This really has been too good. CUKTIG and the LibDems, the ostensible parties of remain, are the only ones refusing to sign up to Corbyn's plan to get no deal off the table.

I am enjoying James Ball's melt down on twitter about the letter

Labour’s line today is its variant of Caroline Lucas’s all-women Cabinet: “we’ll do the thing that will avert disaster but only entirely on our own terms, even though the differences are all cosmetic”.

When this crap enables no-deal, voters rightly won’t forgive any of them.

The best part is where he says "corbyn should do x but isn't so this won't work" and someone points out that is exactly what JC is doing, so James doubles down with "but, but it's Jeremy Corbyn!"

What a twat.

This Vanity Fair article may provide a clue.

Epstein's clientele were the New York machine, wildly wealthy, wildly corrupt old money Democrats. Trump was never a part of their set, despite desperately wanting to be, and may well see the Epstein case as a weapon against the people who looked down on him all his life. Barr seemed sincerely angry about the dude's death, and it may well be that we'll see a more muscular and aggressive investigation of this case (if still a very partisan one) than we might otherwise.
lmao if their plan got ruined not for the moral good but because Trump can't let go of a 30 year old grudge.

So what happens if they actually decide there was foul play?

I'd assumed they were going for "state calls it a suicide, but everyone else, up to and including president twitter himself, says it's murder" as a way of witness intimidation, as in "anyone else who is thinking of coming forward, we can kill you too no matter where you are or who you are and it'll be a tragic suicide and nobody will do a thing."

But that doesn't work if there's an actual homicide case, unless they find a patsy, like Bob poo poo of the Aryan All Jews Are Noncers League had a full set of keys that he made out of spoons, case closed, it was the bad racist. But then that clouds the suicide as witness intimidation angle.

Probably some guard is gonna completely disappear and it'll be proven it was definitely a murder and the guard convicted in their absence, but they're gone now so we can't get any testimony about why, ah well what ya gonna do

If the guard's lucky they'll get a comfortable new life in another country instead of being silently erased to tie up the loose ends. But that's assuming they weren't already forced into doing it, in which case they could take the fall in court to protect their family etc. I mean we're talking organised crime at the highest level here, they have ways to make people do whatever they want

It's amazing how much they've read into the bounce they got in the EuroParl elections. I still hope they win seats at the next GE because they'll be taking them from the Tories, but I am also pre-emptively rolling my eyes at the headlines where Labour gets ahead enough for a minority government, but the Lib Dems are the real winners because they won 2 seats.

Why does it need an entire government? If all you are doing is calling an election then why waste time appointing minsters etc.?

But if all we do is have another GE where labour's position is "we want our go and of that doesn't work a second ref" we're going to have a hung parliament.

Withdraw article 50 and be done with it, which means get a "centerist" in. The gammons will soon turn tail once they feel the full force of police brutality.

Corbyn is suggesting a broad coalition of members to support a VONC and then support for formation of a new Government whose role it will be to seek a delay to Brexit deadline day to allow a GE to take place.

Outside of this, even if the Tories lost a VONC they would still technically form the government until the end of a general election. During this time the status quo of government policy would continue which is to exit with or without a deal on 31 October.

Chukka umanna, obviously, is the primary candidate. Since he served both labour, it and the Lib Dem’s he has keen experience in all theee parties and hence should be PM. Wait what do you mean only 7% of people would vote for him???

nihiliberalism

Peter Fleming - The Worst Is Yet To Come posted:

How did we get to this dismal point? Two factors are significant.

First, since the 1980s the technocratic power structure has deliberately tried to extinguish all countervailing forces, including unions, democratic socialist parties and so-forth. So when the system entered into a catabolic decline, few alternative templates were available to coordinate popular resistance, except for a rather hollow, trumped up white nativism, of course.

Second, market neoliberalism has hijacked the very process of modernity. Unfortunately for “us moderns”, this now consists of the very air we breathe, unus mundus. As that atmosphere turns toxic, we do too. Capitalism’s existential crisis is ours as well. Ironically, it is precisely when the system is on the verge of collapse that it clings to us so obstinately, closing down spaces of hope that might have otherwise given us room to breathe.

The cultural mood is captured by black electronica and metal bands who’ve forged a popular genre with songs like “Planetary Burial”, “Pure loving Armageddon” and “Final Sickness”. The aesthetic satisfies both the premonition and desire for nothingness that has eclipsed Western reason. Advanced capitalism itself likes to flirt with a bit of darkness if there’s money to be made, something we might call nihiliberalism — where our ennui intersects with commodification, voter apathy and rash individualism.

"That must weigh heavily on your soul. Let me purge it for you."
Just had a Twitter argument with one of the hard-libs I find in my follows from working in games.

He responded to Corbyns letter saying it was too little too late. I asked what the alternative was and pointed out that Tories would need to rebel, which requires getting to this point, and he said Corbyn should have done this three years ago. We back and forth after I say that probably wouldn't work and also get pilloried as anti-democratic, but ultimately I tell him to put his rear end away and block him.

Wish it was the first time.
