permanently gone, because I made a keyfile with the random mouse movement generator. And, of course, I didn't save the keyfile to any sort of external drive. Its on C. So I think what I need to to is get the unencrypted windows partition to boot, in then launch truecrypt, and it'll then locate the keyfile. But how can I get the vista partition to boot on a machine that doesn't have the correct (assigned?) motherboard?

Sorry if I'm unclear. It's been years since I've used TrueCrypt, and have forgotten most of the terminology.

I have a HDD dock, and a win10 Laptop, and yes, I know the password if that's useful info.
