I Want To Believe.
I agree they should sort it out for their own peace of mind and ensuring they shed any potential liability issues, but if nothing else, whoever the new owner of it is/was is getting messed around here too, through no fault of their own, so even if you wanted to make the dealer sweat it a bit for their fuckup, it's not really fair on this unknown third party to leverage their situation to do so.

Check out my 'Vette, bro

I bought a used Kia Soul from a local Hyundai dealership last week. My transaction did absolutely nothing to improve my opinion of Hyundai dealerships.

Cliffs Notes:

Car was advertised at $6300 on Autotrader, in the newspaper, and online. They 'made a mistake' it should have been $9800.

I got to my car, and it magically was $6300 cash.

Get to F&I and they used a fancy computer desk. There was no option to not purchase Gap insurance despite it being a cash sale.

I made it to the lot exit before they waved me back in.

Back to the fancy desk, they wanted me to sign approval to run a credit report. 'We do this on all customers'. Even on Cash sales? I'm walking.

I went to lunch.

Finished the deal later that afternoon. Parting shot - 'We noticed your LaCrosse - what would it take to get you into a G80?' Flying pigs over frozen hell.

I have seen some really dumb things happen with titles post-sale.

One guy I sold an awful old BMW to earlier this year clearly has not titled or licensed it yet as I keep getting tag renewal notices from the DMV. Lesson there, file the Release of Liability form every time you sell a car.

Years ago my wife’s Cayenne ended up totaled and so the car was paid off, settlements happened, and long after I thought it was over and done with (probably 1.5 years later?) I got a pseudo-legalese letter in the mail from whomever had bought the car at auction, fixed it up, and was now attempting to strong-arm me for the title. I called my insurance, explained the situation, and they issued a nastygram to the new owner (somewhere back east - maybe Pennsylvania?) who was clearly trying to wash the title to prevent it from having a salvage title. Never heard more on that thankfully.

Crotch Fruit: if you no longer own the car, it’s no longer your problem - in no particular order make your insurance, the DMV, and the dealership you traded that car to aware that it’s not in any way shape or form your problem and let them sort it out.

Spiderverse is legit one of the best movies of the past few years.

Alita I never got past the weird eyes. I'm not sure what the deal is but all these live action versions have worse visuals than the cartoons and the also do action worse too. Virtually everything in the movie is CGI anyway, everything is fake and your viewers are suspending disbelief, particularly with your choices on the main character so you don't have to hold back.

Ghost in the Shell did similar, it used virtually all the same action scenes and somehow managed to do them worse than a 25+ year old cartoon. All apart from mayyyyyyybe that first scene.

Spiderverse is so so good though.

It wasnt that bad, after you left I got to help put out the fire!

When I went to register my Silverado last year I get to the DMV title in hand and they notice there is no release of lien from a loan payed off in 2003. I figured I was mega hosed since the crash in 08 with all the banks consolidating and disapearing that getting the release was going to be impossible. It was some little bank in upstate New York. I called them and holy poo poo they still existed and were super cool and helpful and I got the release in a few days. Hardest part was finding a fax machine so I ended up efaxing it. I thought I was going to have to part the drat truck out. I was surprised though since I had the actual title in hand and I didn't think you got possession of that without paying off the loan. The whole point of the bank having it.

Wow I just had the complete opposite experience....Bought a 2013 xB from a Mercedes dealer this past weekend and it was the smoothest transaction with a dealership I've ever had. I negotiated the OTD price with the salesman via text, came to a reasonable price and sent them a deposit. Sent in all the the info they needed to have the car ready, got there and looked it over and took it for a quick drive. Signed all the appropriate paperwork, handed over the cash and i was gone in 30 minutes from the time I walked in the door. would have been sooner if it wasn't pouring rain. The dealership was super professional and treated me with respect even tho i was buying a lovely econobox at a Mercedes dealer A+ would recommend it :v:

That's what I would have thought. We didn't get our official ("blue", in TX) title until we paid off our car.

You shared it with a dick.

RE:Title shenanigans

So the reason for that problem is that dealers don't transfer title into their own name, they notify the DMV and the DMV is supposed to just put some sort of flag on the title that shows temporary dealer ownership. In Oregon that is a little D on the corner of their data screen. So when they sell the car they mail in the old title and paperwork and the new poo poo is mailed to the new owner. Apparently in this case the car was wrecked before the title came in the mail and they don't want to keep waiting. They'll get a title eventually, they're just bugging you for it early.

