Parents became "landlords" and siblings became "roommates" as well. I don't think it's supposed to make sense so much as be an obvious cover up.

This is a little late but the "Parody" part of the hitler visual novel thing is probably referencing the fact that it's really common in Japanese visual novels to do an alternate-history thing where you date famous world leaders, but usually the more agreeable ones. The Fate/ series is a good example of this, or Eiyuu*Senki, where you can gently caress Christopher Columbus https://store.steampowered.com/app/691770/EiyuSenki_The_World_Conquest/

Eiyuu*Senki's cast of characters also includes Ivan the Terrible, Lu Bu, Matthew Perry, Emperor Nero, and Khublai Khan it's pretty fun until the game runs out of writing ideas and every single conversation just turns into descriptions of food

Dareon posted:As someone who really enjoyed the descriptions of food in F/SN and intends to start watching the food-related spinoff anime any day now, my interest is piqued. The game is basically Risk except anime. You put units on a 3x3 grid and do turn-based battles where every characters has different attack ranges and special moves that effect different tiles. Winning battles gets you more territory, and more territory means more income every turn which you spend on powering up your units. It's an alternate history storyline like I mentioned, and you wage war against one country at a time and recruit all the world leaders, of which there are a ton. When you're not at war (or even if you are I guess) there's a million little visual novel side-stories to see featuring all the different characters visiting various important cultural or historical locations, but mostly eating food. The Steam version cuts all the porn which is honestly probably a good thing because it's a fun game on its own merits. A translation for the "sequel" was just announced in July which I'm looking forward to, I played the Japanese version using a VN hook translator but it's not as fun as having a real legible translation, especially when so much of the game is about the small stuff like characters talking about food, as opposed to a big story where just getting the gist of things is enough

worth looking at the trailer. premise is alchemist has dying daughter he MUST SAVE AT ALL COSTS, trailer shows you creating "homoculi" that resemble weird ugly dolls. They actually look like background undertale characters, really. But then you "raise" them and it gives you what seem like detailed stories of their "childhoods" with you. And then TO SAVE YOUR DAUGHTER you kill them, each with a special bloody cutscene, and take their souls. So it's kind of like an entire game out of the Undertale Genocide run except nothing fights back, you are an abusive parent. The childhood stories and bloody sacrifice scenes actually make it seem really creepy in a bad way to me, even if it does not contain any actual lurid content. Basically it still flies under a metric of what should or should not be in a store front, I guess, it's not Hatred or those horrible visual novels or an asset flip, but I hate it.

Thinking on it, I guess it's not any worse than other daughter-raising games? The whole genre's pretty hosed up if you think about it, so if they do something interesting with the premise...... I guess?

There's a germ of a good narrative there, but I can't say I trust anyone who named their game "My Lovely Daughter" to actually bring it to fruition.
