I just mean the weapon ranks themselves. I tried searching the Tooltips and could only find info about how the weapon skills affected certification exams and which weapons can be wielded.

increasing your weapon ranks will give you progressively better abilities like "sword prowess 1", "sword prowess 2", etc. These give bonuses to hit, avoid, crit, and crit avoid, if they are equipped and you're using the corresponding weapon type. Just having a weapon rank high doesn't do anything by itself besides let you equip higher rank weapons.

I found this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csLkyG1QN04 and I finally got to listen to I guess Claude's last map theme? It's the only house I haven't played and man I need more of that in my life. I'm sure it'll get struck soon enough but the final map themes are all really good.

I'm a bit surprised IntSys haven't put the Awakening, Fates & SoV tracks up on spotyfy, itunes, google play, etc

After pokemon and kirby did, fire emblem seemed like the next logical step especially sinceh past several games have had people go from "fire emblem has a few neat songs" to "fire emblem has a great soundtrack"

I've got three currently - Mercurius, Parthia, and Hauteclere - but it's looking like I won't be able to scrounge up enough Mythril for Gradivus, assuming I can even find a monster who drops it.

I've mentioned it several times but one of my favorites is with Mercedes, who right off the bat flexes her powerful mom energy* and then the whole support chain turns into one long therapy session ending with him opening up and crying :unsmith:

*

i paired the two of them off together after initially planning on something else because of that A support. Mercedes is very clearly not looking for a man to give her "crest babies" (ew) and breaks through Sylvain's defenses enough to get him to be completely sincere enough even to openly cry in front of her, and Sylvain is a good guy when it comes to how he treats his friends that he'd probably be a very good partner for someone who doesn't get jealous.

I also paired Annette and Dedue together because of all of the "oh man i don't know how to cook please teach me, Scary Cooking Knight" supports that Dedue gets (seriously, Ashe, Anette, Sylvain and Flayn all attempt to learn to cook from Dedue), Annette's was easily the best, and the two seem like they would have the best "we have separate jobs and friends and lives but also co-exist perfectly with each other" relationship which was basically exactly what their ending was!

I think I'm kind of over the monastery aspect of the game. It's just become a tremendous chore. The monastery aspect shouldn't even be a thing post timeskip. I feel like the whole "Mission always happens at the end of the month" hurts the storytelling more than it helps it. I don't really have much I care to do at the monastery, so I find myself just blasting through some meals or just doing constant seminars. This last half of the game, story-wise, is more interesting, but pacing-wise, loving sucks rear end.

Most people will spend 30-40 hours in the monastery pre-timeskip (I think I was right around 40 hours at the timeskip). I'm loving sick of the monastery.

If nothing else, there needs to just be more poo poo to do at the monastery. It's too big and too underutilized.

I would just prefer that you don't have the monastery post-timeskip and it is just back to back missions/paralogues.

I lost to you once, monster. I shall not lose again! Die now, that our future can live!
I made the mistake of keeping up the explore-every-weekend gameplan for most of Part 2, when I had already reached Byleth's class requirements and had nothing really important to do except try to reach S+ Swords for Swordfaire (and I failed). A constant routine of gardening, cooking, maxing out motivation with meals and gifts, and then spamming Advanced Training got old fast.

Luckily, I think Seminars are actually better than exploring in Part 2. Byleth, your Lord, and Seteth can power six units through Authority ranks without any special effort, and that's extremely powerful. The total number of skill experience points you get from a Seminar is more than what you’d get from constantly re-motivating everyone in exploration and then teaching them normally.

FE17 will probably have an explorable base but will likely not grate on people through the game since I cant see the calendar and instruction system coming back, which are the two biggest reasons for all missions being at the end of the month.

I'm guessing it will be more akin to what they wanted to do with the Fates My Castle. Full 3D exploration but you go there between missions, you can walk around and see everyone or you can just go straight to the next mission. Except this time there'd be more of an actual environment and people would update based on the story.

Alternatively, I could see more mission-based camp environments. I thought it was really interesting how Edelgard's route had that abandoned fort for you to walk around for a single chapter pre-timeskip and doing more of that would be pretty neat!

At least they abstract it as a war room & training drills instead of a class room. It sure fits it a lot better.

At the very least they seem to reframe it as a strategy discussion around a big table instead of classes, and let you learn from students as well. It's a nice reframing.

I don't think just the presence of the monastery is the problem. I think it's the strict adherence to the monthly schedule that's the problem. If they went to the mission/paralogue structure but let you just use the monastery as a base in-between that'd be fine, and maybe refill your free time points every time you complete a chapter or paralogue instead of each week.

I think it does. Spending time with your units in an actual location and doing things together outside support conversation adds a lot to my attachment to my units, I think. The strict calendar schedule can go away, but I really like having a base. What makes it tedious in the second half is the strict schedule, not the base itself.

I forgot who but someone else in this thread suggested it'd be cool to have a Suikoden-style expanding base next time and yeah I'd be way into that.

Wisdom from a Fool
It should have defaulted to Exploration each week with all the various other things you could do being decisions you could make from the desk in your personal quarters, and then allowed you to execute exploration actions from there once you had done them at least once. It would out an extra loading screen, and cut down on the amount of time you spend aimlessly running around unless you're in the mood to look around the monastery for whatever reason.

Basically, let us play it as a menu-based game once that stuff wears out its welcome. Because it will do so inevitably no matter how much you might like it.

The explorable base should stay in future installments imo, there's a lot that can be added and I agree with the above point that it lets you get more attached to your units. a neat thing like Bernadetta always staying in her room and never leaving until she goes to place flowers at Jeralt's grave doesn't hit like it would if it was just a base menu

there were many moments post-timeskip where i liked hearing units' perspectives on the events but i'd also like a way to have that without the monastery feeling as boring as it did then

like pre-timeskip, you sometimes had the house leaders having you do some poo poo involved with the plot (like with the assassination plot on rhea), but it feels superfluous in a lot of ways after

Yeah explorable base is awesome, just need more variety in what takes up activity points. Honestly Seminars should be through explore and maybe take up like 5 points or something arbitrarily large.