A woman once used this feature to steal a car from my dad. She bought the thing but never paid, so he repo'd it. She went to the previous owner, had them fill out a lost title form, got a replacement title, signed it over to the woman, and she took her new title and the police to my dad's shop (while my dad wasn't there) and the cops forced his grunts to hand over the car.

The last time my dad saw the car the rear end in a top hat drove right past his house and waved. Fortunately, my dad went to the DMV and they realized their mistake - they never should have issued a replacement title with the little D in the corner of the screen. So they instantly voided her forged title, and the car was flagged as stolen so it couldn't be registered.

She sat on the car for several years out of spite, then finally came and offered a settlement payment which he accepted, and she sold it without ever using it.

I've told the story before, but it still impressed me. Ford salesman took me for a test drive in a focus knowing I wasn't ready to buy, encouraged a joyride in a (new) '13 Mustang GT, and remembered my name when I came back to test drive an escape 6 months later, still not ready to buy.

He got my '16 Mustang GT sale, and the '17 F-150 lease 2 years later (barely, the salesman he pushed me over to made a bullshit offer and I walked out, the first dude came running after me and barely got the deal). Still kind've regret going through with it, even though I love the truck I miss the 'Stang.

More title stuff:

I sold a car some 10 years ago. Sent paperwork to the DMV and all that, which I guess they lost or something? Well some guy texts me last year saying that he had the title but the person it was sold to had never actually signed it or done anything with it, even though I could have sworn they had. As far as the state was concerned I was still the owner of it. He offered to pay me to sign it over to him and was clearly afraid that I would try to take the car back. Not being an rear end in a top hat I told him it was no problem and got the problem corrected and turned down his offer for payment. I did make sure to note that I should not have been the owner after the sale date in case someone had gotten tickets with it or something.

I still live in the 12th century and there is no title poo poo here. I've registered vehicles just off of a bill of sale.

If it has been registered in Alberta before, you just register it, if it hasn't you get a small piss easy inspection. I keep bills of sale for stuff I've sold so someone doesn't find it in the woods with a trunk full of bodies and think I would be that sloppy with regards to corpse disposal.

As far as my ex wife and the Prius, county clerk (who handles registrations) said there wasn't much I could do but they and the Sheriff told me I should go repossess it until she registers it in her name. I just can't do that. poo poo show would ensue and I have 2 kids to think of and that is their only transportation with her. Earlier today I got added to a FB chat group named "rock n roll Jesse". That kinda gave me a bad feeling. I know a few Jesses, but only one was very much a rocker, and a bunch of mutual friends were in it. I didn't have time to pay attention to it since I was working.

Turns out a close friend was found dead. No word on how/why, all I know is the police found him in his apartment.

Rest in peace, you crazy blurry bastard.

Also uh, looks like I need to find a way to get to Dallas for a funeral.. it's not happening in the Saturn without an alignment, a new wheel, and new front tires first, but there's 2 mutual friends here that may be going. If the funeral is after payday, then I'll be able to get all of that handled.

Good luck dude.

I'm totally not worried about my Dad going broke and homeless because he still has monthly income coming in, he knows his time is short, and I think he does not want to become a burden on my family. If the chemo starts making him sick I think he will stop before the treatment costs stop him. The taxes make me a little paranoid, but I believe my Dad, a former lawyer, is crafty enough to dodge the taxes long enough to finish what remains of his treatment life. In the worst case scenario, even if my Dad did go broke and his RV got repossessed (he used to rent a house but got a crazy idea that living in an RV would be more fun since he likes to travel a lot) I'm sure either I or anyone else in my family would be willing to take him in. There is good news- my Dad was a biker, until he lost his toes and his muscles atrophied while in the hospital. He owned a supped up Harley for almost a decade without riding it because he simply couldn't hold it up, and just months before his cancer diagnosis he finally traded his motorcycle in on a Harley Davidson trike. I got a text message from him last night that he was finally able to get on the trike and ride it around. That drat near brought a tear to my eye, I hope he rides that Harley until the day he dies, I know it's one of the few things that truly brought joy in his life. I know Harleys are crap bikes and he should buy a BMW or a soy-sauce powered crotch rocket instead.

In title related news, I contacted the dealer, they said they were in fact the owner of the vehicle and do not sign the papers. I called the DMV they said tell the auction company to call the dealer and do not sign the papers or it would be invalid. I called the auction house last, I told them exactly what the dealer and DMV said and the auction house still said "but we need you signature right now plz". Maybe I am being a dick, but there is no way I'm going to sign a POA to give anyone the impression that I still owned that vehicle when the new owner wrecked it. gently caress The General insurance company and gently caress Copart.
