At this point I don’t see what good banning them would do unless you confiscate/prohibit the transfer of them. There are millions of ARs, etc in the US. I’ve got one complete rifle and a second complete lower that I got for like $120 on an impulse buy, there are for sure nuts out there that own like 50.

Nostalgia4Butts posted:https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/15/politics/assault-weapons-ban-fox-news-poll-gun-control/index.html I'd love to see that same poll after the respondents were told exactly what an "assault weapon" is, what it consists of, and what it wouldn't ban. A Mini-14 or Mini-30 can do just as much damage as an AR15 yet it's not an assault weapon.

Ban semiautomatic weapons with detachable magazines, limit internal mags to 10 rounds. The Mini-14 has been used in multiple mass shootings, mostly in Canada.

Also throw in a ban on private sales but make every DMV or police station a place where you can do a NICS check and transfer for free. It's still gonna leave thousands of weapons out there for decades but you gotta start somewhere.

I was listening to 1A 2 or 3 weeks ago where they were asking questions of a liberal and an independent voter, both from the midwest, iirc. They then had the Director from some conservative think tank there in studio as a third guest to poo poo all over both of them any time the two voters criticized anything Trump/Republicans were doing. As if pitting a professional republican against two average people wasn't slanted enough, the host made no attempt to challenge or contradict the think tank lady at any point. I used to listen to NPR all the time, but this hasn't been an isolated incident and now I have no interest. It's thinly veiled right wing radio with a peeling, moldy veneer of liberalism left over from the past.

I've been anti gun control for a very long time (though in perspective, I'm a MA resident and have never thought our requirements unreasonable so in context thats "not more gun control then MA already has") but in the last year or two I've come around to thinking that this or a complete ban is needed. I'm still sitting on Class A paperwork I've never gotten around to filing because I'm not going to get guns without a safe that I can't afford right now. I'd love to have an AR15 or similar when that happens but I'm more than willing to give that up to keep them out of the hands of most the idiot fucks in this country. The idea that they had a legitimate use outside being a cool toy went out the window for me when it became clear that the "overthrow the tyrant" types really are more interested in installing one.

About half of my ccw class in nc was when you get close to the magical line where shooting someone is justified. The instructors favorite way around that wsd having a can of hirnet spray that shoots 20 feet at hand instead because if you hit then with that theyre just blinded and you dont have to worry about a shooting investigation

My CCW class in Virginia was taught by a 400-pounder wearing BDUs who spent most of it ranting about Obama and wishing he could use castle doctrine to justify killing "looters" The other instructors acted visibly pissed whenever they had to show students how to load the range's busted-rear end assortment of handguns.

How strict are they on safe requirements? Could you get away with a lockable Pelican case and replacing your closet door knob with a deadbolt? Do you need to show MA a receipt that you bought a safe or some poo poo? And Mini-14s/30s can be classified as assault weapons, depending on the qualifications. The old AWB, it was as easy as swapping the stock to anything with a pistol grip, a 30rd mag and a muzzle device. You could do two things to it, a third would've made it an assault weapon. I had a ban era mini-14 ranch. They're known for having poo poo barrels. Don't buy one from the 90s.

Lmao, its gross, but you can't blame the jail for that. They're not allowed to deny him his legal representation. That's just the rich taking advantage of rules that are in place for everyone's benefits.

Do you need to show MA a receipt that you bought a safe or some poo poo? MA only requires trigger locks unless something has changed in the last year, my statement about the safe is my personal requirement for having a weapon in my house not a legal one. I'm not going to buy one of I don't have the means to store it in a responsible manner. Semi-relatedly I'm sure I'm not the only one to think of it but I've always thought it might be interesting to make gun ownership a strict-liability issue. For those not familiar it's a legal doctrine originating from blasting. Instead of having to show negligence the activity is considered so inherently dangerous that doing it necessarily puts others at risk thus it's your responsibility to ensure no one is hurt/property damaged. Basically "if something happens you're liable because you created the dangerous situation so it's your affirmative responsibility to make sure nothing happens, no negligence needs to be shown". In the case of guns it would mean a gun owner would be responsible for whatever their gun does, even if it's stolen.

My rifle and revolver are locked in a long rear end pelican case (because a 26" barrel is like swinging a telephone pole), hidden behind poo poo. No kids to worry about here though, the animals don't care. I agree on your point about liability, and there's probably already insurance for that purpose, outside of USCCAs' murder insurance.
